8:14 am
out, the sparks started flying. fox news chief white house correspondent ed henry has more on the debate that gun aired on abc news last night. >> reporter: unlike the last republican debate in iowa, there was no drama over who would show up but rather who would bring it. >> eminent domain is an absolute necessary for a country. without it you wouldn't have roads, you wouldn't have hospitals you wouldn't have anything. you wouldn't have schools. you wouldn't have bridges. you need emment domain. >> the difference for public purpose as donald said road and structure, pipelines and all that, that's for public purchase. what donald trump did is used eminent domain tried to take the property of an elderly woman on the strip in atlantic city. that is not public property. that is down right wrong. [applause] >> reporter: during a campaign season that's often resembled a reality tv show.
8:15 am
>> i'm proud of my. >> experience of senate and if politics and the presidency becomes electing the people who have been in congress or the senate the longest we should all years. he's passed 1,000 bills and i don't think any of us think joe biden to. >> marco you shouldn't compare joe biden. you have not been involved in a conventiontial decision where you had to be held accountable. you just simply haven't. and the fact is -- [applause] the fact is when you talk about hezbollah sanctions act as you lifted -- you weren't even there to vote for it. that's not leadership that's truancy. >> under the definition of torture, no, it's not. under the law, torture is pain that is equivalent to losing -- losing organs and systems so under the definition of torture, it is not. it is enhanced interrogation, it
8:16 am
does not meet the generally recognized definition of torture. >> reporter: so now the final republican debate before the new hampshire primary is finished. with 2 days to go. it's back to some old-fashioned door knocking to get the vote out. in portsmouth, ed henry, fox news. >> tom: all right. so now you saw what happened. let's talk about what it all means. political analyst and radio host scar jackson joins us more to talk about it. so i guess the big headline going in was everybody was talking about donald trump back. >> guest: sure. >> tom: he skipped out on the last one. was the same old donald. he had been quiet for the last couple of weeks. >> guest: i got to tell you, donald trump -- i don't think he had a bad night. i don't think he had a great night. and the same goes for ted cruz. i don't think he had a bad night but i don't think he had a graded night -- great night. i think the story the governors finally stepped up to the plate and got a chance to speak they will all did really well. i think it was the best performance for every single one of them, whether it's christie, jeb bush had his best performance in my opinion and so
8:17 am
rubio took -- rubio took shots and the shots started from chris christie and i really think that set the tone for the governors to get going. >> tom: let's take those because those are some of the headlines that the governors all seem to do very well. >> guest: right. >> tom: let's talk, specifically, jeb bush our former governor here and a lot of people are interested what's going to happen with him. >> guest: sure. >> tom: how do you think he comes out of this. how do you think coming out of new hampshire and the polling jeb bush is going to fare? >> guest: i don't think so, just because he did great last night. the problem is all three of the governors did great. the governors in new hampshire have 3 people to choose from and i think that's going to be difficult for them to choose from, quite frankly. kasich has great organization there. i understand bush has great organization but not perhaps as well as kasich so we'll have to see kasich. due to chris christie that enabled all of them to do good in my opinion. >> tom: do you think jeb bush makes it to south carolina. >> guest: i think he does. he has the money to do.
8:18 am
he possibly -- if he's -- as long as he's in the top 5 i think he'll stay in. >> tom: another of the subjects coming around the headlines today a lot of people saying that everyone kind of took shots at marco rubio last night. you see it a little bit differently, though? >> guest: yeah, i didn't see that. i saw that chris christie -- i don't think they're giving chris christie his due and i'm not a chris christie fan but i got to tell you, last night he did an excellent job of setting the tone and framing marco rubio in such a way where every word marco rubio left you doubting. it left marco rubio just these robotic statements that will come out and then marco rubio followed up with 4 statements manner if you will. so i think chris christie set the tone. the other governors really didn't have to go after rubio once chris christie did. >> tom: all right. of time. who comes out of this the best? >> guest: i got to tell you, no one person. watch the governors. we got to see what happens between the 3 governors.
8:19 am
>> guest: all right. >> tom: let's talk 8:20 now about the chill in the air. it is back, brooks. >> meteorologist: good morning, and in gas station, carl. temperatures are cold and cloudy outside we have a few sprinkles. volusia county into flagler county right on the coast predominantly u.s. 1, 95 over towards the coast. it's getting chilly outside. we had the nor'easter that formed just off the florida coast. we still have gale warnings is for -- offshore. chilly and windy sunny on tap. not only reinforcing shot of arctic air today. we have two more shots of arctic air outside. pretty impressive. outside right now cloudy skies you can see the camera shaking. this is our visit orlando towercam on the hyatt regency orlando. looking at downtown. 47 degrees. west-northwest winds now at 16 miles in orlando.
8:20 am
be the big stories today because we will see sustained winds. 20 miles an hour gusting at times over 30 miles an hour. it's already winds at 21 miles an hour in brevard county so you take the temperatures, everybody in the 40s and you factor in the wind. what does it feel like? it feels like most people are in the 30s this morning. 37 seminole county. 38 in lake county. 35 in alachua county and look at brevard county. it feels like 39 degrees outside. so we're tapping into some very cold air to the north, all thanks to the nor'easter that continues just to strengthen off the south of north carolina coastline. note the clearing line. we will see clear skies this is go through the mid-to-late morning to midday hours and that's good news but it's going to stay windy today with gusty winds coming out of the nomination. another re-enforcing shot of cold air comes late tomorrow. tomorrow is going to be the milder day of the next 4 or 5 and then tuesday, wednesday and thursday -- all 3 days we stay
8:21 am

8:24 am
the hands of fans but this year they noticed a big gap of preorders. most fans are trying to get their hands on the broncos memorabilia coin. >> for the reasons, you know, denver is a much older team so they have a national fan base, you know, throughout the united states. plugs, i would assume, you know, like peyton manning a lot of people are saying this might be his last game. but we also feel like if carolina wins the super bowl, you know, once that happens i think they'll be in, you know, a frenzy in carolina. >> tom: hyland mint says the gap is not a small one. fans prefer the broncos coin 10-1. interesting. 8:27. still to come. two people are dead, several others injured after shots inside a local nightclub in orlando. we are live on the scene with the latest on the investigation. stay with us.

has been spared from oblivion. "fox 35" ryan elijah talked about it with the "orlando sentinel". >> kevin spear with the "orlando sentinel" joining us to talk more about this. kevin, good to see you. >> guest: likewise, how are you. >> i'm doing good. let's talk where the home, specifically, is at. >> guest: you know, in the thorton park area by dexter's in that area, a little bit east of lake eola. are you familiar with that. >> yes, and i think that'll give people really familiar. a really cool story. a century old house it's in historic districts. tell us how it wound up nearly getting demolished but not quite. >> guest: you know, yeah, this thing is thought to be 99 years old and it goes back to a storied somewhat famous mayor back in early 1900s and over the years lots of families but more recently it had fallen into disrepair. i mean, it's just crumbling, melting into the ground and 2014, a couple of years ago there were a pair of suspicious
8:32 am
that resulted in it being boarded up and it looks like the end of this historic home. now, the city does have rules that protect historic homes but it also has loopholes that if the place is such a mess, you can tear it down and start over. >> with all that said and with age and obviously history not on its side, what was it that saved this house? >> guest: you know, there's -- it's a cool story actually. you know, with old homes like this there might be a lot of drama to save the thing, you know, snatch it back from oblivion but in this case a guy who grew up not far away and now owns a heating and air conditioning company in the area was eating lunch at dexter's looked across the street and said, hmmm, that place might have some potential. he bought it. and he brought in contractors that he knows and he's working at it, no, no fuss, no muss, no drama. it's going to come back to life. >> i'm sure the people in the area love that as well. what about his plan for it.
8:33 am
beyond restoring it that he's going to use it for? >> guest: so are you going to flip this thing and make a pile of money. and his response was, no way. he's investing way too much in it. the economics of flipping it are lost and part of that story is, i saw -- he decided to put in this foundation that is way above and beyond in cost and need, a foundation that's comprised of concrete walls underneath this thing. again, way more cost than he needed to do and that really does kind of take away the potential for flipping it. he says his goal, having grown up here -- he's 47, is to protect this historic home and be able to drive by and brag about it actually and say, we did that house. >> i think a lot of people would love that and i sense a lot of people look drive-by and look at it as well. you can, of course, look at this at the "orlando sentinel." kevin, i appreciate all the insight today. >> guest: absolutely. >> tom: 21 minutes before 9:00.

orlando. near death experiences may may think. "good day" john brown talked with an author who investigated more than 1,000 cases and what he says he found may surprise you. >> an estimated 13 million americans have experienced what they call a near death experience and that's since 1992. and according to a new gallup, 774 of these happened each and every day. author john burke has a new book called "imagine heaven requested where he studied survivors brought back from near death and he joins us this morning on "good day orlando" to talk more about it. so we'll start with this question, john, what are some of the more incredible stories you've heard. do you believe all of these? >> guest: well, i wasn't sure and i've now, studied about 1,000 of them and i write in "imagine heaven" about skeptical doctors in the after life in chapter 2 how many cardiologists and oncologists who were skeptical but became convinced
8:38 am
they don't feel dead. they actually feel like they become more alive than they've ever been before and many times they say they were still in the room watching what was going on. so they describe their resuscitation. and these have now been written up in the journal of medical association, the lancet europe's most prestigious journal. about 900 scarily articles. in the lancet they talk about the man who came into the e.r. he was unconscious and he had a massive heart attack and they took his denture, shocked him his heart started beating. he never came to in the e.r. and they moved him out into another room where he stayed for a week, a week later when he comes to, he's able to describe everything that happened in the e.r. including where they could find his lost dentures and which nurse had put of them in the lower drawer of the crash cart and there have been so many stories like that, that it's convinced many skeptical doctors

"fox 35" jackie orozco is there. >> reporter: standby. good morning, tom, orlando police are calling this an extensive and complicated investigation. they said now there's a total of
9:22 am
shot inside inside the glitz ultra club lounge. it was around 1:00 this morning, again the details of what sparked that shooting is unclear. and orlando police are saying that they have very good security here at the nightclub. they had actually 3 extra offduty officers in full orlando police uniforms. they do patdowns and things like that. so she wouldn't give us the public information officer details. if they do really good patdowns and security, how did that one gunman or several gunmen -- they didn't want to give us details how many suspects they are looking for. and it seemed like they were focused on the right side of the nightclub, and that's when the shooting happened. and again, she was saying most of these victims were innocent bystanders. 1 person died here at the club from gunshot wounds. the other person died at ormc and 8 right now are being treated at ormc. one is in critical condition.
9:23 am
names and she did say there is surveillance video inside that caught everything that happened. begun, they said they have lots of security officers here, private and opd so it was a lot of going on here and we did ask her if there has been extra incidents here, um, here at the club. that's why they had the extra security measuress and she would not release information we're staying on top -- 12 total victims and two of them were killed here by that shooting. for now reporting live here in orlando, jackie orozco, "fox 35 news". >> now, it was just yesterday morning where he told you about another mass shooting at a central florida nightclub. this one in tampa. one dead, 7 hurt there.

[running water] s [running water] >> wow! i love that. because how many of us do that and we don't think twice about it. >> guest: exactly. this is interesting because colgate is not promoting a product. they're using it -- they're essentially using $45 million spot to do a psa. >> but don't you look favorably upon colgate for trying to help the environment, help people in need. >> guest: absolutely, absolutely. >> it leaves you with that good feeling. i should use colgate look how nice they're being and trying to

this isn't a new ad for them they ran it in 2014 in brazil and columbia and it got great response. during the super bowl. >> guest: exactly. >> next one maybe an kind of out of world ad let's take a look at this one. >> guest: in this white and gold dress that caused the civil war this is scott baio but most amazing of all are the avocados in mexico so they're always in mexico so you can enjoy them all year. anyone want to see scott baio it's included in the price of admission. no? >> right. >> guest: and this kind of misses the mark in that -- everyone loves, you know, the singing sheeps who doesn't. >> sheeps. >> guest: you walk away who is this for? >> because it feels like -- i think we're so accustomed to the chevy and the ford ads and kind of being out on the farm and that kind of thing but that actually was for honda. the honda ridge line. wow, interesting maybe the fact -- maybe they're hoping if everybody is talking about it. >> guest: perhaps. >> the buzz -- that doesn't always work. >> guest: not all the time. there's nothing outrageous about the ad. there have been plenty of animals in super bowls before. [laughter] >> but it is interesting -- what is that phenomenon we watch a commercial and you love the commercial but can't remember what it's for? >> guest: well, that's unfortunate because the whole goal of super bowl advertising is brand awareness. >> right. >> guest: and so if your ad is not who you are, then at the end of the day, you missed your mark. >> and you spent a lot of money. >> guest: a lot of money. >> a lot of money. really fascinating. all right.
