spread some sweetness with dunkin' donuts' cookie dough and brownie batter donuts. heart-shaped happiness too sweet not to share. america runs on dunkin'. . 9:00 here on your monday. good day, orlando. i'm john brown. >> it's a happy monday, i guess, right? sort of, maybe a little bit? here's things coming up in the 9:00 hour, talking live with dr. oz this morning, the truth about pizza, diets, and those negative calories. >> plus, we're breaking down some of the most talked about superbowl ads from thisiary. our expert is here to tell us what worked and which ads did not. >> also this morning, the trend is grey. we're going to have a look at why more young men are going grey on purpose. i don't think anderson cooper went grey on purpose, though.
9:02 am
good morning to you, john. hi, amy. we've parked our beautiful live truck on 1792 in winter park at the winter park terrace to tell you about something very special today and today only. how would you like to stop here with all you can eat yogurt and free toppings? i can't believe they're doing it, but they are. only that yogurtland. we'll talk to them about it on the 9:00 hour of "good day orlando." >> let's talk about what's happening out right now. it is a chilly start to the work week, jayme king. >> yeah, and high today, maybe mid 60. the rest of the week, though, we are way down. and by saturday, closer to normal, meaning low 70s. we'll see what happens. we've got your live local temperatures now. clearly, now, it's still pretty chilly out there. i'm still showing 36 out at de land. 50 at titusville, 46 at gainesville.
9:03 am
already aligning with atlanta, bringing with it rainfall to that particular region of georgia. it looks like we'll get ours as clouds increase big time through the course of the day. as we go sailing through the afternoon, you know it's not a bad day or cool, just very, very windy at times and an evening rain chance set up. i think we're going strong with those chances, by around 8:00ish for 30 or 40 % of us. we've outlined that and again, peeking chances for rainfall today and tomorrow morning, very early in the morning. that's 20 %, just kind of blustery ask cool for the rest of the week and we'll talk more about that in the full forecast in about ten minutes. new details this morning on a shooting that critically injured a 13 -year-old boy yesterday. >> it was an accident, but they have someone behind bars this morning. the shooting happened at a home near cimarron, sunday afternoon, yesterday afternoon. dana is live at the orange county jail with more on that arrest. >> good morning.
9:04 am
home at the time of theting, but he's a convicted felony and that makes it illegal for him to have a gun. and that is why he's booked into the orange county jail this morning. >> the man who lived in the home in the 4700 block of spotswood drive has been identified as 35 -year-old walter morainy. orange county sheriff's office investigators say it was his gun that critically wounded a 13 -year-old boy sunday afternoon. a neighbor told us, he heard the gunshots. >> i think it's pretty scary. i got a 6 -year-old son and at the time he was in the back yard playing and i heard shots. >> investigators say the boy was in the home visiting rel tfbsz. overnight, fox 35 learned he was in the house with 218 -year-olds when one of those older kids found the gun in a bedroom and started playing with it. the gun went off. >> the kid got shot in the neck. apparently they were just playing with guns. >> it was sad news for people who know the family.
9:05 am
in my prayers for tonight. hopefully everything is okay. >> and that 13 -year-old boy was taken to arnold palmer hospital. our last update was that he was in critical condition. no word on whether or not those 18 -year-olds will face any charges. deputies say their investigation is ongoing. reporting live this morning at the orange county jail, i'm dana jay, fox 35 news. also, a news alert right now. a cruise ship is headed to the port of cape canaveral, getting slammed into the atlantic. >> royal caribbean's anthem of the seas was tossed around pretty hard overnight, right off the coast of the carolinas. i want to show you where that ship is this morning. they are this yellow dot. so you can see, they're not too far away from florida right now. they're expected to arrive at port canaveral just after noon today. royal caribbean sent us a statement which reads in part, quote, at this time, there have thought been any serious injuries reported.
9:06 am
damage to the public areas and guestrooms which in no way affect the seaworthiness of the ship, end quote. here are some tweets from passengers on board that ship. greg tweeted that there's limited food right now. he posted video and pictures. and you can see here, the ceiling collapsed in one area of that ship. here, you can see tables and chairs overturned and huge waves just outside that ship. now, there are reports that the waves reached as high as 30 feet. the anthem of the seas left new jersey on saturday and it was caught up in category 2 hurricane force winds. so very strong. i want to bring in meteorologist jayme king right now. no, wow, it's josh. my, you don't look like jayme king. anyway, let's take a look at the map here that josh has pulled up on his computer. you can see the kind of pinkish and purple and purple areas are where storm warnings are in
9:07 am
that is where the hurricane force winds took place. so the ship was probably somewhere in that area last night. but as we said, it's headed to fort canaveral this morning, expected to dock just after noon today. we're going to talk with passengers after they get off board that ship, and i'm sure a lot of them probably aren't feeling very good right now after being tossed around all night long. back to you guys. >> and you get off with the sea legs, they're going to be sick for a while. >> new this morning, we have vide o from the scene o@ f a deadly double shooting that we brought you with breaking news last night. orlando police were checking the area after receiving reports of gunshots. officers found the bodies of two men and both appear to have been shot to death. neither man has been identified yet. police also do not have any suspects or witnesses to the shooting. >> you decide skoungs, the polls show that republican donald trump and democrat bernie sanders continue to have pretty
9:08 am
>> but there's been an interesting turn of events on the gop side of things. ryan is here with new numbers for us. >> very interesting turn. this poll is of new hampshire voters, john kasich is second for the first time. it really doesn't completely reflect that. but let's look at the numbers. kasich, 14 % support. still 17 points behind donald trump who has dominateed to this point. marco rubio, jeb bush, also strong. iowa winner ted cruz not getting a real push into new hampshire. he's sitting at 12 % right there, good enough for 5th place. >> meanwhile, trump will hold a town hall meeting today and bush mocked trump because of that, tweeting the billionaire, my 90 -year-old mother made it out to the campaign. the message even included a picture of bush' mother barbara shaking hands with a little girl at a campaign stop. look at this. well, trump returned fire yesterday.
9:09 am
brings out his mother because he needed. he needed help. mommy, please come, walk in the snow, mom. and i like his mother, but i don't like that stuff. >> later this week, trump's going to travel to tampa to hold a rally that's sold out now on the university of south florida. >> hillary looking to help her very narrow win in iowa. republicans have unsuccessfully tried to derail her campaign by focusing on her e-mails. >> they had a coronary last week. it was a tough week for them. because their last stand was to try to make something out of the achillis. and the more they published, the better she did. >> this is the most interesting thing from this poll. it found just 49 % of voters in new hampshire are set on their
9:10 am
can be surveyed by tomorrow. it's just why you just never know once they go to the polls. >> that's so true. bill clinton didn't sound good to me there. it sounded like, yes or no, was he not feeling well or --. >> a lot of people have said that, he doesn't feel the same. peyton manning could be ending his hall of fame --. as you can see, thousands of happy fans pouring into downtown denver. they celebrated the team's third superbowl title. that forced the police to close off several roads, but they kept it contained. the celebrations are mostly peaceful. i don't know about you. i've seen no images of burning cars, burning houses. so good job, denver. might have been burning other things. manning spoke briefly after the game about his future plans. >> it's been an emotional week,
9:11 am
just beginning. i look forward to celebrating with my friend and family. >> all right. now, his mom thinks that he should retire after last night's win. he became the first quarterback to have win a superbowl with two different teams. manning won his first with the colts back in 2007. so good for him. also trending this morning, it's this guy, cam newton. real bad mood after the loss. he spoke for reporters for about two minutes, that's all. very short answers. didn't even look at some of them when they asked the questions and then, well, he did this. >> i think you're disappointed not just for yourself but your teammates. i didn't tell gotta be real tough. >> but he did have nice pants before the game. >> it's a hard to hear what he
9:12 am
>> the guy said you're a band of brothers and now -- it wasn't even a question. he was sacked several times, lost two fumbles deep in his own territory. that lead to two broncos touchdowns. that's the one thing i think is rubbing people the long way today. okay. yeah, you lost the game but you're in the superbowl. you gotta show some class. that's your legacy right there. >> dr. oz has a big week ahead of him. >> and he's going to talk to us live about the truth behind pizza and some other diet trends that could actually be dangerous for you. it's all coming up next. plus, david martin. amy, it is national frozen yogurt day. here's what i want you to do. leave your wallet at home and drive on down to the yogurtland in winter park to get free frozen yogurt, all you can eat, including how many toppings?
9:13 am

ball diet to the truth about pizza. he's joining us live this morning to talk a little about that. hey, dr. oz, happy monday. how are you? >> doing great. i watched the superbowl with my grandson who didn't understand halftime, but he's only a few months old so we'll catch up. >> were you good about your snacks yesterday? >> i had chilli and brown rice and my daughter daphne, she made this wonderful pastrami cheese sandwich, which is better than any pizza i would have had. so i was good and bad. >> that's all right. you're allowed to indulge every now and then. otherwise, it's no fun, right? okay. so let's talk about these interesting diets. the first one, the cotton ball diet, what is that? >> i think it's an eating disorder, frankly. you take cotton balls, dip them in something yummy, and swallow it.
9:17 am
other like bricks and become beesors. they can block your intestinal flow. i've done surgery to open up people's stomachs to remove these blobs that sometimes accumulate accumulate. so not smart. >> it sound like there's a lot of psychological step going on with that one. but the other diet can be the same thing, as far as being more psychological. >> yeah, i was worried about it, but i had a doctor come on who did a pretty good job defending why he stuck a tube and dripped continuously a high protein fat mixture into people's stomachs allows them to feel pretty comfortable on 800 calories a day. he only does it for 2 -weeks. i don't like it in general, because i don't think if you're not eating foot you're going to learn how to eat food the right way. so you'll rebound back when you
9:18 am
but me defended it better than i thought he would. i'm intrigued. >> okay. let's talk pizza. big show tomorrow on zza. truth tube series. we've been doing a lot of food investigations and i've got mark investigating pizzas. the old fashioned italian pizza that we had was about 250 calories. nowadays, our pizzas are about 800 calories a slice. what changes? first off, the cheese is different. you want to get true mozzarella cheese, white sheez, even when it's cooked, there should thought be a lot of grease on the pizza. if you've got a lot of cheese, that means the cheese was processed stuff. second, real tomato sauce. and the dough should have lots of air because it should be allowed to rise overnight before they make the base of the pizza and you can actually order pizzas from all the major vendors now that allows you to get less charles, still has all the taste and you'll lose weight at the same time. >> that's fascinating. i can't wait for that.
9:19 am
people think they can eat this stuff and they'll lose weight. what is that, exactly? >> they're making it affect foods. i only bring that up because you don't lose weight as you're eating but you can consume so many calories while you're eating these foods, typically high fiber vegetables and some fruits that allow your body to burn up a lot of calories while you're digesting what you just ate so you get a new discount. gena 80500 calories but burned 100 before she actually took the rest into her body. if you were to burn 20 % of the calories you ate, you'd lose a lot of weight and that's the promise of these negative calorie effect foods. that's today's topic. >> great show, as always, dr. oz. look forward to seeing you. come visit us again in orlando soon. we miss you. >> i will, amy. stay well >> let's check in with jayme now.
9:20 am
through the 40s and even inslow grey 50s for us after an especially cold morning. chill. we'll leave it add that with interior. even a few pictures i've received out of palm bay, southern brevard, very close to the sea shore, feeling the effect of this latest cold surge. another front on the way back to around atlanta. you can see north of that poicht, a lot of chill, we're gonna get reinforcements of cool air here, slowly but surely, gradual baby steps all the way to wednesday as a series of disturbances and associated fronts and cool surge of air, back behind each and every one continues streaming in. eventually. next front on the way and this means rain chance eventually later this evening will come up just a little bit to about 30 to 40 % type coverage, between 7 and 8:00, get things going, that will carry over to about midnight or so. and from that point on, we see chances diminish again.
9:21 am
very windy. not only today but also through the overnight. that adds to the wind chill effect. you also hear us call it the feels like temperature. there's the rainfall. check the timestamp, again, between the hours of 8 and 1:00 a.m. 8:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. will be the rain window of opportunity opening big and broad. but after that, it looks like tomorrow, a prolonged period of very, very gusty west and eventually northwest winds and a lot of cloud cover streaming through. with highs in the 50s and some clouds and a bunch of wind on top, it's going to be a chiller tomorrow for for us. of course by our florida standards and it stays that way with a cold cap of hyper. things warm up by friday into next saturday and the coming weekend, next weekend, as the front closes in, spin winds out of the west, southwest at that time. should allow for temperatures to move back up closer to 70 by friday and into saturday. after that, another front comes through and knocks us back again.
9:22 am
>> the general assessment will be with us through the afternoon. about 65 or so. same in lake county. groveland on the south end of the county there in claremont and then our last stop will be volusia county, the shore n. mid-60s for us. the general agreement here that clouds increase. we're staying dry until this evening. that's when the shower chances begin to come up. 64 over north central florida and very much the same, similar both here with 60s all the way down towards indian river county into our treasure coast. the next seven days offering a high near 60 by wednesday. well below normal, maybe closer to 70 by saturday. we'll keep tans on it and give you the latest for your forecast for the remainder of the week. >> just because it's cold outside this morning doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to enjoy frozen yogurt today. >> maybe get the hot fudge on top, whatever it might be. david martin shows us how we can
9:23 am
>> 16 flavors, john. more than 50 toppings, amy. and here's the best part. you don't pay a dime for it. you come here for three hours to yogurt land in winter park and eat all you want. we're celebrating national frozen yogurt day. listen very carefully. this is not all day. there's a time window, a range of hours, if you will.
9:24 am
>> i'm like a boxer in a ring. you don't expect much... and then, wham! i hit 'em with huge creamy goodness! alright round two! rich, creamy, 100% natural cheese. mini babybel.
9:25 am
. welcome back to "good day orlando" at 9:00. >> it may be chilly outside, but
9:26 am
from going out and getting free fro-i don't today. >> one shop is offering the frozen treat in honor of national frozen yogurt day. david martin is live with all the details on this. and i assume toppings are included, right, david? >> yes, i can officially confirm, toppings are included. you can load up your jug with as much marshmallow as you want. now, my friends here they've been with us all morning. you guys don't have any clue how to dispense this properly, do you? but gm enrique does. show us the proper way, the art, if you will, of dispensing. >> all right. i just don't pull that quick and i like to go around the entire cup, to make it look nice. >> it's all in the wrist. >> that's right. all in the wrist. >> so they say. all right. let's go. very nice. and you top it off with a little curly cue.
9:27 am
come on up and show us what one of your favorite concoctions is. we've got two of them. let's start with christopher, the marketing manager here. what have you got? >> this is a plain tart with fresh fruit. all our fruit is cut fresh every day, so this has kiwi and strawberry on top of a plain tart. that's the staple of frozen yogurt, the plain tart. >> i did a sorbay swirl. it's strawberry lemonade with pineapple mix. and then i added some sour gummy bears. or, no, sour gummy warms, gummy bears and we've got mango popping boba and strawberry popping boba. >> now, janine, you're holding a tray of fruit and that's representing what? >> that's fresh fruit. our fruit is fresh every day, cut every day fresh.
9:28 am
the hook here. you're giving away free yogurt for three hours today. >> it's to thank our customers, the people that come and visit us every day, to keep our doors open and keep us going and for people who have never been here to come out and try us for free. >> you want to get ohm customers tonight in line for three hours? >> 1,000. 1,000 tonight. >> that the a record, then? >> we want to break that record tonight. >> do you know what the record is for the country? >> it's over 2000, i believe. so if we can get 2000, i'd love it. >> we can do it. between 4 and 7:00 p.m. tonight only at yogurtland on 1792 here in winter park, right across from the winter park village. we're in winter park, not winter garden. don't go to winter garden. gentlemen, thank you very much back there and our supports and john and amy, we'll see you at 4:00 p.m. to get sfree yogurt.
9:29 am
have your lunch at chipotle, you
9:30 am
>> we're going to have the stre-e-e-e-eam stream, stream, stre-eam stre-e-e-e-eam stream, stream, stream when i want you in my arms when i want you and all your charms whenever i want you
9:31 am
. it's just about 9:30 on your monday. good day, orlando. i'm john brown. >> so glad you're with us this morning. we want to get you caught up on some of the headlines right now. a 13 -year-old is accidentally shot is in the neck and the man who owned that gun is now behind bars. that the child was visiting 218 -year-old rematives yesterday at a home on spotswood drive in orlando. one of them found the gun and it went off, hitting the boy in the neck. deputies say the gun belonged to a convicted felony named walter moraine. he was not at home at the time, but he's since been arrested. the boy is in critical condition this morning. >> also, happening today, a plan to give $75 million to ucf for its downtown campus is going to go before the city council in orlando. the university is looking to build that 165,000 square foot building in the fall of 2018 as
9:32 am
there in downtown. the 75 million would come from the city of orlando. final agreements will be discussed at the city council meeting this afternoon. >> time now for your morning business headlines. joining us is lauren semonetti. good morning, darling. how are you? >> hi, amy. wonderful. how are you? >> good. let's start with the markets. >> it's ugly. three minutes in, dow's down 193 points and nasdaq's the big story today. on a percentage term right now, the nasdaq is selling off by 1.8 % on top of a three and a quarter% dive on friday. big names, amazon, facebook, selling off to the tune of 4 % so pretty ugly this monday morning. >> wow. what is going on? >> it's interesting. you have the chinese markets closed, many asian markets closed for chinese new year. so that's not a variable this morning. you have oil prices, they did go
9:33 am
now they're above, but they are lower. you have concerns of the european banks and this over hang of the budget concern. maybe she's going to say the fed will continue to hike rates. we don't know. but in this type of economy, nobody wants higher interest rates. >> that's for sure. let's talk chipotle. this is a big deal. the company is really trying to with the move today. absolutely. they're having all of their workers show up for safety if you will. what they're doing in order to have the workers ready is they're closing every single restaurant across the nation from 11:00 to 3:00. in those four hours, they're going to go over food safety measures. how they're going to move past this ecoaly, nur virus scare going forward, how to best prepare the food, et cetera, hoping to put this saga behind them and get customers back in their restaurants again. i think the overlying picture here is this. if the cdc says the outbreak for e. coli is over at chipotle but they don't know the cause of the
9:34 am
comfortable going there? >> yeah, that's a problem. that's still a problem. all right. well, they got a good pr team and this move is a good one. we'll see what happens, that's for sure. >> all right, semonetti, good stuff. thank you, darling. have a good rest of the day. and you can catch lauren every day. she's on fox business, starts at five in the morning. not sure where to go, go to foxbusiness.com/channelfinder. 9:35, jayme king. we're still in the 40s right now. it's chilly. >> yeah, still going strong out there. this cold snap, it looks like again, as maim pointed out, 40s and low end 50s now, starting to pepper in. a cool day today, somewhere around the mid-60s. around the nation, our next front is aligning with atlanta, georgia and we'll come down to the southern latitude by the evening time and clear us out in the overnight hours. how clear is the question? clouds will be around for a good duration of the late night. we'll see showers and if the clouds stick and stay for
9:35 am
upper 50s and a big, big, big vocal wind on top, it's going to be a chiller tomorrow. 31 st. louis, minneapolis, 11. and widespread 40s, 50s, 30s, a little mix of everything out. west of the rockies at this time. clouds increase first. cold front drops in from north to south. that's when the rain chances go up, 30, 40 % type coverage. after the drive home. the vast majority and consensus of our computer models, the computer forecast simulators that show us what may or may not play out, suggesting it'll be after dark once the rain moves in. join us tonight at 5:00. we'll refine the forecast, live radar imagery and you can also download the weather app totally free for iphone or android twices. you can track it in the palm of your hand. next of the day, showing us 50s and 60s for highs. we'll talk more about that coming up on the full weather in just a bit.
9:36 am
last night. they beat the carolina panthers to take superbowl 50, but for a lot of others, it's just the commercials to talk about. joining me once again, larry meter, founder and chief strategic officer for vogue. overall, the ads this year, doesn't seem to have the buzz of previous years. do you agree or disagree? >> i agree. they were kind of middle of the road. there's not a really huge stand out. in fact, i had to check the polls, the meters several times to see who came out on top. >> it's funny you point that out because u.s.a. today had the comedian with the car. kevin hart, but they had released that ad a week ago. >> sure. >> does that ruin it when you've already seen some of these ads before superbowl night? >> i udto not like that at all. i udto say, i think they should wait and premier the ads on the superbowl themselves, but, you know, i'm starting to catch on. i'm starting to become a follower with that.
9:37 am
enjoy them, but the bottom line for them is it has to sell product. so if it makes more sense for them to release it, they gutta do what's in their best interest. >> $5 million, upwards of six in some time slot. >> all right. let's talk good, bad, ugly, whatever you want to call? >> told you somebody should have waited in the car. this is a black car, three minutes away. >> okay. >> this commercial went on and on and on. i liked it, but it's a huge story. >> it is. it reminded me, these type of ads, if you remember way back, the old foaljures ads how the couple got together, this ongoing thing. and the thing is, with this ad, it can go on forever and i think the thing is really unique. it talks about the selling proposition of the preis. >> it goes on and on. >> which do you think is the
9:38 am
they were doing the poll. next up, mic ultra. i don't remember this one. let's take a look and see what you think. i must have stepped out to the bathroom. what is the point of this one? >> well, actually, this is favorite spots. and the thing is, i think in advertising, we look for a hook, any kind of thing that you can remember. and i think what milk lobe ultrasaid is we're gonna align ourselves with that noise of a work. >> every time you think -- every time you hear it, you think about it. >> southwest airlines was successful with that ding noise. >> and then finally one more here, battle of men versus women
9:39 am
hit it. >> i can't watch this enough. amy says it's awful. >> it's awful. >> i think it's great. we did a rather unscientific poll in the studio. all the guys say yes. ladies all said no. so your thoughts on this thing. >> i'm the guy. i love it. i love it. again, it's what you're looking for in an ad is something that's memorable. and you know, monkey is gonna be in your head for quite sometime. >> right. and what's good about this ad, you've told us numerous times, is it has to relate to the okay. >> there's three great things for guys and in this ring, there's three great things that guys love, right? >> sure. put them all together and it works great. >> overall, bottom line. >> bottom line, i don't think that there was a real, real big stand out. i mean, the preis ad did score the highest.
9:40 am
>> but it got played early. >> i want to hear again. it used to be what was bud light or budweiser going to do. i wasn't that impressed with the bud light party. it kind of repulsed me, didn't make me want beer. did they win this year, do anything this year? >> they're not ranked very high. automotive really dominated this year. storm ended really well with the outy spot and the kia spot so they did pretty well. >> by the way, i want that outy. that thing is nice. all right, always great to see you, man. >> amy, if you're thinking about a christmas gift for this year, for men. >> i'll get you a picture of one out of a magazine. still ahead, we'll talk to the duo who was just named one couples. and coming up, why they're grey. don't you have to do the beard,
9:41 am
it's (phone ringing) you can't deal with something, by ignoring it. but that's how some presidential candidates seem to be dealing
9:42 am
and pay into it. so our next president needs a real plan to keep it strong. (elephant noise) (donkey noise) hey candidates, answer the call already. (scal): good day, m'lady! i am sir-can-a-lot, here to save you from another breakfast bore. wake up those eggs with glorious spam! see what spam can! do... at
9:43 am
. happy birthday if it's your birthday today. >> i'm shocked. if you had asked me, i would have guessed in the 60s. >> that's all right. looking good. and bethany, who we love. we've had her as a guest here. she's a girl who went surfing in hawaii and had her arm bitten off. she's now married, has a peabody, bip starring in movies. bethany rocks. we love you, bethany. happy birthday to you. we usually talk about female beauty trends. now there's a new growing trend for the guys. >> more and more young men are dying or letting their hair go grey. they don't have grey hair, but they're making it go grey. >> i like men with grey hair. i think it's attractive. >> i notice i have less than last week. >> i don't know why. let it go. >> probably the most talked
