8:04 am
fourth! she says another car crashed into her house in december and two other times cars have come into her car. it's not clear what landed the latest driver to end up in her house, but the driver was somehow not hurt. also happening in brevard county. two people hurt in a violent crash last night. look at that. brevard county fire rescue posted this picture on twitter. two cars involved here here, two people hurt. one had to be cut out of their car. we're still waiting to hear how they're doing this morning. also we're waiting to hear when three people disappeared for days will be back in central florida. gary bullock took off with his girlfriend and three-year-old son. u.s. marshals found them in kentucky yesterday. here's fox 35 kirstin delgado.

8:06 am
>> reporter: now bullock faces charges. qigly could face more charges and maybe jail time. carr telling us he's not sure what the first conversation with his daughter's going to be like. kirstin delgado, fox 35 news. and one man now faces charges related to that mass shooting last weekend at an orlando nightclub. this one happened in the tourist area. 23-year-old jose brull-lopez is free on bond. he's charged with carrying a concealed weapon and tampering with evidence. related to the shooting at glitz ultra lounge. witnesses told them they saw lopez run out the club's back door with a gun and throw it on the roof. the shooting was not random. >> there was a fight between two groups that escalated into a shooting.
8:07 am
at each other. >> detectives are trying to figure out if the shooting is gang related and if retaliation could happen. five of the people shot were bystanders. you decide 2016. the republican debate tonight. donald trump had a rally yesterday. dozens showed up. trump talked about jobs, immigration, trade, and strengthening the military. he went onto say america loses too often and he will make the country great again, he says. also took swipes at former governor, jeb bush. >> we're going to start winning with our military, we're going to win with hillary clinton. we're going to terminate obamacare. yes! he's asleep. he's asleep at the wheel, folks. no, seriously. can you imagine jeb negotiating with china?
8:08 am
to see trump last night. dozens of protesters stood outside the sun dome. some even attacked a donald trump pinata. good morning, ernest. i got to ask you. somebody asked this earlier today. jeb bush really polling very low right now. why does trump keep taking these shots at him? is he looking for a knockout blow? >> i think so. i think trump realizes as he continues to try to margin alize cruz and continue to front runner the republican side is he has to guard his rear. in the rear for his campaign is the establishment side of the party. he still remembers what happened in iowa that he came in second to cruz. more importantly that marco rubio made a push for the establishment portion of the
8:09 am
he saw the sergence of john kasich, but he's still yet to convince a good number of the establishment side of the party, and jeb bush may be making a push there certainly here in florida where he was a former governor. >> is there any danger going forward for trump in these debates? what does he have to watch out for so he doesn't jeopardize that front-runner status? >> this is a guy who has continuously, you could argue bush the boundary of decency in this campaign. there's a laundry list of persons and groups that he's
8:10 am
he has remarked he can clean up his act, and won't be as vulgar on the campaign trail. the question i have is, what does that do to his backers? i think that's part of what makes him so endearing to them and allows him to sort of resonate. if he becomes more established, i don't know that actually helps him. it's going to be interesting to see. presidential for him thus far has been pretty much on outsider. >> a couple weeks ago marco rubio surged briefly. everybody thought he might have things turning in a direction and took steps back in new hampshire. do you think he can turn things around if he has an exceptional debate tonight? >> he certainly has to. there isn't a matter of. if it's a matter of when. if he doesn't get it done we're going to see the demise of marco rubio in this campaign.
8:11 am
clear he came into the new hampshire debate with one thing in mind. he knew he had to do very well to stay in. if nothing else he was going to take down marco rubio. i think it was personal for him. we know christie is one to hold grudges. when i say the kasichs and the bush into a certain extent, christie, the three governors. trying to make jokes and make light of the misstep in calling president obama who knows exactly what he's doing. he's tweeted out that hillary clinton knows what she's doing, but he's got to have a great debate if he's going to stay in any way in contention. >> and certainly these gop debates are drama and fun to watch if nothing else. ernest, thanks a lot. appreciate the analysis today.

8:20 am
and think about it, avatar 2's going to be coming out soon, right? >> i don't know. i think i'm the one person left on the earth that hasn't seen the first one. good morning, everybody. it's nice outside this morning. hope you had a good week. the weather's going to cooperate. temperatures right now, we're starting off predominately in the 50s, though, a little cooler air's just to the north. it's going to try and work its way in here over the weekend. seasonal temperatures, though, prevailing. i don't see any extreme heat or and that's good news. the weekend looks great. rain likely, probably now monday night into tuesday maybe with some thunderstorms. more on that in a minute. outside right now here's that delightful picture from the hyatt regency orlando. you can see the orlando i, the tourist district. 58-degrees, northwest winds at 9 miles an hour. yesterday with the big warmup into the 70s we had southwest winds.

8:22 am
69 tomorrow. tomorrow we bring in a couple of clouds, and monday into tuesday especially monday night into early to mid tuesday could see some rain and you remember this is coming through central florida. we'll keep an eye on that ending off the week just in time for the big week in the daytona on a sunny note. tom. it's just about 8:22. when it comes to money it seems couples have some trouble getting on the same page. so what's behind the mayor disconnect and how can you find some common ground?
tv-commercial
8:23 am
8:25 am
8:25. on the money watch a lot of couples are apparently not on the same page when it comes to money. research shows 72% of couples they communicate exceptionally well, but 43% admit they don't even know how much their spouses are paid. and 47% disagree on how much to save, so obviously there's a serious disconnect. so how do you get on the same page financially? keith simpson with lake advisor group is here to talk about it. how are you? >> i'm doing well.
8:26 am
probably the biggest, single mistake that couples don't make is they just don't plan. >> correct. well, it's like anything else. the first thing you need to do is come up with a plan. now, coming up with a plan is not as easy as it sounds because when you're talking about money it's a very emotional conversation, and especially for younger couples or younger relationships that i might be bringing more debt to the relationship, and i'm not comfortable talking about that, so to get on the same page you do need to have that conversation, and the sooner the better. >> so as the communication starts, what the areas that couples should be talking about as they sit down and make their plan? >> the first thing you just touched on is salaries. it's hard to build a plan if you don't know how much money to work with. sit down and talk about how much money they have to start on the plan. once they've established that, the first thing you've got to cois -- do it set up your
8:27 am
we recommend you have three to six months worth of income set aside so you can cover those expenses if something happens. now, most couples don't do that, but that's the key before you even start saving for anything else, that's the first thing. once you get that established then you can start saving for a house, a baby or short term or long things are. >> i think people when they start going through these things they get really surprised if they go through it truthfully and a lot of little things they don't think about in their budget. >> how many times do you eat out or just the different, little things that you don't normally take into account. >> you've got to plan. if people want to talk more about this where can they find you? >> they can get on our website at the lake advisor group.com. it is 8:27. still to come, what bethune cookman university student is dead. two others are hurt.

8:32 am
that means there are always changes in the winter here, brooks. >> the good thing that we've got going on is we're not going to introduce any rain through the weekend. i don't see any big chill as well. spectacular weekend weather wise. starting off in the 50s outside. corridor. we do have some cool air working its way into florida, and it will through the weekend, we will continue with sunny skies. you can see right now just if you take a look, see that little boundary right there. that's right over tampa, right over brevard county. that's the first little batch of cooler air. it's going to struggle because it's not that powerful. yesterday we were in the 70s. today look for highs into the mid to upper 60s with those north winds coming in to play. it will get chilly tonight, but the warmup is coming around the corner.
8:33 am
tom? 8:32. breaking right now in volusia county. a bethune university student is dead and two others hurt after an early-morning shooting in daytona beach. happened just after 1:00 this morning at the clubhouse of indigo lakes clubhouse. tracy jacim is live on the scene with the latest. good morning, tracy. >> reporter: good morning, tom. and what an awful, awful scene. according today -- daytona police this all happened 1:00 a.m. this morning. simply there was a party going on, they say, and a fight broke out. take a look at this picture. 23-year-old lamont apparently pulled out a gun and began to shoot. he killed a 20 some-year-old man, and then there were two other 20 somethings, a female and a male. one in critical condition this morning.

new york times says grayson promoted his hedge fund. he is running in the democratic primary. in a statement grayson says, the reason why harry reed is making such an absurd statement is because he knows i'm well ahead in the polls and heading for a strong primary victory. also in the news today, school grades are in. school districts are rejoicing this morning, some of them are celebrating the release of grades in seminole county. it's the first time in the history of the county that all of its high schools got "a" grades. osceola, lake and brevard celebrating. however there were several f grades in orange county. we posted a link so you can see how your child's school did.

8:42 am
it usually feels like that some people are knocking the cobwebs out. it's usually an exciting race. last year we just barely missed the big wreck. >> you mentioned day to ein-- daytona rising. how much of a difference do you think that's going to make for fans coming out? >> yeah, i think it's going to be a great experience. i personally have not been up there and seen all that they did, but mostly i've talked to some fans that have been up there and seen it. there's a lot of excitement over it. it's truly a stadium instead of coming to just a racetrack, so i think the environment's going to be a lot different:the feel's going to be different, and the fans are really going to enjoy it. >> we talked about you being a two-time winner daytona 500 and back in 2012. a lot of people saying matt kenseth has everything that it takes to get back and win at the 500 again.
8:43 am
take for you and the dollar general car to get over the hump time? >> yeah, you know, this is an unpredictable race. it's hard to predict what's going to happen, but the first car. you have to do all the right things and have a car that's capable of leading the pack and pulling the lines around and doing all those. when you don't have a car it makes the job much, must have tougher, obviously. >> you mentioned your crew. i don't know the exact number of years you've been with joe gibb's racing, but why do you think you've been so successful? >> it at the top with coach gibbs. we have a lot of great, dedicated, smart people over there, and they build really fast race cars and do a good job
8:44 am
i feel like we got the best people, and it's like any other sport. when you have that that's always an advantage. >> you talking about first race of the season, getting things kicked off. is there a bit that needs to get kicked off. talk to me about your off season. really hit the ground running. >> yeah, i had a lot of fun this off season. got to do a lot of fun things. got to go snowmobiling with my friends, skiing with my family for a while. hung out at home. did a little bit of everything, so it's been a good off season. tried to work on staying in shape. trying to spend some time in the shop. kind of getting mentally prepared and ready for the season. >> all right, well, you mentioned we were just talking about joe gibg's racing, do you have to be a redskins fan or can you bring some other teams into the mix? >> no. he knows i'm a die hard packer
8:45 am
he went up to the game this year he did not invite me, he did not ask me to go with, but, yeah, we talk a lot of football, obviously, i get to hear a lot of cool, old stories, but he knows i'm a packers fan at heart. >> hey, matt kenseth. we had a lot of viewers send me messages. a lot of them said stay safe, have a great year, and looking forward to watching you race. >> thank you, i appreciate that. >> and for my money you have to be a redskins fan.v]g rrz just saying, hail to the redskins. fox 35 has you covered with racing this weekend at 8:00 tonight you can watch the sprint unlimited in daytona. followed by fox 35 news and at 1:00 p.m. sunday it's the daytona 500 qualifying, and you can watch the daytona 500 sunday, february 21st right here on fox 35. race time 1:00 p.m., pre-race coverage starts at noon. all right, let's talk about the weather because it is a really nice day to go racing,
8:46 am
>> yeah, absolutely. tons of sunshine. it will be a little cool into the evening hours because we have some cool air coming into central florida. 58 in orlando. a little cooler in the i-10 corridor. the dew points are the measure of moisture in the air. the higher the dew point the more humid it is. it's not too bad right here in central florida, but just to the north low dew points meaning very cold, dry air coming into central florida. it's going to try. it won't overtake us, and it will be nothing like they see in some parts of the country. 58-degrees outside right now. northwest winds at 9. so we've had a sneaker cold front come through. it's changed the wind direction predominately. there's a secondary front near i-10 that's going to try to bring in some of that colder, drier air. yesterday we made it into it 70s. not so today.
8:47 am
upper 60s. right now it's pleasant outside and temperatures predominately in the mid to upper 50s. here's that secondary front behind it. tens, 20s and 30s. again a little cooler than yesterday, but not cold. it's going to be a nice day. tomorrow we introduce a few clouds. high temperatures upper 60s close to 70. monday we warm up dramatically with the southerly winds, high temperatures well into the 70s, and we're going to watch this front. now, there's no real cold air behind it, but it looks like late monday into tuesday it's going to slide through here with some rain and maybe some thunderstorms, and then we're going to warm up nicely. i think you're going to like you have. today, enjoy it, folks. highs in the mid to upper 60s. overnight, it does get chilly. in the accuweather 7-day forecast. 68 today, 69 tomorrow, and back into the 70s all next week.
8:48 am
we go monday into tuesday. just a sneak peek at 8:00 and 9:00. weather baby time, and who do we have? cambry, you're one beautiful, little girl. >> absolutely beautiful. >> i love that bow. i love that smile. thanks for joining us this morning. if you want your child on weather baby all you have to do is log only to our website and follow the links. we are joined by our garden guru, nate. last time you were here we were talking about don't feed your yard in the winter, and now i'm getting nervous because we've got the lawn mower. >> it's beautiful weather out. this is springtime. it's ready to happen now. we're just getting ready for springtime and making it happen. >> getting ready for the grass to grow. >> now's the best time to tune up your lawn equipment.
8:49 am
it's some certain, little things -- >> shall we do this every year? >> yeah, yeah. it's one of those things that if you do preventive maintenance you'll have better results. it's a lot more fun to do this kind of thing. simple tools you're going to need. [ laughter ] >> simple tools you've got some screwdrivers, a spark plug wrench and a couple things i've recently come up with. if you've come in and you an air filter that looks like this you probably need -- it's supposed to look like this, guys. i got show this on the air. people have that kind of thing. guys, it's really simple to do as far as the tuning up your lawn mower equipment. you want to relace your air filter. it's simple to do. it's not much in tools. you're going to use on the lawn mower and put it into place into here, close it up and tighten it up.
8:50 am
>> the best thing would be to get the old air filter out and bring it in to you and i need one of these but new. >> a lot of people don't know what kind of spark plug they have. bring it in and we can match up the numbers. that's where the spark plug tool comes in handy. maybe an oil change. some mowers there's a plug on the bottom or if you're going to be doing an oil change you're going to tip the mower on the side and get the old oil out. one thing that i found, folks, is most importantly is gas goes bad in a month, okay. so what you want to do is it check the gas first. if you have old gas siphon it out and get rid of the old gas. it gunks up and becomes a problem. there's all kinds of other things that we could be talking about when it comes to tuning up your lawn mower equipment.
8:51 am
>> you're on facebook as well. >> nate the garden guru. i'm going to be at the home and garden show in march, and i want to just let everybody know about that kind of a thing. i'mi'm going to be the first weekend of march. >> and we should bring your equipment in. all right, tom, we'll send it back inside. all right, it is 10 minutes before 9:00. still to come, skip the restaurant, treat your mate to breakfast in bed. we'll show where you a i'm telling you. pyou won't believe the deal i got... pdad loves telling people about the great deal he got on our at&t bundle. i save tons of money. right now, he's talking topsomeone about how he only pays for thephigh speed internet, tv and home phone services hepwants.
