first degree murder and two counts of attempted murder for the shooting that happened off campus. according to the arrest report, there was a fight inside a party here, police say the fight was broken up and then moved outside. that's when authorities say he grabbed a gun. he shot two others bethune-cookman students during the fight. the two are recovering and the whole bc community is heartbroken. >> we would like for the community to come and join us in our prayer for one of our beloved students. reporting live at the volusia county jail.

republicans and four justices nominated by democrats. >> this is go to be possibly the most important appointee with the court's history with issues as such immigration hanging in the balance. does president obama, being a lame duck president, put forth a nominee. how long would the senate wait before putting naming a scalia replacement. it remains to be seen. it does make this presidential election especially more important. >> let's talk about it. we knew immediately when word came out that justice scalia passed away that it would be an important topic. going forward, the presidential candidates will talk a lot about it. >> they are going to look for trends and any potential replacements professional past.

going to do once they are appointed. some appointees believe to rule a certain way and get on the court and rule a separate way. it really is a leap of faith by a president when appointing somebody to the supreme court, when they are sitting and serving, you're not certain how they are going to rule, even though you would like to see them rule on certain issues. >> we have almost a year before the next president takes office. is there any chance, even with that amount of time that president obama makes a nomination and gets it through the senate? >> i think what you're going to see, you're going to see a president name a nominee relatively soon. how long does he allow the court to serve with one less justice than there should be. a lot of pressure coming from different places. i think you'll see some pushback from mcconnell and the senate republicans. it will be a political tug of war that we'll see play out in the next month.

important cases still on the docket at the supreme court. with the court at 4 and 4 idealogically it would seem, is there any chance of any of these cases coming to any kind of resolution. >> i would say a very slim chance. i think you're going to see the court punt a lot. simply because you can't make these nation changing decisions without a full voice coming from the supreme court. i think those will be highly controversial rules and probably end up lost in a legal challenge anyways due to conflict. i think you'll see a lot of major rulings. how quickly once a new president is elected do you think we'll have a nominee that will be able to have a good shot at getting through the senate. >> i can't picture a president waiting more than a month. i think it will be their first major decisions along with a cabinet and everything outlying their administration.

sobering if you're a pedestrian in florida. >> you have a one and four chance that that crash is going to be a hit and run. >> that's crazy. >> i know you guys are constantly working on this, what do you want people to know right now? >> first of all, people leave for various reasons, everything from being scared, impaired, to not having a valid license. the problem is, you increase your chances of being charged with a first degree felony if you leave the scene. you can go to prison for 30 years, and now with the new law, you will go to prison for four years. >> they don't have a valid license, they are impaired, not here legally. very few times don't we see people are scared. for whatever reason, they make it worse. sometimes these people are not even at fault, they leave the scene and had they stayed they are not looking at that first

>> the patrol has a campaign starting. what are the details of that? . >> we do this the second week in february every year, it is more for the victims and to bring awareness to drivers on what they are supposed to do. the law requires you u you, when you get in a crash, call 911 and stay on the scene for other victims. if you are impaired or don't have a valid license, stay and deal with that. >> you'll have family members that were affected by this. a lot of the times the family members of victims are kind of forgotten in all of this. >> this affects so many people from the victim, their family members wanting answers. >> how can people find out more about this?
