county teacher accused of having sex with a student is set to make his first appearance in front of a judge, "fox 35" jean gina benitez has more from tavares. >> reporter: he's accused of having sex with a 17-year-old student. the student alleges that she met the teacher online in november of last year on the website adult friend finder.com. now, according to the victim, the teacher picked her up at 1:00 am and drove her to east rich high school where she says he unlocked the bus gate and drove up to his portable klatch. she said the two had sex in that portable. he admitted to meeting the teen on adult friend finder.com but he denies they ever had sex. he's charged with unlawful sexual activity with a minor. he's set to make his first appearance before a judge here in lake county. we'll be in that courtroom and we'll let you know what happens. gina benitez, "fox 35 news."

new this morning, roads are back open after 1 person decide in an early car crash. it happened at the intersection of curry ford and cimarron. officers say there was only one car involved in the accident. scene. roads were closed because of crash. crews will drain a pond in pine willow. that pond is on the corner about a 5-minute walk from the willow bend apartment complex on silver star road. on monday,elieve susan richardson gave birth to a baby in the parking lot of the willow bend apartment complex. richardson won't say what happened to the baby. she is charged with aggravated child neglect. in orange county a deputy recovering at home this morning after deputies say a teen intentionally ran her down. that 15-year-old driver is still on the run. now, the sheriff is asking for your help to track down this man right here 15-year-old john karr los ortiz. this happened yesterday morning when the sergeant wasd in the process much> trying to take`ll`>8 >

previous charges. as she walked up to his car investigators say the teen her over with his white honda hatch back. "fox 35" spoke with deputy n@ but` her home. >> she's got a lot of -- a lot of facial injuries, stitches, broken foot. a lot of -- a lot of @ bruising, but she's still alive. that's good. >> ortiz is now facing charges of attempted murder on a law enforcement officer. the sheriff's department is asking with anyone for information to please come forward. at this hour the country is preparing to say their final farewell to supreme court justice antonin scalia. funeral mass is being held for scalia in washington, dc, today at the nation's largest roman catholic church. it caps 2 days of official mourning. the 79-year-old died unexpectedly last weekend after nearly 3 decades on the high court.

wife will be attending the mass. president obama is not attending. the justice department suggesting a promise now in its dispute with apple over an encrypted iphone used by a gunman in december's mass shootings in san bernardino, california. the government telling a judge it's willing to allow apple to obtain possession and destroy software. apple ceo says complying with the federal government's request would put other customers at great risk. meanwhile, presidential candidate donald trump is calling on apple to boycott and donald trump is asking to boycott apple coming up on "good day" our political expert will weigh in on whether trump's criticism of apple will be good for his campaign. there is one confirming case of zika virus now in orange county. that is a total of 26 cases across our state. no pregnant women in florida have zika. all of the florida cases are

people caught the mosquito-borne virus and traveled back to florida. only certain species of mosquitos can carry the zika virus. two of those are native to florida. orange county health services says those mosquitos are especially dangerous since they are active all the time. florida is not the only place with the zika cases on the rise. spanish olympic cold medalist marina albow got the virus back in december when she was traveling to brazil. she plans to go back to the games in brazil in august. well, there is a lot going< on at the daytona international speedway ahead of the daytona 500 tomorrow. last night truck racing took center stage. we're talking about the next extra 250. a lap and a huge crash, johnny goes to take on the checkered flag and christopher fer bell negotiation 190 miles an hour

"fox 35" derrol nail live at the track with a closer look at excitement today. hey, derrol. >> reporter: we're here at the geico caveman campground. it's right near turn 3 and turn 4. this is the area where a lot o f people called itx_ t ent_ city but it's where the hardcore race fans are. i want to show you something that we're stuck by early this morning as we're looking at the renovated sports stadium. it was called the grandstand but we're getting a nice even morning light against it. $400 million renovation and really now it's a motor sports stadium. but it's a nice pretty look this morning as we turned our heads back to look at it and we're here at the campground. we got fellows that's setting up here at the race this afternoon getting his tent set up and i do believe he brought his couch

"fox 35" gina benitez joining us live this morning in tavares, good morning, gina. >> reporter: the judge set his bond at $25,000. now, when the judge asked if he had any questions, the teacher asked the judge if his bond could be reduced. take a listen. >> is there any way you can reduce the bond. >> no, no, sir. okay. very well. >> reporter: now, the high school teacher is accused of having sex with a 17-year-old student according to a court document. the student alleges that she met the teacher on the website adult friend finder. now, according to the victim he picked her up around 1:00 am one night and drove her to east ridge high school where she says

school and drove up to his portable classroom. she alleges that the two then had sex inside that classroom. detectives say the teacher admitted to meeting the teen on adult friend finder.com but denied that they ever had sex. the teacher is charged with having unlawful sexual activity with a minor, in addition to the juggle setting his bond, the judge also ordered that he have no contact with his alleged victim. for now reporting in lake county, gina benitez, "fox 35 news". >> gina, thank you. in highlands county another florida teacher in trouble with the law. middle school teacher stacy lynn hooks from sebring accused of sexual contact with a middle school teacher and sending him inappropriate text messages. the student's mother is the one who discovered the relationship. hooks has been arrested on 5 counts of lewd battery, 3 counts of transmission of material harmful to a minor by an electronic device and 1 count of traveling to engage in unlawful sexual conduct.

a $625,000 bond. hooks has been with the highlands county schools for 15 years. developing this morning, jose lopez bonded out of jail. he was one of the two men connected to the glitz ultra lounge shooting 211-year luis loczario for attempted first degree murder you. the lopez was granted bond. he was arrested last week but was re-arrested thursday. two people died at the flitz ultra lounge on february 7th. several others were hurt. investigators looking into whether the shooting was gang-related. a warning now for drivers to make sure they don't get taken advantage of at the pump. check out this card skimmer. it was found at a 7-eleven gas station on easter low bronson memorial highway in st. cloud. police are telling anyone who filled up at the station to definitely check their bank accounts. any suspicious activity should

as that possible. new this morning, the florida department of transportation reminding drivers speeding is not the only way to get a ticket, driving too slow is also against the law. the new statewide campaign is trying to keep florida drivers safe. warning signs have popped up on all the major roads in orlando. drivers are to move out of the fast lane if they cannot keep up with traffic. drivers could get a ticket for a minimum of $121 if they don't follow the rules of the road. the florida highway patrol says there's always an exception anytime with extreme traffic like rush hour. >> andrea: now for your local business headlines, we start with a shakeup at seaworld. members of the executive team exit stage left including the park's chief operations officer. the chief zoological director and parks director they leave as seaworld tries to boost business and park attendance.

"fox 35" gina benitez i think ous live in the courthouse in tavares with the latest information on this story, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, yeah about an hour and a half ago the judge set 41-year-old marshall young rice's bond at $25,000. now, the teacher asked the judge if his bond could be reduced but the judge said no. now, the high school teacher is accused of having sex with a

according to the authorities that student alleges that she met the teacher online in november of last year on the website adult friend finder.com. now, according to the victim, the teacher picked her up around 1:00 am one night and drove her to the high school where she says he unlocked the bus gate and drove up to his portable classroom. that victim says the two then had sex inside the classroom. detectives say the teacher admitted to meeting the teen on adult friend finder.com but we denies they ever had sex. now, the teacher is charged of having unlawful sexual activity with a minor. the young order he have no contact with his alleged victim. this is still a developing story and we'll bring you anything that comes in. for now reporting live in lake county, gina benitez, "fox 35 news." >> andrea: gina, thank you. in highlands county another florida teacher in trouble with the law. middle school teacher stacy lynn hooks from sebring is accused of sexual contact with a middle school student and sending him inappropriate text messages.

mother is the one who discovered their relationship. hooks has been arrested on 5 counts of lewd battery, 3 counts of transmission of material, harmful to a minor by electronic device and one count of traveling to meet a minor to engage in unlawful sexual conduct. she has been booked into jail on a $625,000 bond. hooks has been a teacher with highlands county schools for 15 years. 9:34 now. developing this morning a man bonded overnight he was one of the two men connected to the flitz ultra lounge shooting, a total of 2 men were arrested next to the deadly shooting. both of these appeared in court yesterday. another man being held on no bond for attempted fm. 23-year-old jose lopez was granted bond. lopez was originally arrested last week but was re-arrested on thursday. the people died in the shooting at the gits ultra lounge back on february 7th. several others were injured. investigators are looking into whether it's gang-related. a warning now for drivers to

advantage of at the pump. check out this card skimmer recently found at the 7-eleven gas station on memorial highway in st. cloud. police are telling people whoever filled up to check their bank accounts. the police department there recently did a sweep on those gas stations as well, those pumps. well, new this morning, the florida department of transportation reminding drivers speeding is not the only way to get a ticket. if going too slow is also driving too slow. the fast lane is for fast drivers. the statewide department trying to stop slow drivers. the warning signs have popped up on all major lanes telling drivers to move out of the fast lanes if they cannot keep up with the traffic. drivers could get a ticket for a minimum of $121 if they do not follow the rules of the road. the florida highway patrol says there's always an exception, though, like anytime with

it will give me turn by turn directions if i need to go to the restroom or need to get to any sort of place. that thing is huge. there's 4 levels, 5 levels and all of it was installed with all these beacons. >> one thing i love, marco rubio about being inside the infield as you're close to the action but you can't always see the race all the way around. they've taken that care of with the television screens, that's for sure. >> yeah there are 1400 televisions in there. so if you -- if you cannot see what's happening on the track, i avoid the televisions because they were everywhere out there and they're pretty good -- pretty good sized too so, um, that's definitely been part of theirxp upgrades is to make sure everyone can see what's happening 'cause it's almost a mile long on that track -- the facilities, so, um, it's not like a -- you know, an amway center that's nowhere near a mile long so they really need to keep that action in front of the fans of all times. >> we're talking 40 escalators, 17 elevators. >> right. >> one thing that hits home with a lot of people is the cell phone.
