tv Good Day 9am FOX February 22, 2016 9:00am-10:00am EST
9:01 am
. and we're back. it is now straight up 9:00 on this monday morning. >> here's what's coming up on today's show. >> we're learning new details about the driver troopers say caused a deadly hit and run crash. that story, coming up. >> plus, babysiters getting paid more than ever. how much they're making and why babysiters are becoming much more expensive these days. then.... all new at 9:00, we have our film critic here with his oscar predictions. plus, david martin hanging out with the winner today s. good morning, david. >> you know it, john. i hope you watched the races last night. what a great finish. a historic finish. denny hamlin in the house this morning. one on one with me. he's not excited, though, as i am. i'm more excited than he is. i promise you that.
9:02 am
>> yeah, he's very, very low key. >> all right. let's talk about what's happening outside this morning. it's going to turn out to a pretty decent day. >> not too bad. looking good. temperatures slowly becoming more in line with the 60s as we come up and out of the 50s in a lot of spots now. you can see some of our coastal areas as high as 68 out at melbourne, compared to 66 at disomy, as low end 60s for our north central florida viewers, good morning to you. and claremont at 62. the general gist has been pretty tranquil, benign weather, not a whole lot going on. we have moments of increasing clouds with an isolated rain risk after about 3, 4, 5:00. not very meaningful, at least at this time. wednesday's rains really pack a punch. the rain increasing, the clouds over the eastern and northeastern gulf of mexico. slowly filtering on in. that's going to be the case all day long, all tied to this thing
9:03 am
again, some of the rainfall today will be an indirect result of that because of the southerly wind developing across and south of orlando. that could raise the rain stakes a bit. it is 902. we have breaking news overnight in orange county. troopers say the man arrested in a deadly hit and run was drunk and did not have a driver's license. >> andrea jackson is on the scene with the latest on what happened. good morning, andrea. >> good morning to you, amy and john. the crash happened here early this morning at 317 at the intersection of orange blossom trail and americana boulevard. that driver is 30 -year-old valuen if any of wallo. rammed into the back of three cars, causing a 3, 4 car crash, a deadly crash at the intersection and about 3:17 this morning. that driver took off and took
9:04 am
before he was caught by troopers. he was taken to a hospital. here's what fhp has to say about his arrest. >> troopers have just arrested the hit and run driver. he's on his way to jail, charged with dui manslaughter, leaving the scene of a crash, vehicular homicide. we now know he's never had a driver's license. he's from guatemala. been in florida for seven years. should have never been behind the wheel and did admit to leaving the scene of the crash. >> we see it here live on the scene of the intersection. there are cameras at this intersection. there's also a red light camera at fhp says they're going to take a look at later today to see if they can get security footage, just to continue with their investigation. as you can see, there's also a camera posted there on the americana boulevard intersection side. so it's possible there's more security footage that they'll be able to look at. but as kim said, they've got their man.
9:05 am
involved in that deadly hit and run crash. as for the man who was killed this morning in this deadly hit and run crash, his identity has yet to be released. they're trying to notify his next of kin. also right now, a pond is being drained in orange county as crews search for a missing baby we now know as baby willow. >> that newborn was wounded by her mother last monday. inpond is just east of the willow bend apartments in orlando. that's where police believed that the baby was born and then possibly discarded by her own mother. last week, crews also searched narc dusters, and sewers. they have not found the infant. the baby's mother is not offering them any help in finding the child. richardson is now in the orange county jail being held on bond. also developing right now, the varsity sheriff's office is figuring out what happened after two bodies were found inside a home.
9:06 am
dana has the latest. >> here's what we know so far. brevard county fire and rescue called to the house in the middle of the cull dusac there late last night. 7 indian street is thedries and that's where the first responders found two people dead. the sheriff's office took over the investigation from there. they're calling this a death investigation at this point. no word on whether or not there was any foul play or who was found dead or how those people died. neighbors tell us a father and his young daughter, school aged, live in that house. but again, no details on who the victims are in this case. as we get more information throughout the p day, we'll pass it along to you. but for now, in merritt island, dana jay, fox 35 news. >> also today, the city of orlando is launch agnew garbage experiment to keep recycling beens from overflowing. right now, the state collects strag twice and week and recycling every other week. people have long complained
9:07 am
full but the recycling beens are always overflowing. so the city selected seven neighborhoods to take part in a 6 -month experiment. during that time, the city will collect both recycling and trash once a week. if the results are positive, the entire city could ultimately make the switch. this morning, denny hamlin and his team celebrating a big, big win, the number 11 car beating out by just ten mill seconds. >> it is the closest finish in the history of the great american race. >> here they come to the line. this is the daytona 500. unbelievable. >> i think it was denny hamlin. >> hamlin by an inch. >> hamlin manageded to squeeze past on the final turn and heads out martin truics at the line. hamlin didn't even know he won at first. it was his first victory in ten tries. >> david martin is joining us live. he's at the champion's breakfast this morning. what did you have? did you give me bacon this morning?
9:08 am
>> nice. >> well, i didn't eat breakfast. you may here where they are eating breakfast, presumably they're done now, unless they're eating for two hours. but what a race that was. that finish was incredible. i showed this in the last hour. less than the pencil length is how much hamlin won by and in the entire last four minutes of the race, john and amy. i was ready to congraduateilate kensic. it looks like he was going to win and then i saw truic come up and then half of the folks in the stadium were all confused going was that a hamlin win and it was. and boy, what a finish it was. i know you all talked about this letter he wrote in the second grade, his mom put a picture of that letter on twitter and showed the crowd. we asked him about that, along with other stuff here just moments ago. let's take a listen to that interview. >> congratulations, denny. good morning to you. how are you? >> good, surly. >> what's the first thing you
9:09 am
cleared out? >> first thing i did was kind of round up all the friends and family. we went to dipper and then we had a few cocktails after. that was about it. >> yeah? >> yep. >> take us back to that final ten seconds a historic finish that had the whole country going what. what was going through your head there? >> that was the thing that was most unique about it. didn't have time to think about what it would mean to me or anything like that. and you never think about that essentially unless you're leadling with ten laps to go and you're out front and you lead the whole way. but we only led for like the last 100 feet or so. so didn't have time to think about it. definitely took awhile to sink in, for sure. and it probably still hasn't. and really, when i walk in the front door and i see my car sitting up here, it's surreal that everything that happened. >> all right. well, then, i apologize, folks. that's the wrong piece of tape wanted to show you.
9:10 am
i had a whole separate interview with him about his mom. i hope we get that in this hour. we'll cue that up for you. in the meantime, the man is excited about what's to come this week. he's gutta keep his attention focused on atlanta. >> yeah, the denny hamlin and cheese is what i hear is big out there. hamlin and cheese. >> on a chris aunt. >> there you go. >> all right, david. we'll talk to you soon. >> he doesn't even know we're talking to him anymore. hollywood's biggest night, less than a week away.
9:12 am
9:13 am
. the guy we mentioned in the last hour has seen this movie four times already. deadpool at number one again, bringing in an estimated $55 million this weekend and it's now on track to become one of the most successful r rated movies ever. coming in second is kung fupanda, followed by risen. i heard people said that was
9:14 am
also, the rich and how to be single rounding out our top five. and the academy awards are coming this coming weekend. >> and ismorning we're joined by kevin. >> and deadpool, is the highest opening r rated movie of all time. the original estimates were between 55 and 60 million. it made 47 million the first day. >> unbelievable good. i don't get it. >> the reason being is the script is phenomenal. the guys who wrote zombieland wrote the film. people are waiting for a movie that was true to the comic book form and many of them have been trying to get this movie made for 11 years. it was a passion project for him. put a lot into it. low budget, takes place in the x man universe. it's phenomenal. >> what are your oscar picks?
9:15 am
really hard for you to go into it and not -- because we always feel we pick the artsy fartsy. >> the ones that nobody goes for. >> they never pick the ones we really love. >> the diversity thing is a massive, massive problem. but i've always had a problem with the academy awards. i lost faith in the oscars on march 21st, 1999, when they gave shakespearean love best picture of saving private ryan. i feel like they always get it wrong. they're not in tune with the popular opinion of the public. last year, films that are phenomenal, everybody loved them, no nominations for best picture, which is ridiculous. and compton deserved to be in there, no question. but this year, my favorite movie last year was mad max fury road. it won't win best picture, though. >> i think the only one that actually won that everybody saw
9:16 am
>> now, forest gump was interesting because it was forest gump versus pulp fiction versus shaw shank redemption. but this year, eight films. recognize now, the two runtroners is spotlight and the forever. really, really well made movie. that was the frontrunner for a while, but now the weapons is starting to win everything. it won the globe for best drama, won the dga. i really think, last year birdman won best film. same director, same cinematographer. they shot that movie with all natural lighting. they were shooting in the real element. i think a lot of that did really well at the box office. so if it won, iowa be very happy. i think spotlight's safe for an oscar choice. if i had to definitively pick one, it would be that one. >> it's horrifying. that leads us to the best actor
9:17 am
decaprio is finally going to win an award. he's been nominated four times. never won an oscar. another ren the oscars are out of touch. now, this is ret pretty surreal. the bear scene is pretty mind blowing. the way they did it, they had decaprio on the woods. he's being yanked around and thrown around in the woods so it looks like he's bogue thrown around by an animated bear. it looks incredibly realistic. it's a very prosecutal film to watch. i think he finally wins this year. he should have won for wolf on wall street or gilbert great. >> there's so many ones. >> i think actress is be larson. the movie room. the character spent seven years in a room. she locked herself in her apartment for a month so she could get herself pale so her skin would look like the movie. the movie wasn't shot for that long, but a phenomenal performance. her co star deserved a nomination.
9:18 am
but i think she'll take home the oscar. she won the globe and the sag award. and supporting categories, i think stuloan will finally win. and he was nominated for best actor back in 1977 for the original rocky. didn't win. >> can i just say, he's not been locked in his apartment. he is very tan. >> he's awesome. creed was an amazing film. if you haven't seen it, highly recommend it. and the supportic actress is toss up. could be aleasia or a little movie called steve jobs. i loved. i thinkicate winslet might take that home, as well. the question is, who will win the oscars? >> favorite celebrity you've ever met. >> everest kimballbert. it turned into me making a short film for him. it was very surreal. >> is it online? >> it's called bump on youtube
9:19 am
>> thanks a lot, guys. >> amazing studio. >> good time to get out here. >> jayme king, cooked up a great forecast for the weekend. now, this week, jayme, what you got? rain chances on the rise as we approach our mid week peak on wednesday. until then, party on. right now, starting to align more be60s rather than 50s. the chill of the morning is on the way out and the warm stuff is on the way in. we're doing pretty good right now when you compare aus with the rest of the nation. the gulf south, a little warm and the phoenix keysert running way above normal, not only for the early nights and early morning temperatures, but also in regard to daytime highs. so the southern u.s. now is pretty warm overall. increasing clouds, isolated rain, late. how late is late? i think after 4:00, chance really starts to rise, especially south of orlando. and then late tonight, everybody in the orlando metro and the surrounding communities and counties. the outer burbs into the more
9:20 am
rain chance late tonight. this stuff stays to the north. next system loading up now over the rockies. and this is going to bring a truisms up swing in that rain chance for you. and you can see as the pacific comes to life, system out of system, continues to be ejected out over the continent of the u.s. and that's how it's gonna go. this thing is developing now on the eastern edge of high pressure. it will begin to carve itself out a nice little area to kind of bottom out, almost a bowl, if you will, developing around texas and that should draw that moisture and that system a little bit closer overall. and i want to show, you can see the slim rain chances for today and soon and tomorrow. but if you watch, you'll see that system that i'm mentioning to you now. i've been talking about it since last wednesday, finally moving our way, modeling insisting we're developing a line of organized convection or storm activity you see here along the boundary by 6:00 wednesday morning and after that, it begins to move our way. a tremendous up swing and not only an actual rain chance but
9:21 am
9:23 am
9:24 am
we've galt it, david. >> hey, there john and amy. welcome back out. it's interesting because this was 11th time that hamlin ran the race, the 500. and on the 11th time, number 11 got the trophy. let's take a listen to what he had to say just moments before his breakfast of champions this morning. >> your first win in 11 tries. what's something you learned last night in the race? >> well, i mean, it's just -- i think that a lot of people underestimated, you know, how much handling was going to come into play in yesterday's race. we saw a lot of single file racing but a lot of it was because we saw some of the best drivers out there spin out on their own. so i think that practicing during the day, racing at night and the preliminary races just didn't show us truly what we had until the 500 showed up yesterday. >> you had the lead for so long,
9:25 am
at what point did you say this is mine, i'm coming back? >> you know, i just, you be, made a pretty big mistake going into that last pit stop, sliding the tires. i had one job on pit road and that was not messing up the tires. i did that and i really thought that it lost the race for us. but i just felt confident that, you know, we had all of our toyota teemths around us and i went up to block the four, and when i did, it just sent us so far forward that i just didn't expect what happened to happen and like i said, it just happened so fast, you just don't understand it until you cross the checkered flag. >> your mom tweeted out a picture of the letter you wrote in the second grade, saying my goal is to win the 500. it was a handwritten note. since you're so good at predicting the future, what's your next goal?
9:26 am
ultimate goal, for sure. i don't know if i ever have written a letter or essay about a championship, but i do actually remember writing that essay about the daytona 500. i was always a huge bill elliott fan growing up and i remember 1987. so i was in second grade and it's crazy. you know, i was 18 years off on my prediction, but it all worked out anyway. >> sure did, man. congratulations again. >> you got it. >> you know, john and amy, i wonder if kevin mccarthy the film critic saw the end of the race last night. it was a hollywood movie type ending last night. where were you? i was watching it from home and i was screaming in the living room because i couldn't believe it. >> you know, when jeff gordon and darrell kept saying on that last lap, somebody's gotta make a move now. i'm like, how are you gonna make a move.
9:27 am
this is going to happen? >> like karate. >> they didn't know at the end, either. like what just happened. it took them by surprise, as well, which made me feel good watching it as kind of a rookie fan. but i loved the race and what a great guy. they were getting ready for a lot of rain in atlanta right now, but what a terrific race. we'll be back here next year for the 500, of course. >> that was a fun interview. >> coming up, a typical date night could easily run you more than $200. >> we're talking dinner, $60 easy. movie, $40 easy. babysitter, at least another $60. the price of a babysitter is on the increase. we'll tell you why, straight ahead. threes your live look in
9:28 am
happy monday and you're watching during this extended visit from your extended family, all you want is a peaceful moment to stream your show. and you need enough bandwidth to share with a full house of hungry users. lightning internet from bright house networks. the speed you need. and now connect to... standard tv and 50 megabit lightning internet... only $94 a month
9:31 am
today. >> troopers are investigating the deadly hit and run crash in orange county. it happened overnight at obt and americana boulevard. the driver who caused the crash did not even have a license. one person died in that crash. we're still waiting to learn who that victim is. troopers say the suspect didn't even wait at the scene and instead, drove himself to the hospital. that's where he was arrested. the suspect is being charge charged with hit and run and dui manslaughter. >> an orlando man is begging for witnesses to come forward after his mother was run over and killed by a dirt bike. it happened saturday night near intersection of powers and denison drive. the driver of the dirt bike lost control and then crashed into 59 -year-old marie louie st. who was walking on the sidewalk. both of them were rushed to the hospital and later died. her son talked to us about the last time he saw his mother aall
9:32 am
the street to get something. >> just such a sad story. troopers say there was a group of motorcycles and atvs in the area when all that happened. but none of those drivers remained at the scene to be questioned questioned. >> orlando police have identified the suspect in an armed robbery. police are looking for 31 -year-old divine lovet. last monday, lovet pulled a gun on a cab driver in orlando and stole the driver's wallet and cell phone. lovet could be a man but dressed as a woman. >> the city is planning something big to take up the space around the sun rail station. the city council is considering a 25 year master plan that envisions over 150 acres of commercial, office and housing space. the plan also includes eco lodging and storm water treatment pibids. there's also talk of collaborating with a college grades and campus space there. >> time now for this morning's business headlines and joining us from the fox business network
9:33 am
we begin on this monday with the market. hello, lauren. how are things? >> it is such a good day today. first of all, friday, last week, best week of the entire year for stocks and the momentum is continuing. the reason is oil. i'm looking at prices right now, above 31, up 6 %. the dow is climbing well over 100 points as i speak. so it's a green monday, if you will. >> that's good. this yelp employee who got fired, when you post your salary and say am i getting paid enough, i don't know that you can really complain about that and most bosses don't like that. >> no, and i think we're all considering and thinking about our first jobs maybe in some smaller markets where you had to work a second job in order to make ends meet and you're probably saying, oh, you poor millennial. but this is a story that's getting a lot of attention online. a yelp employee working in their community service department makes $12.25 an hour. her name is tallia james. she's 25.
9:34 am
ceo, posts it online, and basically says i'm hungry all the time, i can't afford food, heating from my home, living so far from san francisco. i had to work a whole year doing a job i don't want to do because i want to move up to media relations. that hasn't happened yet and people are going online, and saying, good for you. this is so unfair, paying off student debility, not making enough money. and other folks are saying, you poor millennial. you're just paying your dues. what do you think, john? >> i think i worked four years in the media before i ever made more than $ten an area, in major markets where it's expensive to live. >> i know. and you're saying, can i work this job? what if i get recognized in the town? >> i'm like delivering chinese food. >> i was papa jost. delivering pizzas at night, doing news during the day. also, for people who mate ironing, what is this? the rowatt does it for you.
9:35 am
essentially. it uses two x box connect censors to scan the garment and figure out how to tack the creases. it's really clunky and i don't think anyone will buy it, but think about it. as we start to roboticize household chores, the fact that you can iron with a robot and maybe other things in your home, too, we're moving into the right direction. >> that's a start. and it may not work right now, but 10, 15 years down the road, i love it. all right, lauren. >> there are people who like to iron, john? >> is it therapeutic? i've heard that before. it's that incident gratification. i love mowing the yard. it's incident gratification. i can look behind me and say, i did something. and then i complain about it for the next week. thanks so much. always good to see you. have a great day. you can catch lauren every weekday morning on the fox business network at 5:00 a.m.
9:36 am
do you like mowing the yard, jayme? >> i like tending my palm trees. i do like that. but i see what you mean, john. you do the job, look at it, you can look back and say, hey, i did that. and i'm doing this too now, your forecast showing that front to the north. got a lot of rain tied to that steak and through east texas, getting into and toward our florida panhandle. but believe it or not, the rain chance today, not tied to that. it's tied to the southerly air flow ahead of this particular system. i've added an isolated rain chance after 4:00, 5:00, increasing clouds. again, as we go on through the day today, you're going to notice that chance of rain will begin to creep on in. by tomorrow, a little more so and then by wednesday, it's coming with a stronger system approaching from the west during that time. so 70s now. couple out liars in the 50s. everybody getting close to about 80 today. the exception will probably be along the immediate beach front,
9:37 am
after that, we welcome in a higher rain chance by mid week and then after that surge of rainfall, we clear it out, cool things down, back to the 60s during the day and the 40s in the overnight. the full forecast is coming up in just a bit. >> thank you, jayme. babysiters are not cheap. you know that, right. >> yep luann is here to tell us what they expect to get paid these days. >> good morning. on average, babysiters are now making more than $15 an hour. that's according to the childcare site urban babysitter. babysiters are making 5 % more this year than last year. they're now earning $15.71 an hour. parents with two kids are paying their babysiters at least $18 on average. now, the website surveyed 800 families all across the country and experts say the higher wage is mostly due to a higher cost of living, but it's also being driven by a higher number of adults picking up babysitting jobs as a side gig.
9:38 am
and college degrees, of course, are able to demand higher pay. and get this, guys. nearly 20 % of sitters are getting tips on top of what they're getting paid and this is why i don't go out very much. by the time you get a babysitter, pay for dinner and a movie, you're out $200. >> that number, they put in i'm sure san francisco, new york, la so maybe that drive the number up. that's a lot. >> but a babysitter is a babysitter. typically it's a teenager, lives at home, doesn't have any bills. $15, they're making more than your yelp girl. do they have to report that on their taxes, if you're making that kind of cash? >> it's your job. that's why they do it. >> not only is it $15, $15 tax flee which is like making $20 an hour. >> exactly. with a tip on top of it, of course. it's like waiting tables. >> thanks, luann.
9:39 am
9:42 am
there's a live look . here's a live view, looking down the attractions area. you can see the orlando i there on the right side of your screen. kind of cloudy. 67 degrees, the temperatures feel nice. this morning, we're talking to a young author about three books she's written. winnie herrings is just 12 years old. she's already published her own adventure series. the sefron adventures are a stories about a bearded dragon and not just any bearded dragon. it's actually winnie's bearded dragon. it's her pet. and she's joining us this morning along with her mom, suzie. great to see you. thank you both for coming in. so tell me first of all how did
9:43 am
write a book about your pet bearded drag scene. >> well, i really like the way sefron posed for pictures and i just have a very imaginative imagination. >> i imagine you write a lot anyway so have you always been into creative writing? >> yeah, i really liked it, just from the start. >> tell me, when you would sit down to write a story, did you ever say, gosh, i'd really like to make a book out of this? >> yeah, i have a great imagination, like i said. and it would just be fun, i thought too, write a book. >> so what made you decide to make sepron the focus of your stories. >> well, he's just more sits still kind of than my other pets. if i used them to illustrate the stories, there probably wouldn't be a book. >> i got to tell the viewers, the stories are super cute. and you have pictures throughout the stories and you also have pictures of your cats. you have two cath. >> we actually have ten, but i couldn't put them in the book. >> oh, my gosh. are they all in the house?
9:44 am
are at my parents secretinary clinic. >> sefron's two feet long so they don't really bother him. >> here in florida, the cats don't really like lizards. they try to catch them. >> tell me about the stories and how the adventures have turned into this book series for you. >> well, i thought it was pretty cool and so i wrote a book and i asked amazon to publish it and they did and i was really surprised because i didn't think i would really get to be a published author. >> so you did self publishing first, which that's what a lot of people do. what did you say to winnie to encourage her to go down this road? because it's not easy. >> she's very motivated and she was so interesting in doing it and when she comes so excited with an idea, you just have to encourage them. >> what did you tell her and go
9:45 am
is how most people go about doing this, to having someone take interest and publish it themselves? >> actually, winnie took interest in that and she looked up and watched a web nar on how to publish books on amazon and we talked about it and i helped her with the technical. but really it was her motivation. i helped her with the details. >> i love it. this is such a great thing. and what do your friends say? >> sometimes they like to help me take the picture for the book. >> do you have to give them credit? >> no, they just want to volunteer. >> i love it. it's such a great idea. what advice would you give to other kids interested in this? >> it's a lot of work and you really have to think about it before you do it. i think the three steps you could do, would be to plan and prepare and then act and then you finish. you finish well and you finish strong, just like running a race. >> and you never give up, right? what advice would you give the parents if kids are showing an interest in something like this? >> really encourage them.
9:46 am
something they can't do. because they can do anything they set their mind to. >> i love it. such a fun story. >> well, the christmas book is on amazon and right now, we're working on putting an easter one on. my website has all three books available and i didn't tell winnie herrings.com. >> okay. >> i love it. krngzs, winnie. i'm so proud of you. congratulations and thanks for being with us this morning. 9:45 right now. >> thank you. good stuff. let's talk about your numbers now as we soar into the 60s. i've got 70, looking good out at the villages. good morning to you. not a bad temperature for an early tea time today. kissimmee 66 and melbourne at 68. a general theme of increasing clouds and temperatures are going way high today. 80 on average over the interior. a little cooler long the beach front and by 8:00 tonight, we talk about semblance of a rain chance coming back. about 30 %. i don't think anything higher than that and it looks like
9:47 am
to our south, south and central florida across far south florida. it will help to draw moisture on in and a system locked up to the north and also kind of aiding and abetting with the whole pros. clouds begin to slide in from time to time. as i mentioned the wobblings and north and tea time. it looks good today. we have moments of clouds. again, the clouds make trends a little more ominous and not a whole a lot of rain tied to that. you can see that north of the boundary and cloud massed down to the south. slowly slipping our way. we also look for a lot of energy that will begin to develop, now in the developmental stages over in the central and high plains that dips down across texas and draws an area of low pressure and a cold front closer at no time region. that could bring in a quick little stint of very hard afternoon. that's one thing we're locking onto now and really the only thing i find, you want to call

to speak, in regard to the forecast in the sex seven days. that's the stand out alert and after that, we cool things down and dry things out. glocking weekend, by the way, by next weekend. for today, into tuesday and wednesday, it's a slow up tick and rain chances, stronger system approaching by wednesday for the mid week peek. we start to see conditions going down hill during that time. for the, i mentioned pretty warm temperatures from the far north, down sooth, east and west, locking just fine. the theme parks, if you're visiting or a local heading down for a bit of entertainment today, looking good overall. again, on the warm side. and 50 and 60s for you on the day-to-day, palm coast, locks like 60 at the overnight hour tonight. daytona 60 and 63 out at sanford. so the forecast for the next seven, rainy weather targets the mid week timeframe. after that, licking good. sunshine phasing in and of course the temperatures through the 60s. that's your forecast, everybody. let's talk a bit about snapping the sun. this is fromioly. thank you so very much.

>> i didn't tell all in honor of heart month.also, chef edwin from florida hospital. thanks so much for coming in today. >> i think one of the main concerns people have is when you hear, you gotta eat healthy. you think, great. this is not going to work out well. but there are good options, right? >> well, we tend to actually what we're presenting for you today, we have a combination of salmon, which i'm just going to prepare a really quick sauce for it. but with that, we always need a side dish, right, or some veggies from the side, right, because we usually go for the protein. but there are other components that they're very, very official for health and our heart. so right here, we just do a flavor of rice. this is very simple flavor. it just has grape fruits and of course some peprs and onions. >> wait, dried fruits. >> yeah. and then we constitute that with a vegetable broth that we're just going to place right here.
9:54 am
reasons you asked about the dried fruit balls one of the risks for heart disease obviously is high blood pressure and that's a lot of times because we're getting too much salt. so edwin is showing you is how you can enhance the flavor of your foods without actually having to use salt. so combining the peppers, the dried fruit is a great way to get just that pop of flavor. and that of course with american heart association and national heart month, that's what it's all about, showing people how do you eat healthy and it tastes really great. but you don't add all that fat and all the salt that really is a risk for heart disease. >> i think the same thing, too. and when you said you were going to make a glaze or whatever it might be for the salmon, i love salmon but it can be dry and you feel like you have to cover it with something. >> so what do you do? how do you spice it up and still make it good?

salmon, we're going to add the extra sodium content. youed a 1 -8th of a tea spoon of salt and a little pepper. we place it right here because our spices are in the rice. so we have some granular, garlic, nutmeg, and cayenne pepper in there. but for the salmon, we didn't just gonna turn right here and really make these ingredients and rightherer we have 1 -third cup of fruit juice, diced mango. yeah. you don't have to get them fresh. you can, if you want to. if you were have to get them fresh, just a little. because this is some of the bryan from it. so it will liquefied and it will make more. we have right here, free sour cream, right? so you see. how we kind of like just building a sauce that is not really a hot sauce or a warm

really well with it. so here we have the lime. lime zest, and that's going to give that tangy flavor to it and we have just one tea spoon and a half lime juice. you see how simple that is? it's fairly simple. >> let's talk about nish as being a great heart health food. what types of fish do you recommend? >> the fatty fish because the omega three fatty acids which is very heart healthy. the salmon, your tunas, mackerel herring, sardines. >> my favorite. >> right here. we're just going to go for it and just place it right there. >> just to let our viewers at home know, this recipe is available at the heart association.org and there's a

tasty recipes available at their websites. >> i didn't tell all about portion sizes, too. if we double up the rice, we double up the salmon and all of a sudden, we're talking about. that's very colorful which is all part of healthy eating, giving all those different colors. the whole grain brings the fiber in. that helps with dlaurl and blood sugar levels. and that's very eye appeal,ic, but also very tasty. >> i like it. what's the website, people can check out? >> cart.org. >> heart.org. >> and for hospitals, of course. >> i love it. thank you so much. >> thank you for having me. >> really great to see. >> and it smells so good. now the show's over. we can eat.
