road to downtown will take 4 minutes. >> john: an iconic mansion in cocoa beach burned. >> amy: it happened on 3rd` street and atlantic` avenue. that's where we find fox 35's andrea jackson with the latest details. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. fire crews still battling a few of the hot spots left over here at the mansion at 333 south atlantic avenue. they're battling it from a large crane up above. it is a total loss. 10,000 square feet of this historic mansion located here in cocoa beach. burned to the ground. firefighters got the call around 9:00 p.m. firefighters had a hard time fighting the blaze because of high winds and issues of water supply. idea for usa today was born at

he founded florida today too, al neuharth. tennis court, basketball court, a treehouse with running water and electricity. the property recently sold for $5 million. the highest price ever paid for a house here in brevard county. hundreds of people lined the streets to watch history burn. >> it's very sad. i used to walk by here every day when i lived on 2nd street. i walked past here walking the beach. >> reporter: live back out here, we take a look at the crane and the firefighters are battling a few of the left over hot spots. one remaining structure, an a a-frame guest house, considered an in-law suite, that's the only thing that survived the blaze. everything else is a total loss.

at conway road around midnight. fox 35's holly bristow is live on the scene with details. >> reporter: things seem to be slowing down at the crime scene. only one police officer is left on scene. the search for the suspect is on. a home invasion robbery where the victim's dog was shot and killed at the cambridge apartments off of conway road. two unknown suspected robbed the victim after breaking in, and the suspects shot and killed the victim's dog and stole the victim's car. the victim sustained injuries. he has head injuries from being pistol whipped. we're told that the suspect took off in the 2004 silver mercedes. 479mfe. if you have any information on this crime, are you asked to contact the orlando police

hear from those who >> john: 6:46. all new this morning, volusia county crews had their hands full of flames. a brush fire on may town road in oak hill. the flames burned more than 30 acres and an investigation is under way to determine how that one started. >> amy: a weather alert. thousands of people evacuating homes in texas. >> john: 20 counties struggling to battle the worst flooding they have seen in more than a century. a state of disaster in those counties. and they don't expect anyone will be able to return to their homes any time soon. the victims said that the flooding came out of nowhere. >> i went to bed at 10:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. we didn't have any water. just some in the ditches. >> the national guard is being called in to evacuate those
