at a restaurant and look over and see another couple sitting at a table and, they are looking at their phones -- or maybe the whole family looking down at their phones, nearly 23% of our time is spent on-line according to nielsen it seems low and women are the biggest abusers of this. so it can be hard as a couple to compete with technology for your loved ones' attention. joining us this morning to talk more about it is our good friend and relationship expert, great to e see you as always. we are talking about couples but it is really an epidemic. a family problem. because it is sad when you look over and see a family, sitting there at dinner and everybody is on their phones and nobody is talking. we're not interact with each other. >> not connecting. and it's important to note that relationship is about connecting. now, within the context of romantic relationships, especially husbands and wives, it can be really bad and let me first say most of us are guilty of this.

commercial. >> i did! one thing you have to look at is that you have to know sometimes that is an escape. and it ends up hurting your nation ship long term. because it always is easier to go to your phone. that you can avoid situations, avoid really trying to communicate, really trying to converse about seeper things. let me go to my phone or go to my videogame or let me just do that, a couple things we need to say to couples. number one, assess yourself before you assess your partner. because a lot of times we want to say you are always on your phone, to your partner. but really have to assess yourself first. especially when you spend your time on-line differently than your partner. so, video games versus facebook. or video games versus twitter. we have to assess ourselves and assess our partners.
