>> luanne: is florida at risk for sinking into the ocean. a local professor will explain his shocking research. first a check on the friday forecast with jayme king. so far so good out there. >> jayme: we'll take it as it comes. and it looks like the rain will ramp up going into the afternoon hours. 60s for us right now. we have had a couple of pockets of light rain. and radar is much quieter and diminished in overall activity. rain chances arriving. 40%. we're fair game for rain drops all day long. after we see the 2:00 p.m. time frame, and endure the day time heating cycle, we get rain production, especially well north of orlando. gainesville, light stuff on the southwest side of the county. more ramping up over the gulf. the intensity is lacking. it's mainly light now. but as the front drops

area, that's when we see over the central gulf energy pockets riding up and alonged front. those are the main drivers, culprits if you will, to bring a good shot of rain. lower chances today, and higher chances after the noon hour tomorrow. early saturday subject to like the likethe pockets and. light pockets and then sunday lesser chances. and a couple scenarios could play out. we'll have the full forecast coming up >> kristin: . sky fox is fly over a big mess in apopka on the 414 and the 429. i'll step out of the way. it's pretty dark out there, but backups, huge, huge, back ups.p 414.`` maitland, at` the 429. we're working to get more details.

we're talking about so you can see it here. major delays indicated by the oranges there on the 414. again, eastbound 414 and 429. and we'll bring you some more details. heading over to:si downtown orlando we have some big changes coming. at the 408, the westbound on ramp from orange avenue. that's where we find fox 35's andrea jackson. this is a project that will go on for quite some time? >> reporter: yes. good morning. three years. commuters have to get used to the big change. the new change-up is right behind me. you have to access at division street. no longer access from orange avenue. that's the big change from commuters this morning. that ramp has been relocated from orange avenue to division avenue at anderson street. relocating the ramp. interchange. that's in need of a major makeover.

access the new short-term ramp. i like how they call it a short-term a, because it's a three year project. this is one of the major changes. it's in effect for three years. by 2019, the new ramp should be reopened. just a reminder, with the i-4 ultimate project, patience is a virtue >> luanne: a heart broken community is helping a local family after a teen dies in a house fire. >> john: these are pictures of 17-year-old trevor ross. his friend said he loved animals, photography, and even volunteered in the community. >> reporter: there's been an outpouring of support for trevor ross and his family in the past 24/48 hours or so. there's photos of him posted here at the end of the drive way where he was killed in a house

he was 17 years old. a lake mineola high school student. according to a go fund me page he was into robotics and animal rescues. he is survived by parents and two brothers who lost just about everything they owned in the fire on wednesday night. as we told you yesterday, the city of mineola is doing what they can by collecting donations on their behalf. >> the community has been wonderful so far in pouring out their donations of clothing, food, monetary, gift cards, and the businesses are stepping up to ask what they can do to help. so we're just trying to keep that going. >> reporter: over the last 24 hours or so, we learned that the rest of the family was not home at the time of the fire. trevor was sleeping in his room. firefighters tried to resuscitate him, and they were unable to do so. investigators think they may not

so badly damaged. >> luanne: sea world's decision to stop breeding killer whales is already paying off for them. >> john: the company's stock went up about 10 10% hours after they made the announcement. and they announced that they'll phase out theatrical shows at the parks. sea world said that it es could increase attendance by 1 million visitors, generating an additional $80 million in revenue in the next three year, and they are abandoned their blue world orca habitat project. >> it's good to know because humans and animals and it's educational you get to see them. not in a natural habitat but you get to see them. >> it's kind of sad that the next generation won't be able to see the orcas. like we got to see them when i was a kid.

keeping an animal that size in captivity. >> john: currently 29 orcas. one of which is pregnant. >> luanne: researchers say that orlando is one of the top cities in the u.s. most at risk for a zika virus. >> reporter: this is from the national center for atmospheric research. shows orlando one of the hot zones -- by far one of the biggest hot zones when you see how big the circle is. one of 50 cities expected to have a warmer than normal summer and spreading across the country. making orlando the perfect breeding ground for zika carrying mosquitoes. takes into account the number of international travelers. and orlando is at the top of that list. and four new cases here in the sunshine state. one in brevard and three in alachua. so far 66 confirmed cases in florida. of course, all of those are

this is according to the state health department. >> luanne: all new this morning, the volusia county man convicted of hitting and killing a horse will be sentenced today. last february christopher todd got into a verbal argument with a group of people riding horses along the st. johns' river. the officials said that they were fighting over how fast that todd was driving. he rammed into one of the horses and took off. he was caught and charged. >> luanne: the sheriff avenues office has been given approval to buy 225 body cameras after months of research. they rolled out the video showing off the new gear. $2.5 million, and they'll be paid for by money seized in criminal cases. >> john: round two of the arnold palmer invitationals.

>> this was supposed to be a stunt at the atlantic community high school at delray beach. rickey inferno charles, that's what he grgs by, was on the mat and breathes fire. the man makes the dunk but charles is caught on fire. he had to be taken to the hospital. he has severe burns. several studentses treated for smoke inhalation. he believes that the stunt went wrong this time@ because he used a new type of lamp oil. 7:15 here on "good day orlando." here's jayme king with your accuweather forecast. >> jayme: it's friday. you have made it to the weekend. congrats. the weather, not too bad right now. there are sprinkles and a lower cloud deck. a little sliver of sunshine eastbound towards coastal brevard, not too bad right now. temperatures in the 60s, and that's everywhere.

others at the station, a lot of folks on facebook, saying, it was a lot cooler last night. we had had a jumbo complex of thunderstorms that developed north of orlando, as the front crept out of southern georgia. there was a outflow boundary. and the down draft. and it went rocketing through orlando, at 30 knots and screaming on through. and helped to bring down the temperatures and make them a bit more tolerable. 2:00 p.m., 82. the rain chance is very light and slight early this morning. after 2:00 p.m., it coincides nicely with the chance rising to 40% with the sea breezes punch, in off the east side. and low to mid-80s in spite of

splotchy rain right now. and later today you get the wipers a good work out and the umbrellas as we see another batch of energy developing along the frontal boundary. south of that, massive clouds on sat rad, a twist, cyclonic, or clockwise wrap, nugget of low pressure. and it ripples along and heads head long through. bringing up the chance of rain on saturday. a slight chance in the a.m. and the coverage may be pretty good overall with 60% of us seeing the rain drops setting up. scattered shower, and even a few isolated thunderstorms and packing quite a punch. fairly modest chances for rain. another surge into saturday. you can see how the moisture fills in along the boundary. by late saturday night into

winding down. modeling wants to bring the front down and through. sunday may, the better of the two weekend days, saturday and sunday. we'll see how it pans out. clouds on the minds of many. continuing to thicken over the panhandle. a day of mainly mostly cloudy skies but a few slivers was sun should not be ruled out. as we dry things up, clear things out, we cool i thinks this down. the high on monday is around 68. and lows tuesday morning, and monday morning, pretty chilly, upper 40s if not 50. no chance of rain. and then by wednesday, it should pump in a few extra clouds and solid highs in the 80s and lows near 60. >> kristin: right now chopper is flying over a big mess in apopka. we're seeing a crash and it appears there are several emergency crews out there.

would have to build something that would protect them, like we see in miami, or they'll have to move away. yes, we found about three times higher than what we thought previously. >> john: i am sure a lot of people have seen the videos out there of what would happen in miami. and orlando beach front property, is that what the research you saw? >> at least some parts of orlando would be. the worst case scenario, 6 feet, a pretty extreme scenario. areas in orange county would be, in fact, along -- at least along the lagoon. >> john: dealing with global climate change and warming. >> mm hmm. >> john: a lot of people say we had a scare about global cooling been what if we have a cycle where it comes back and it's not a big deal, did you take this into account with the research? >> we did not.

morning, not much of a chance.xo nearing the p.m.xo hour, those numbersxo rising. guardian we call it always scanning the skies. light returns over the atlantic. and non-consequential. we found activity near the big bend of florida. very light and not much going on. the driver is the stalled front that eventually kicks down to the south. that's why the forecast for the next seven looks like this. rainy times ahead. we see the peak tomorrow. and then by sunday though will the front come all the way through before noon? if it does, better weather lies ahead for at least a portion of sunday, and certainly next week looking good, and a lot cooler, and even colder feeling with mid-60s and highs in the upper 40s by tuesday morning. >> kristin: i want to take you` south of` the florida mall on obt.

slowdowns on obt right there. there's a roadblock associated with this crash at principal row and orange blossom trail. suggest of the florida -- south of the florida turnpike. taking you up towards major changes in downtown orlando. we do have the 408 westbound entranramp from orange avenue shutting down today. it'll be shut down for quite some time. fox 35's andrea jackson is out there live. andrea, this project will take quite a bit of time? >> reporter: good morning. three years. they're calling that short-term, and it's all a matter of perspective. this is the at division street. westbound 408. you have to come to division street you can't enter at orange. it's been relocated for what considered long-term from orange to division. and. creates room for crews working

it's a major project in need of a major remodel. you need to use south or gore street. one of the first major changes. the detour is in effect for three years. by 2019 you should be able to access the 408 westbound ramp from original avenue in downtown orlando. we're live in downtown, andrea jackson, fox 35 news. >> kristin: so like she said, for the next three years you can use this alternate. from south street to division avenue. then hop on 408 westbound from there. or coming from the other direction you can use gore street. take gore to division and then hop on 408 westbound from there. again, that's three years of delays there. westbound, i-4, lake mary boulevard to colonial, 19 minutes. using the 408 this morning, 417 to downtown will take you 12 minutes.

say spring break is getting out of hand this year >> luanne: they are calling in extra patrols now. ryan elijah has more on that. i guess they're partying a little too hearty over there, huh? >> reporter: and 10 deputies and beach patrol patrolling a three block area. they have been forced to beef up enforcement because more students are here than prior spring breaks. there have been 150 arrests dramatic lip higher than last year. >> a large number of crowds. apparently some of the other beaches they're not going to now, and they're coming to daytona instead. >> reporter: beach patrols are trying to control crowds by making anyone they see with alcohol dump it out. spring breakers are not fans that have. >> it's a bit ridiculous.

this all happened yesterday afternoon. af wild animal may be getting into exhibits at the brevard zoo. workers noticed that a bird was missing from its enclosure. they think that a wild bobcat somehow snuck in and killed the bird. >> usually when a bird disappears we think it's a bobcat. their favorite food in the whole world is wild turkeys. like that >> luanne: a bobcat has beenh seen in the area. they have set up traps and hope to catch and relocate it. >> john: gator, and snakes. record numbers of pythons spotted in one county. collier county researchers bagged more than 2,000 pounds of pythons in the last three months alone. the snakes are breeding faster than ever because they can easily hide in animal burrows.
