on a barge in the pacific comes up short. good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. three americans released by iran are in germany this morning receiving medical evaluations. a fourth freed american decided to stay inside iran. their freedom in exchange for a group of iranians in american custody came just before the u.s. slapped new sanctions on the country. iran is calling those new sanctions illegitimate. with more. >> reporter: from the release of the american prisoners to the lifting of old sanctions, the weekend was marked by a flurry iran. this morning, the country's moderate president says the newly implemented nuclear deal will not only improve his country's economy, but also open what he calls new windows for

it is a long-awaited moment of freedom. this picture shows freed "the washington post" reporter jason rezaian as he and two other freed americans made a stop in switzerland sunday. after leaving iran, an internal moment to post staff that rezaian is in good spirits. half a world away the sister and brother-in-law of freed american brother left detroit on sunday to see him and they spoke exclusively to cbs news. >> i don't think it will hit me seeing him. >> reporter: after spending three and a half years at iran's notorious evan prison, christian pastor saeed abedini is on his way home. this lady went to wife with with his wife in high school. the three men and fourth american were swapped for seven e u.s. and two of them were released from a federal detention center in

also this weekend, the u.s. lifted economic sanctions on iran as part of the deal to roll back the program. >> once again, we are seeing what is possible with strong american diplomacy. >> reporter: after iran recently test-fired a missile, the u.s. to impose new sanctions against 11 individuals and entities tied to the country's ballistic missile here are at least two other americans thought to be detained in iran. a fifth american who was released over the weekend as part of a separate deal is now in massachusetts. >> don champion here in new york, thank you very much, don. the fate of three americans missing in iraq is a mystery. iraqi media reports, say that they were kidnapped in or near the capital of baghdad. the u.s. embassy in iraq confirmst didn't provide details. embassy staff recently received
