this week's 50th super bowl isn't the only 50th being celebrated in the san francisco bay area. this winter also marks a half century in the life of the city's most famous music venue, the fillmore. we will have a session performance from the fillmore moment. first, a look back at 50 years of this >> reporter: ever since the ne played the first rock concert here 50 years ago this month, the fillmore has been a musical mecca. ter: it began as the epi center of california's

the grateful dead, thea, the byrds, all made their names here. what was this room originally built as? >> it was called a majestic halln 1912 and it was a big meeting hall for the people in the neighborhood. >> reporter: michael bailey books the fillmore for live nation. what is the root of the this place? >> well, it goes back to bill graham and his early days as a eporter: the late promoter bill graham first started booking rock acts in the fillmore in 1966. >> weble music there. getting to the point >> reporter: graham nash played the fillmore in the early days with , nash, and young. what was it about him? >> he loved san francisco. he loved hippies. he loved rock 'n' roll and he saw a way of money putting all of those things together and he made a lot of money.
