treated differently. shelby miller joins us live with what's happening right now. shelby? >> reporter: hey, romona and mark. it is still going strong out here now in front of gibson's. can you see there are probably more than 100 people who gathered. it was raining a couple of minutes ago and cleared up since then and not slowing people down across the street. they are holding signs that say honk for black lives matter and people are doing so as well and saying jce students. as you mentioned, this all stemmed from an incident that happened wednesday inside gibson's bakery here in downtown oberlin. according to the police report, the suspect in this case jonathan aladdin tried stealing two bottles of wine. the employee tried to take a picture of the suspect. that's when the two got into a fight. the suspect supposedly hit the employee's phone out of his hand and then police were called to

according to individuals who were with the suspect, they say the store employee was profiling the student and that he is the one who started the altercation. that's why they are out here right now. i spoke to an organizer just a little bit ago. she tells me this protest began yesterday. they were out here 12 hours yesterday and plan to be here 12 hours today and began to gather at 11:00 and plan to be out here well. she said this stems from not just this incident but a history of racial profiling here at this store. we will try to talk to the people who own gibson's and get more on their side of the story. this is what we are seeing in downtown oberlin right now. getting answers, shelby miller, cleveland 19 news. >> romona: let's go to cincinnati where an officer is on trial. after three days of

judge they can't reach a verdict in the murder trial of ray tensing. he is the white former police officer who fatally shot sam dubose during a traffic stop last year. dubose is a black man who did not have a weapon. the judge told them to keep deliberating and did not grant the defense's request for a mistrial. akron police are investigating a suspected murder-suicide. they found a 22-year-old man and -y gunshot wounds to the head both inside an apartment on druid walk in the park lane manor apartments. police say they had no prior calls there. we are still waiting to learn the names of the people who died. >> always watching. always tracking. now your first alert forecast. >> mark: had some whipping winds out there today. take a look at that. saw gusts 30, 35 at one point

it is still windy especially along the lakeshore right now. that was a big front that came through. not much rain. we got a few showers with it. and then some, you know, that was a little lake-effect moisture. right now, though, the temperatures continue to drop. in fact, we are down to 45. we had 43 at 7:00 by 9:00, 41. eventually, the wind will be dying down especially later on tonigh see the bigger drop in temperature. mansfield down to 42. we will be well in the 30s. if not upper 20s out there tonight. a sun-filled weekend ahead and chilly one tomorrow night and the next seven days no big systems on the way. details later on in the half hour. >> romona: protests are taking place across the country. some people are upset with

oregon confronted thousands of protestors in what police called a riot. they arrested more than two dozen demonstrators. breaking news. these are some live pictures happening now of more protests. this is happening in new york city right there in front of trump tower. we will keep an eye on these pictures and make sure they do not become violent. if they do, we will go back to them. there were more protests today in o western reserve university. the radical student union held what they called an anti-trump protests in regard to recent protests. the president-elect tweeted he loves the fact that the small groups have passion for our great country. donald trump spent most of the day working out of trump tower. vice president-elect mike pence is heading up the transition team and lead the team that

administration. >> mark: we are getting new answers about the armed robberies near case western reserve university. police now tell us they arrested a total of 10 suspects. there have been at least 7 armed robberies since october 28th. and campus increased patrols at night and early morning hours. the university added more shuttles to the university routes to cut wait times in half. >> troopers in lorain county gave us this picture. they stopped a driver for following too close 13 pounds of marijuana. the michigan driver is locked up. last month we took you on a ride along looking for drug suspects. the federal government added lorain county as a high intensity drug trafficking area making it eligible for grant money to fight the war on drugs. >> romona: summit county authorities arrested wanda starcher targeting the same victim twice. first she took social security money from a woman with disabilities and starcher was sentenced to community control

during that time, investigators say starcher withdrew money from the same victim's bank account. now to much needed smiles after a terrible tragedy. a wellington 2-year-old visited some of the rescue crew who saved his life. jaxon and his cousin fell into a pool at a home day care last month. his cousin annie died. jaxon spent weeks at rainbow babies and children's hospital recovering. t tribute to our veteran's on this veteran's day. >> mark: harry boomer back from brook park where they dedicated a bridge there. harry. >> harry: mark and romona, only a small part of america joined volunteer military. but for those who do, owe them a great debt of gratitude. today the city of brook park stepped up to honor our veteran's. a special dedication by those and for those dedicated to

foreign and domestic on this veteran's day. 30 permanent flags stand guard on the former snow road bridge. veteran's memorial bridge. the american flag, the u.s. army flag and flags of the navy, air force, marines, coast guard and prisoners of war missing in action, p.o.w.-m.i.a. flags take their places marking the service of the men and women of the military. politicians stood at the foot of the bridge to signal their support and pride in america and all she stands for. >> in addition to the flags, signs will soon be posted honoring the five branches of the u.s. military. >> mark: all right, harry, thank you very much. >> romona: we owe them a huge

live from cleveland's newscenter driven by don joseph toyota in kent, this is cleveland 19 news. >> romona: tonight we hear from a hero, a veteran sharing his >> mark: bob served in world war ii and spoke with shanice dunning with us. >> reporter: when pearl harbor was bombed he was drafted into the army. his service took him around the world and almost cost him his life after he was wounded. now those memories are reminders for a day we honor service. during a veteran's day ceremony and lunch in westlake each veteran wore a red flower and

cost of american freedom. it is a special day for the retired army staff sergeant surrounded by his family. during his time serving in world war ii he says he was lucky to make it back home to them. >> we saw it being bombed by our bombers. >> he was drafted in 1942. he served three years and the african middle east, normandy and fought in the battle of the bulge, one of the large bloodiest ballotses fought by u.s. soldiers during world war ii. >> they were good guys. brave. >> reporter: while in france he suffered wounds in six places >> that's where the captain and i and many others got hurt, wounded. oh, there's a lot of them killed. >> reporter: he received several medals for his service including

surprise, a proclamation that today is named after him. >> i really don't deserve it. >> reporter: he will humbley tell you there are others like him that deserve the recognition and he hopes people remember their sacrifice often and not just today. >> we should think more about our veteran's and not forget about them. >> reporter: he was very humble. he barely wanted to accept that award and veteran's affairs and volunteering after he left the service. something to think about and remember them. >> mark: you never know who they are. thank you, shanice. romona? >> romona: the fabulous food show is underway at the i-x center. it celebrates all things food and drink and always packed with celebrity chefs. jen picciano is there with one of our favorites.
