12:17 pm
>> the pam spray exploded which caused the stove to explode. then i felt the flames hit my face. >> reporter: so let's talk turkey safety. no matter how distracted you are this holiday, experts say when in the kitchen, always pay attention. unattended cooking is the leading cause of house fires. never douse a cooking fire with water or flour. instead, this firefighter placed another pan on top of their to extinguish the flames. and if you like to deep fry your turkey, make sure it's away from your house. don't put it on a porch or in a garage. the turkey should be defrosted and patted dry. do not overfill the oil and make sure to check the temperature frequently. the golden rule, say experts, never walk away while you are cooking. >> tia: well, evelyn spent a month in the hospital and had to
12:18 pm
also say you should keep surfaces free from grease buildup and keep flammable items like pot holders and paper towels away from stoves and also ovens. >> emergency rooms see a lot of turkey day traumas every single year so we have tips to help you avoid a recipe for disaster. if you do get cut, rinse it under cold water, apply pressure and wrap it in gauze or a bandage. if the bleeding doesn't stop or the cut is deep, go to the e.r. if you get burned, soak the in cool water. don't ice it. that could damage the skin. never put butter or oil on the burn. if a burn goes all the way around a finger or hand or is on the face, you need to get to a doctor. >> samantha: all right, time now 18 after and we are tracking more rain coming in from our west and southwest. those of you out in elyria down to the south and west already seeing showers.
12:19 pm
and you'll notice that at the front edge there is a little pink and purple popping up indicating that we might be seeing some mixed precipitation. we have had a few reports of sleet and gropple late this morning and early this afternoon. as the shield of rain approaches the eastern edge of our forecast region, be aware that initially it may come down as a little sleet or gropple. temperatures are warming up so don't expect any travel is it's just the light rain you need to watch out for. it's already inching through cuyahoga county. heads up if you are in portage, geauga, trumbull, ashtabula and lake counties. get ready because a little light rain is on the way for you. i'm sure a lot of you are doing exactly what i'll be doing after this newscast and that is going to the store to pick up my turkey and a few last-minute things. so if you will be out there with me, this is what you can expect. scattered showers for the rest
12:20 pm
rain on you constantly every minute or every second. but there will be occasional rain showers around and temperatures hold steady. right around the upper 30s and lower 40s for the rest of the afternoon. in fact, they are going to stay there all night. really aren't going to drop much, if at all this evening. our evening planner showing you that rain is likely tonight. i think we could see a few batches of steady rain overnight. especially after sunset. so, any plans that you have tonight or if you have family coming in and t to make it until late tonight, let 'em know that they will be driving into some rain. is that rain going to stick around for thanksgiving? i think in the morning some of you could have to deal with a little rain. if you aren't going anywhere today, maybe you are just going from cleveland to akron tomorrow morning, be aware that this is what you might be driving through. i've stopped the forecast model at 7:00 in the morning. and there's probably going to be a little rain around at that point. even through 9:00, we could see
12:21 pm
but, by late morning and into the afternoon, things look better for us. we will keep the clouds, but no steady rain into the afternoon. i think any rain that we see after late morning probably will be more along the lines of drizzle. unfortunately that does not do it for the holiday weekend. we got more rain chances to talk about. the now, i have made a change to your seven-day if you were watching this morning. this is brand-new information. the rain that we had in there for friday during the day, i to i think any rain that comes in now on friday will probably be at night. this is good news for black friday shoppers because you only got two arms. so you can only carry so many sale items and an umbrella. right? so i don't think you will need the umbrella on black friday. but guys, wintry mix still looks like a good bet on saturday morning. so, if family hasn't left yet and they are on their way, tell 'em to pack warm waterproof clothessing. >> tia: i'm thinking cyber monday already.
12:22 pm
may as well just take it to cyber monday. >> brian: stay in the house on the computer. i'm all over cyber monday. hey browns quarterback robert griffen iii returning to practice today. how about this. he suffered a broken bone in his left shoulder during the season opener. that was way back in september on this play right there. the browns now have 21 days to activate r.g.3 or he must remain on i.r. for the remainder of the season. >> tia: well during holiday shoppi something for a better price after you already bought it. well, you can still get that deal. laura demaria takes us through the rules of price matching. >> laura: holiday shopping is on and that means a lot of you are going to be looking for the best price. well we want to tell you about the price-match policies at a lot of the big retailers. we will start off with target. now, they do price match but make sure here that when you do the price matching that you find that you are matching the online identical item or the local print ad identical item.
12:23 pm
they will match at the time of purchase or within 14 days after purchase. now, toys-r-us, they will also price match. but what's different here is they will match at the time of purchase or within seven days of that purchase date. they will not match competitors' buy one get one offers or gift with purchase items. so big big fact to keep in mind there. next up, we have wal-mart. wal-mart is going to be slammed. that's arguably the biggest retailer. they will price match her make sure you have the item at the lower price that's online. this does not apply to clearance, special buy, value of the day or deep dis counts like thanksgiving, black friday or cyber monday. that's where we are right now. got to keep that one in mind. and then last but not least, your electronic super store here, best buy. best buy will match at the time of sale. they will match all local retail competitors. that includes places like amazon and they will match best buy.com
12:24 pm
during your return and exchange period, they will also match that lower price. now make sure you understand these, you can check these out. they are all online before you go to the store and try to purchase an item and think you will be able to get the lower price later on. i'm laura demaria, cleveland 19. >> brian: all right, laura. thanks so much. well, some of you are looking for the hottest tea of the holiday season. >> tia: we have one we are giving away. you can enter to win on our news app. we will announce the winner
