>> we can prove to you that the suspect was by himself in the vehicle and committed this act by himself today. it it's an ongoing investigation to determine motive and this act. >> brian: good afternoon. cleveland 19 news learning more about the victims and the suspect in the attack at o.s.u. we have live team coverage on the attack at o.s.u. in just a moment. but first, a big story here at home. strong winds did a lot of damage overnight in northeast ohio. denise zarella takes a tour of some of that damage. >> it was like quarter after 1:00, i heard boom! i'm like oh, my gosh what was that.

heard steps away from her front door. the wall of this abandoned building blown over by strong winds. >> we looked out the window, didn't see nothing. come down a little bit further, the whole building was gone. i was like oh, my god, look at all this. i'm glad nobody was hurt. hope there's no animals in there, too. >> reporter: now that the sun has come up we can get a better look at what happened. there are bricks all over the place but it appears that what happened is a wall that was part of this old building came hi now see that it took down with it, it looks like, a lot of electrical wire was. and in between those bricks. on the other side of town along kinsman at east 73rd, more wind damage. the facade on st. teresa holiness science church now in pieces on the ground. the trail of damage continued along east 9th where cleveland police say a construction wire snapped, shattering glass that ended up in the street. crews spent a few hours cleaning

artery into the city. just in time for rush hour. asking questions and getting answers in cleveland, denise zarella, cleveland 19. >> brian: high winds took out plenty of power lines. several schools were canceled today due to a lack of electricity. let'scheck in with our meteorologist sam roberts. it appears we are done with the high winds but it was nasty. >> samantha: it was windy. we had a recorded wind gust at burke lake front airport, 53 miles an hour. so that can certainly do some damage buildings, smaller outbuildings, things like that, and of course power outages. let's take a look at some of our other wind gusts. 46 miles an hour in lorain. brook park 45 miles an hour and about 41 miles an hour out in ashtabula. you might have heard it, last night might have woken you up and we had heavy rain as well. winds have backed off, sustained out of the south and west anywhere from about five up to 15 miles an hour with some 20

but is it because of those gusty southwest winds that it's so warm outside. 59 right now in cleveland and we are not done yet. we got a lot of sunshine out there. so, with that wind and the sunshine, i think by 2:00 we get up to about 64. we will go 65 for a high and that will be at about 4:00. so, really incredible weather, duff, for this time of the year. back to you. >> brian: all right, sam. we will check back with you again. we learning more right now about the 11 hospitalized after attack at the ohio state university. tia ewing is on campus. she's been working now asking questions about the victims of this attack. tia, what have you learned now in the past couple of hours? >> tia: well brian, we've learned the actual status of the victims in this attack. let's show you and get to the numbers so you understand who we are talking about. at ohio state wexner medical center, two patients remain in fair condition.

center all three patients were released. and at riverside methodist, two remain in fair condition. the hospitals won't tell us if they are students, faculty or just passer byes in the neighborhood at the time of this incident. now let's talk about what we do know about the dead suspect. the f.b.i. is zeroing in on abdul razak ali artan who was a somali refugee. he spent seven years in a refugee camp in pakistan with six family members. arta m ohio. that was in 2014. he first attended community college in columbus where he graduated on the dean's list. then, he enrolled here at the ohio state university majoring in logistics management and the business school. now, this august, artan was interviewed by the campus newspaper, the lantern. he complained about what he believed was the media's negative portrail of muslims and in that article, this is exactly part of what he said. i wanted to pray in open he was

scared with everything going on in the media. people look at me, a muslim, praying. i don't know what they are going to think. what is going to happen. now then there's a statement that a lot of people find disturbing. that was allegedly posted on his facebook page and that statement reads in part -- i am sick and tired of seeing my fellow muslim brothers and sisters being killed and tortured everywhere. a lot of questions still if this is a terrorist attack. what i can tell you is classes are back in session here at the ohio state university a me as well and she continues our team coverage on exactly how students are feeling here as they head back into the classroom. sia? >> sia: yes, thank you, tia. as students head back to class today after yesterday's attack, there are mixed feelings about getting back into a routine. some students i spoke with said they need a few days while others are saying they're not ready to let this stop their stroll. now just after 8:00 a.m. this

filing on to campus. for many, it was the first time back since monday when that attack took place. several students paused in front of watts hall near 19th and college. it is where everything started. some told me they will never look at that area the same again. >> i feel fine. it's unfortunate something like this happened yesterday, but, i mean, stuff happens. it's just -- this is what happens. can't really do anything about it to be honest. where it all went down yesterday. little scary. but, they handled it really well yesterday. >> reporter: do you feel like it's too soon to go back it class? >> yesterday i did, it was kind of scary because yesterday i walked past here again. it was kind of scary doing the same thing around the same time right now. but it's, it's ok. >> sia: now there's a lot going on around campus, but later on

in the staff. but the board evidently has not agreeded to that proposal but still the teachers decided to return to the classroom in hopes of sparking negotiations. teachers and students will return to school tomorrow. no word on how many of the teachers may be let go as part of that reduction in force. at least six people survived a plane crash overnight in colombia. 76 people died. the charter plane was carrying a brazilian soccer team and more than 20 journalists to a hanna daniels with the latest. >> reporter: colombia rescue crews worked in the dark using flashlights in the heavy rain and mountainous terrain. the few survivors pulled from last night's wreckage were rushed to nearby hospitals. as daylight came, scenes from the crash show the damaged fuselage, debris, and workers carrying bodies of victims up the hill side. more than 80 people were on board the charter plane including a first division

sao palo before the flight took off. the club was scheduled to play tomorrow after reaching the finals of a major south american soccer competition for the first time. journalist carl wartswick covers south american soccer. >> to be torn down from that perch after all they've done is, is harrowing, it's heartbreaking, it's -- i think it's going to take a long time for football to digest. >> the plane was five minutes when the crew declared an electrical emergency. radar imagery shows the final moments as it circled over an area in central colombia before disappearing. the tragedy is hitting people in brazil especially hard. the team from the small city of chapaco was in the middle of a fairy tale season. the brazilian government has declared three days of mourning.

>> brian: welcome back. president-elect donald trump is meeting with mitt romney again today. trump's aides remain divided by possibly ant secretary of state. meanwhile, trump spokesman says representative tom price will be the nominee for health and human services secretary. his top mission evidently will be to fix the so-called obamacare laws. and president-elect trump tweets that anyone who burns an american flag should face consequences. suggesting jail time or deportation. but -- the supreme court ruled in 1969 that flag burning is protected by the first

>> brian: welcome back. the holiday shopping season in full swing of course. according to one survey, the iphone is at the top of the piper jafres holiday spending survey ranked it as the most desired gift followed by a mac book and an x-box. fit bits and hover boards saw a drop in popularity. it's projected that there were record sales on cyber monday. but protecting all those online payments can be a challenge. jon blackstone got a tour of pay pal's command center to see how it protects us from cyber crooks.

technology operations. >> this is pay pal's command center where purchases are monitored around the world and around the clock. it's cyber monday and the team is monitoring a tonight of financial activity in 100 currencies and in over 200 countries. >> mission control it looks like. >> it is. exactly. it is my favorite place. >> m.j. austin is a technology executive at pay pal. a human staring at a screen gets a notice hey you better checkup on this, this looks fishy? >> that's what happens. there's a bunch of smarts behind the actual monitoring. through that monitoring, we are able to highlight only those things that seem unusual but the volume makes it a daunting task. pay pal processed $25,000 a second. so much traffic pay pal's website crashed. >> we had a couple of small, intermittent outages during that

customers were not at all impacted. >> pay pal was also one of the companies that shut down last month after hackers struck a companys who servers route internet traffic. the hack also infiltrated devices like web-cams, smart clocks and digital recorders. c-netted tore at large tim stevens. >> it's like a lot of attackers knocking at the door to the bank. they aren't necessarily getting into the bank but they are preventing anybody else from getting into the bank. so it's not necessarily a question of datang or data being at risk, it's just service is shut down. >> pay pal says nothings to stolen. still, stevens wonders about the future. >> as more and more of these smart devices are going forward, they are going to be compromised in new ways. >> well good afternoon to you. it is 12:19 on this tuesday. it's been beautiful outside.

graphics this morning if you were watching, had like a tropical twist because it's so gorgeous outside we have our little sand family with santa hats on. mid 60s. 20 degrees above average. really close to a record high. the record for today is 67 and we have blustery southwest winds so it would not surprise me if we got there in cleveland but we have to keep a close watch on it. either way, the forecast for afternoon, 62 at 1:00. 65 at 3:00 and we will drop to about 63 by 5:00. a few clouds around throughout the day. we have been in and out of those clouds. started off overcast. but a little more sunshine breaking out now. we will become mostly cloudy going into tonight. no significant rain in the forecast. no gusty winds like we had overnight. just a little breezy with that increase in cloud cover and then there's this little about 20%

pop-up shower or two after 10:00 and very mild as well. we stay in the 50s all night. so, when you wake up tomorrow morning, it's going to be warm. just like it was this morning. i want to take you through tomorrow's forecast. gorgeous weather we are enjoying right now. it won't hang around forever. we cloud up tomorrow. this is 7:00 in the morning and there could be a few scattered showers around during the day. i don't think it's going to be a i don't think it will rain on you constantly every second or every minute. but there will be scattered showers around throughout the day and of course the increase in cloud cover. it's also going to be a little cooler tomorrow. highs only around 62. so, cooler than today. but still running way above average. and you got to enjoy it while it lasts because, look what's coming. tomorrow, of course, the last day of november. watch what happens on december
