top five this morning.... elias: the u-s-d-a has awarded a contract to an ames company to begin stockpiling a vaccine for the avian influenza... harris-vaccines received a six- million dollar contract for producing 48 million doses of the vaccine over a two-year period. it is the only company to receive a contract.. this year alone, the illness impacted almost 32-million birds here in iowa. amanda: in the number two spot this morning... amanda: a lawusit in wisconsin could have a major impact on gun control in the u-s... a jury has found a gun store liable for the sale of a weapon used to shoot two milwaukee police officers. the suit claimed the sale was approved despite a number of irregularities....i ncluding the buyer being underage. the store has been ordered to pay six million dollars to the officers, but is appealing the decision. elias: the third thing you need to know before you walk out the door... elias: fifteen members

of a pro- confederate flag group have been indicted by a georgia grand jury. the indictment claims the group violated georgia's street gang terrorism and prevention act and made terroristic threats. in july, they drove around a community while displaying the flag, even stopping near a home having a child's birthday party. the group then clashed with people at the party. amanda: number four... amanda: don't expect any campaign stops by republican presidential candidate ben carson....his campaign says carson will put public campaign events on hold for two more weeks... during that time he will take part in a book tour and catch up on fundraising events. carson's camp has been careful to separate campaign events from the book tour. the candidate does have book signing events scheduled for iowa later this month. elias: and finally in the top five... elias: second district representative dave loebsack is looking to revamp the funding system to benefit rural schools in iowa. loebsack says it's important to create a system that creates tax incentives to get the top teachers to work in rural districts. other elements

in the plan include expanding access to grants for digital and after school opportunities. amanda:: more witnesses for the prosecution are expected today in the pete polson trial .... police say last november, polson terrorized a pleasant hill neighborhood, shooting at three people, seriously injuring two. yesterday, more neighbors, pleasant hill officers and d-c-i agents took the stand. amanda: some told the jury they spotted the same green ford explorer driving out of their neighborhoods on november 17th... .including the third shooting victim matthew stephenson- who was nearly shot twice.. he said he hid behind his truck, watching as polson shot several more times before driving away. at that time i couldnt believe someone tried to kill me, they werent playing, they tried to kill me, had no idea what was going on" amanda: two iowa state patrol troopers

polson also took the stand...showing the court "never before seen" dashcam video of polson's arrest. both saying he didnt seem to be under the influence of any drug. " walk back toward the trooper, dont look at him. get down on your knees get your hands up!" amanda: special agents that searched polson's home also testified, say they found different amounts of marijuana and other drug paraphanila associated with meth use. local five will have more from the trial throughout today. elias: more details from the murder investigation of a metro grandmother... 79-year-old rachel pray was found beaten to night... her laprei... neighbors say to door covered for help...then went to a nearby station. elias: this surveillance video is from inside that git- and-go where police
