at a zombie themed street festival. a man was killed and five others wounded in fort myers sunday night sending revellers dressed as the walking dead screaming and running for their lives. >>ing about four or five shots at the same time. >> we started running becau we saw hoard of people running and heard two really loud bangsing. > 20,000 people had gathered for the event. the man killed has been identified as tyrel taylor, a local college football player. so far, there have been no arrests and no word on possible motive. >> for the sixth time this football season, a high school is mourning the death of a play. a 16-year-old junior from alto, texas, collapsed during a game on friday. on saturday the community returned to the stadium in his honor. ron claiborne has the story. >> reporter: in tribute and in grief, family and friends, classmates and teammates circlcled the football field where cameron mattheus collapsed moments after r telling e coach he didn't feel right. he was airlifted to a nearby hospital.

he died the next day. >> so many people gathering here, it's very fitting, at the football stadium, where he spent so much of his time. >> reporter: just weeks into the fall football season, mattheus is now the sixth player to die. although it's not yet confirmed his death isootball related. since 2005, the deaths of 36 high school football players have been attributed to on f field injuries. two weeks ago, 17-year-old kenny i died days after sustaining a head injury in a game in seattle. an autopsy concluded he died of blunt force trauma. catastrophic head injuries occur much more frequently at the high school level. one theory why -- few high schools have the sideline medical staff that college and pro teams do. >> they're still not getting the same medical care that the average college player is getting. >> reporter: with two more months of high school football, to play, the concern the likelihood there will only be more injured. ron claiborne, abc news, new york.

latest. >> reporter: gunfire at a bus station in southern israel. an armed palestinian killing one israeli soldier and wounding almost a dozen others before being shot and killed. a foreign bystander was shot, brutally beaten and reportedly died of his wounds. it's the latest in two weeks of lone wolf attacks and growing clashes which israel accuses palestinian leaders of inciting. this has become a daily theme, almost, in the west bank. palestinians say it's motivated by israeli infringement at the holy al aqsa mosquand young anger erupting over israel's occupation. inerusalem, the city that israel calls its undivided capital, the divisions, physical and emotional, are growing between its residents. this wall went up just a short time ago here in this palestinian neighborhood, adding to the roadblocks that already surround it. measures that the israeli police

look a lot like winter. the weather is changing on us fast. just lt week, near syracuse, new york. this is what it looked like. a week later, this. >> i woke up this morning and i thout it was christmas. >> reporter: it may be october. but the coldest air mass of the season has already swept from the midwest into parts of the east. across upstate new york, a blast of winter brging dangerous conditions. more than 50 accidents in syracuse blamed, in part, on icy roads. snow collecting on this backyard deck. nine inches so far. another backyard buried under the snow. kids aren't complaing. >> i have not seen snow this early in a long time. >> reporter: the snow also falling early in parts of upper michigan. but in grand rapids, just plain cold. temps in the mid 30s didn't stop these dedicated marathon runners. >> it's good weather to run in.. this is great weather to run in. >> reporter: thousands of runners taking the cold weather in stride. forecasters say despite the

sides later on this week. and in syria, a top al qaeda commander has been killed in a u.s. zone strike. sanafi al nazr was the head of a supersecret al qaeda cell that plotted attacks in the u.s. and europe. he was also involved in the group's finances. the landmark and controversial nuclear deal with iran is in effect. it could be months before the crippling sanctions are lifted on iran. iran has to prove to international inspectors that it's serious about cutting back on its nuclear program. even so, the iranian vice president says his country is bracing for a tsunami of tourism once the sanctions are gone. a minnesota town is mourning a sheriff's deputy who was killed with his own gun when a hospitalized suspect grabbed it. police? police in st. cloud say the suspect got out of his hospital bed and struggled with the deputy before shooting him. hospital security officers tased the patient. he later died. police say the suspect was not

mourners returned to the stadium for a vigil saturday night. a couple from texas is telling their harrowing story of survival exclusively to abc news. as they narrowly escaped a fiery airplane crash. they were coming in for a landing in their small plane. this is just south of dallas. when something wasn't right. they were able to deploy a huge parachute which covers the entire aircraft. >> i thought there was something wrong with the plane. i was trying to control it. next moment, i saw the line. i realized, i went up to grab the handle for the parachute, but, my wife had already pulled it. parachute defifinitely sed our lives. >> wow. the parachute caught on power lines and prevented the airplane from ever making contact. the couple, by the way, can't wait to get back in the air with a new plane, equipped with a parachute, of course. re from an exclusive interview on "good morning america" today. >> what an ordeal. in california, a little girl is safe and back with her family
