elias: christina williamson has pleaded guilty to two counts of child endangerment. williamson, who ran a daycare out of her home, was arrested back in may after her husband secretly recorded her abusing children in her care. she is free on bond for now until her sentencing in december. sabrina: the third thing you need to know before you walk out the door... sabrina: the state of texas has cut off medicaid funding to planned parenthood clinics. the move comes after undercover videos released by the anti- abortion group center for medical progress, which alleges the videos show that planned parenthood illegally sold fetal tissue for profit planned parenthood denies the allegations. elias: number four... elias: here in iowa, governor branstad wants to privatize medicaid. a plan that has some asking how it would benefit iowans. under the umbrella of medicaid, is a program called hawk-i. it's an option for families who need insurance for their kids. the iowa attorney general is looking at whether the governor

overstepped when he made the decision to privatize hawk-i without approval from the board. sabrina: and finally in the top five... sabrina: if you own a drone.. the rules are about to change a whole lot. federal regulators plan to start registering both commercial and hobbyist drones. a department of transportation task force will start registrations as soon as this holiday season. officials say the idea is to create a "culture of accountability" to keep up with the skyrocketing popularity of drones. elias: an internal investigation has cleared a des moines cop of any wrongdoing in a june officer- involved shooting... elias: a grand jury found no reason to press charges in august...and now the department has also cleared senior police officer vanessa miller,, during a routine traffic stop, another vehicle pulled up to the officers car, blocking the sqaud car's doors. the driver of that car got out was acting erractically,

car failed to stop at the intersection, then hit the bus as it was traveling east. following impact, the bus rolled trapping one of the riders inside of the vehicle. first responders were able to get everyone out. three people had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance...a fourth was transported by helicotper. " when you're dealing with buses or big vehicles, you deal with more injuries," wolfgram said. elias: a new case of the emerald ash borer to report this morning...now in linn county. elias: elias: this makes the 29th county in iowa to have a confirmed report of the invasive insect. a state agricultural official found an infestation of the bug at a rest stop along interstate 380, about a half-mile north of the linn county-johnson county line. the emerald ash borer kills ash trees by feeding on their inner bark, disrupting the flow of water and nutrients. tree

elias: a coach who also teaches has been fired after beeing accused of inappropriately sleeping next to a student. elias: kyle ewinger was fired on thursday, after the superintendent bill walked in on him sleeping next to an elementary student in his middle school social studies classroom. ewinger is the head football studies teacher ocheyedan (oh- chee'-duhn).. but some say the what it seems. during last night's school board meeting, ewinger said this student is more he says they got back late from an away football game and the student's grandmother's house was classroom.

christina williamson was arrested back in may after her husband secretly recorded her abusing children in her care. in exchange for pleading guilty to the two counts of child endangerment .... one a felony and the other a misdeamonor ... other charges were dropped. "i handled the children roughly. i handled a-n roughly. i handled nr roughly to the point where one was crying and you could tell there might have been potential injury. sabrina: williamson is free on bond for now until her sentencing in december. sabrina: local five will be keeping a close eye on any possible developments in the polson case today... sabrina: the jury will return for further deliberations this morning... prosecutors say polson went on a shooting spree in pleasant hill last november, seriously injuring two people and nearly missing a third. he faces three attempted murder charges on top of other drug and weapons charges. polson himself took the stand,

telling the jury he doesnt remember anything from the shooting until police arrested him look for the latest here on local 5. elias: nitrates in iowa's waterways has been a major concern this year...even leading to a lawsuit filed by des moines water works.. the suit names three iowa counties...claimin g they're to blame for nitrates in the raccoon river. the trial isn't expected to begin until august of next year... but the issue of nitrates in the water had lead to a discussion on farming tactics and possible ways to cut them from getting into the water supply... sabrina: right now the main concern for most iowa farmers....harves ting their crops from the field. but some farmers still have some plants growing in the field this fall. elias: they're called cover crops....and deborah souverain explains how these crops help keep soil healthy. explains how

" "most crops are...dried out around this type of year. but you'll see nothing but green on john wilcox's correctionville farm. natpop -- john pulling up radishes. john plants cover crops during the fall....to promote healthier soil. "soil has a lot of phosphorus and potassium and our crops, soybeans and corn, have a difficult time extracting those from soil. but he says cover crops help. this year..he's testing out radishes and field peas. tillage radish and field peas have an easier time getting it out of the soil. so they absorb it into the plant..and when they die they release it back out and then the soybean and the corn can get the nutrient easier now because it's in a more organic form," said john cover crops increase the number of organisms living in the soil. it also reduces erosion..and cuts the amount of nitrates that leak into ground water. and those aren't the only benefits john has reaped. "i saw pretty close to a five bushel increase on my soybeans where we did it," said wilcox, plants cover crops. john says it cost him about 25 dollars per acre...to plant the crops using a crop duster.

but farmers can get financial assistance.
