elias: two teenagers are recovering from a saturday shooting outside of a mcdonald's in ankeny. 18 year olds nicholas culver and justin (phong-sav-von) phongsavanh suffered gunshot wounds to their arms after a dispute over poor behavior at the restaurant. 36 year old gabriel coco turned himself in to police following the incident. sabrina: in the number two spot this morning... sabrina: remnants of hurricane patricia, combined with a powerful storm system, continue to dump heavy rain across the gulf coast. the severe weather brought more heavy rain overnight, with flash flood watches remaining in effect in parts of five states. the rainfall has broken records in texas, with some areas able to measure the water in feet. elias: the third thing you need to know before you walk out the door... elias: there are new charges against the driver accused of plowing into a crowd of people at oklahoma state university's homecoming

parade on saturday. the 25-year-old will appear in court today....facing four counts of second-degree murder. a memorial has sprung up near where the three adults and one child died in saturday's crash. sabrina: number four... sabrina: the metro became the center of presidential politics for the democratic party, as the annual jefferson jackson dinner welcomed the three major candidates. but this will be the last year the event is know by that name...the party is currently taking submissions for a new name. they're hoping to have something in place by early spring. elias: and finally in the top five... elias: during the weekend...multipl e blocks on 12th street have been converted into two way traffic. city officials say one of the biggest benefits of the conversion is increasing traffic to local businesses. they say after people punch out for the day, they'd still like them to stay in the downtown area. sabrina:

sabrina: a death investigation continues this morning in benton county... sabrina: authorities found the body of a 26-year-old female sunday afternoon... a trail of blood lead to the discovery of the body at 59th street trail the iowa state patrol confirms that this is a homicide investigation. the benton county sheriff's department and the iowa department of criminal investigation are actively working on the case. the iowa department of public safety is expected to release more details today. elias: new this morning, the final recommendation s from a state- legislature created education task force will be released.... elias: the final recommendation s from the secondary career and technical education task force will be released later this morning. the task force was established by the legislature in 2013. it has been looking at ways to reduce skill shortages in the work force and ensuring students have access to competitive careers and education programs. during the meeting, their final recommendation s will be approved. elias: also new this

monring...the second annual senior life conference will draw hundreds of iowa seniors and caregivers to the metro. cure" was at water works park. the ride was pulled by an antique tractor with specially made pink tires. this is the first year of the event and they raised more than two thousand dollars. "it's amazing when we started this project the people that come up to you and how cancer has touched their lives you can't talk to anybody that hasn't been in contact with it it's been a great project " elias: donations collected from the ride will go to the john stoddard cancer center in des moines. sabrina: runners laced up to help fight crime in story county sunday... crime in story county sunday... story county crime stoppers hosted its first ever five- k...called "running down crime." the race looped runners and walkers around ada hayden heritage park in north ames. money from participants goes towards reducing crime and enhancing the story county area... the money helps continue the

morning iowa in hd. we are iowa." sabrina on your money now sabrina with the average american expected to spend around eight hundred dollars on gifts this holiday season...paying with plastic may be a way to keep from having to fork over a lot at one time... but experts are warning consumers that some of the plastic in their wallets could be costing them in the long run. a new report by creditcards dot com says average store credit card carries a 23 percent interest rate... compare that to a 15 percent rate, on average, for all credit cards. the retailers with the highest rates includ staples with 28 percent and zales jewelers at 29 percent. financial experts say consumers should only sign up for retail store credit cards if they pay off their

two teenagers are recovering after they were shot outside of a mcdonald's. sabrina: a des moines man is accused of shooting two young men after a dispute over poor behavior at the restaurant. it happened saturday night at the restaurant on southwest state street in ankeny. police found 18 year olds nicholas culver and justin (phong-sav-von) phongsavanh with gunshot wounds to their arms. they were taken to a des moines hospital... culver has been released, while phongsavanh is still in serious but stable.. condition. after the shooting... 36 year old gabriel coco turned himself in to police, he was released from the polk county jail, but faces two felony counts of willful injury. elias: a big change for pedestrians in downtown des moines over the weekend.... multiple blocks on 12th street have been converted into two way traffic. finishing touches were applied to the stretch from

(nats) "we got the boat over there." emergency crews going in with boats and humvees to reach stranded residents. a close call for the more than 70 rescued south of dallas. this man and his dog pulled from their flooded truck. another man... stuck when he waded in to find his submerged vehicle. (sot) i just stood there and watched my vehicle slowly disappear. when flood waters derailed this freight train... the two people on board swam to safety... but a cow needed some help getting back on solid ground. in san antonio, rescuers managed to reach a man who was swept more than a mile through a storm drain. sabrina: turning to news from your local election headquarters this morning...a new sign goes up to call on cadidates to embrace clean energy... sabrina: today, iowa businesses, community leaders, and more will call on candidates to do more to move the country toward renewable energy. climate parents, a clean energy advocacy organization...wi ll unveil a new billboard near the airport at noon. their message...clear energy equals healthy kids. they hope the positioning and message gets the attention of candidates as they pass throught the metro to campaign. elias: iowa became the mainstage for the democratic presidential candidates over the weekend...as they attended the jefferson jackson dinner. hillary clinton, bernie sanders, and martin o'malley all showed up to hy-vee hall. o'malley all showed up to hy-vee hall. it's the state's largest gathering of democrats.

more than six thousand people filled the event... each candidate had their own special sections of supporters with lights, and signs and their own chants... elias: now this will be the last year for the jefferson- jackson dinner..at least in name... for next year's dinner.. the party is working to get a name that's more in tune with its current political ideals. thomas jefferson and andrew jackson were both slave owners, and that's caused many within the party to question whether that's the best name for the dinner. instead, they're hoping to decide on a name that signals iowa. " what won't change about the dinner no matter it's name is the type of energy that's right here behind me. there are so many enthusiastic democrats here right now who are passionate about getting democrats elected up and down the ballot next november. that's not going to change.
