and world series champs. the royals beating the metets in another early morning finish. the highlights and the celebrations. well, good monday morning. we begin with the search for answers after a russian passenger jet fell from the sky in egypt, killing everyone on board. >> a grim scene this morning as the bodies of many of the victims begin arriving i in st. petersburg, russia. flown back and loaded on to trucks. >> investigators say the plane broke apart mimidair. it's too soon to tell if it was a tragic accident or a deliberate act. we get the latest from lana zak. >> reporter: this morning, the remains of more than 140 bodies are returning to grief-stricken families in st. petersrsburg, russia. among the 224 dead, 25 children.

these photos show happy famies ready to make their way home from a vacation in the resort town of sharm el sheikh, egypt. today, authorities are digging deeper into the mystery of what brought down the plane just 23 minutes after takeoff. >> this happened so quickly. so instantaneously, there may not be evidedence on t black boxes. so what will be more important will be looking at the wreckage on the ground. how it's laid out. >> reporter: with eight miles of scattered debris, one theory, a bomb >> the probability here is with an in-flight breakup that something caused that. somethin on the order of a bomb or an incendiary explosion of some sort on the plane. >> reporter: another theory, human error or a problem with the plane. the ex-wife of the co-pilot said he had complained about the air bus 321, including on the rning of the crash. and a final theory, could terrorists on the ground have taken out the plane? an isis-linked group claimed responsibility. but intelligence officials say they lack the misses that could take out a plane flying at

may be whether bush remains a viable candidate. nine days and countingntil the next debate. and on the democratic side, bernie sanders is releasing the first tv ad of his campaign. he spent $2 million for air time inowa and new hampshire for the spot that highlights his journey from brooklyn to the u.s. senate. it depicts sanders as a long-timfighter against injustice and inequality. it mentions his opposition to the iraq war and his battle with wall street. a powerful line of storms taking aim at southeast this morning. after taking on water-logged texas. thdeath toll in the lone star state's flood disaster is up to six. after another round of violent storms over the weekend, some part of houston got nearly a foot of rain since friday. inundating homes. sweeping away cars. triggeringng more th 130 high-water rescues. those powerful storms also spawned tornadoes. nearly a dozen from texas to mississippi. with six twisters reported in south and east of houston.

after a string of small earthquakes. the first quake was a magnitude 3.2 tremor, striking around 9:00 last night near black canyon city. two slightly stronger quakes struck before midnight, 4.1 and 4.0. no reports of injuries or any damage. a one-time presidential candidate who was almost larger than life is being remembered this morning. former tennessee republican senator fred thompson has died from a recurrence of lymphoma. thompson's career spanned from washington to hollywood and back. serving eight years in the senate. appearing in "law & order" and at least 20 motion pictures, including "in the line of fire" and "the hunt for red october." the former senator was 73 years old. pope francis is planning a trip to o mexico. church officials say the pontiff will visit in february. he's expected to address the violence plaguing mexico. but so the issue of migration. that's a theme he touched on

states in september. francis, you'll remember is from argentina. this will be his fouourth tripo the americas since becoming pope. the kansas city royals are the new world series champions. the royals, scoreless in game five, until the ninth inning. but then the breakaway took place in the 12th to defeat the new york mets, 7-2. >> the jubilant team celebrating their first world series win in three decades. they'll celebrate again on tuesday with parade through the streets of kansas city. what a night for those folks. >> and their fans. >> minutes after the royals' win, merchandise hit the m market. >> yes, fanatics started selling royals champs ar. including a shirt that reads party like it's 1985. that's the last time they won the world series. more highlights coming up from espn. of course, it's kind of ironic that the royals won this in queens. but for mets fans, i believe,

and sent at least one man to e hospital with significant burns. he's expected to survive. no word on the cause of that exosion. encouraging news in the search for the black box from the cargo ship "el faro." wreckage believed to be the ship looks to be upright on the ocean oor. the wreckage was found over the week end by the navy. the black box is critical the finding out why the giant went down. 33 crew members died when the ship sank during hurricane joaquiuin. that was earlier last month. the e. coli outbreak at chipotle in washington state and oreg is expected to widen. chipotle has shut down all restaurants in both states after nearly two dozen people became six. eight of them seriously. the outbreak mt likely came from a fresh food product and not a sick individual. doctors encourage anyone who ate at t those stos and got sick to be tested. halloween scared people away from theaters. it was the lowest grossing weekend of the year at the box office.

this sinkhole near tampa, flida, is getting bigger this morning. the nearly 3foot-wide hole may swallow a nearby building. since friday, three homes have been evacuated. authorities have put up fencing as you can see, and have added patrols to keep people out. it's about a mile from a sinkhole that swallowed a man back in 2013. now for a look at your morning road conditions. flooding across the northeast into virginia. roads wet up and down the california coast. across nevada and idaho. and up into the upper midwest. if you're flying, airport delays possisible in aanta, charlotte, san francisco, as well as salt lake city. three victims of an apparent random shooting spree in colorado springs are being mourned. >> witnesses describe the scene

lloween morning as the gunman began walking the streets. the first to be killed was a man on a bicycle. then two women were hit. this woman saw the horror unfold and called 911. >> it was pretty scary. he looked right at me. i was li, okay. i started walking away. i said, oh, please don't shoot me. >> police are looking for a motive. but they say the gunman made an angry blog post in the days before the shooting. he wro against religion, the government, and his father. frightening moments for a michigan police officer all caught on dash camera. he was trying g to give e driver a ticket for a suspended license when the pair began to struggle. the driver then jumped in her car and wch what happens. slamming it in reverse. taking the cop along with her. he, by the way, we're told, physically okay. back on the job. the driver is facing several serious charges as a result of that. meantime in orange county, california, a vicious attack on an uber cab driver.

police say an apparently intoxicated passenger, 32-year-old benjami golden, punched and pulled the hair of the driver before the driver pepper-sprayed him. golden was arrested at t the scene. the driver ss he's looking for gnaw job because he doesn't feel safe driving for uber. a disturbing find in the meantime for trick-or-treaters in pennsylvania. several kids found sewing needles in their halween candy. the needles were found in candy bars collected from kennett square. no reports of anyone getting hurt. time for sports. the royals are world series champs, beatini theets in another nail-biter. >> yes. let's get highlights from our guys at espn. hey, there, good morning. jay harris, john buccigross. big sunday in sports. lots of nfl. first, we have a world series champion. >> the kansas city royals. down, 2-1.
