pretty nice day on tap, but like yesterday we are probably going to have to wait until the afternoon before the sun comes out and brings the warmth. we are likely to have some morning clouds and patchy fog similar to yesterday, but as we get closer to lunch the clouds should roll back and we'll warm back up. highs today should be able to climb to around 72 degrees here in the metro with lows this evening falling into the upper 50s across the state. thursday is looking mostly cloudy with a few isolated morning showers, but most of the rain will come through in the late afternoon through the evening. friday we are going to fall back into the low 50s, and we will probably stay in the 50s through the weekend. next week a big system will be trying to pull through the state bringing not only a bit of rain, but also a wintry mix and maybe light snow! sabrina: let's get into the top five this morning.... sabrina: the family of a special needs student who was wrestled to the ground by a school bus driver last week has broken their silence. ninth grader christian suarez was grabbed by the driver, 61 year old robert scarbrough, and shoved to the ground. he faces assault charges. the suarez family says they will wait till after the school district investigation to decide if they want to sue. elias: in the number two spot this morning... elias: looking at yesterday's election

results.... with more than 80-percent of the vote, des moines mayor frank cownie has won a third term in office. and in windsor heights, the top two vote getters were threase harms and zachary bales-henry for the two at-large seats on the city council. bales-henry becomes the first latino to serve on the city council. for links to your county auditor's website and results from around the state head to our website, that's we are iowa dot com. sabrina: elias: the third thing you need to know before you walk out the door... sabrina: a congressional investigation shows the pentagon paid dozens of professional sports teams to support the troops. now, some members of congress are looking to ban the practice of what they call "paying for patriotism." the investigation showed 53- million in taxpayer dollars have been spent on sponsoring these events. elias: number four... elias: a memorial that sparked national controversy will move after veterans day. the kneeling soldier memorial mysteriously showed up, without permission months ago in youngs park in

knoxville. the knoxvilles city council voted to move the memorial to private property. local veterans said they're happy the memorial is here to stay. sabrina: elias: and finally in the top five... sabrina: and college football fans got their first look at the playoff rankings last night... and making the top ten....the iowa hawkeyes.. the undefeated team comes in at number nine...with clemson at number one. keep in mind last year, only one team in the initial top four actually made it to the playoffs at the end of the season....so still a chance for iowa to climb! elias: new this morning...the iowa d-c-i investigating a waterloo investigating a waterloo officer involved shooting. elias: a man is being treated for injuries after being involved in a shootout with waterloo police while attempting to escape by car. police attempted to stop 24-year- old brandon seeley around three tuesday afternoon.. seeley, who had an arrest warrant, drove at one of the officers, that's

an update now on a student with special needs who was wrestled to the ground by a school bus driver last week. elias: the student and his family are breaking their silence. the whole incident was caught on video. it started when 9th grader christian suarez wouldn't sit his assigned seat. the bus driver grabs him by the ear and shoves him to the ground after suarez throws a book at him and makes a profane comment. christian says he threw the book because he was afraid of the bus driver once he pulled over to confront him. the 15 year old suffers from brain seizures and has the functioning level of a third grader. "i was mad, angry, scared. some person comes and touched your own family. it

the results are in for local elections here in iowa. elias: iowa voters headed to the polls for a number of elections across the state.. sabrina: with the exception of a few special elections, most of races were for city council or mayor. and one of the biggest races here in the metro, was the des moines mayoral race. frank cownie gets a third term after taking more than 80 percent of the vote in his race against...27- year-old anthony taylor. elias: in the city council races.... chris coleman is the new city council at large representative. beating loren esse. in the des moines ward 2 race, linda westergaard got 71 percent of the vote to beat marty mauk. and joe gatto ran unopposed in the ward 4 race .
