amanda: they all wanted for the official for the bakken project.. people were allowed to iowa utilities board all sharing their thoughts about the project that would cut diagnolly across the state.. the room was packed with people-- some there to speak, listen. some had concerns: environmental, land ownership. were very passionate, one guy was even musical. " the vast majority of landowners affected by this support the to use the land. perry. koch brohters. they win. we lose. people and planet loses. there are those that argue that jobs will be created by the pipeline for other temproary and will provide work until the think it's important to two year project will high paying high skill jobs. pipeline pipeline just say no. dirty oil

"construction workers are used the the temporary work, a pipeline project would mean a gaurenteed paycheck for a decent amount of time." "when a family gets that, when they are in the construction it helps the kids and the spouces because the kids see their parents leave home to go to work and not come home once a month, every weekend. you know, whenver time is allowing depending on how far they are amanda: the pipeline decision now remains in the hands of the iowa utilities board.. these three people seen here. thursday was the only day that comment on the issue directly to them. on monday, the process continues with an evidentiary hearing. after that, the three member board can have a meeting to discuss their decision or they can just send out a written notice. there is no time table for when that has to happen. amanda meteorologist sam schrier joins us again with a look at your forecast. sam

continue today on the area hit by wednesday's severe weather. amanda: the national weather service has now confirmed five twisters touched down in iowa. it tore up farms and other buildings and flipped vehicles on roads. here's a look at where they hit.... an ef-2 near plano-- that was the strongest two ef-one knoxville and in and an ef-0 in guthrie county and at the des moines airport, amanda: governor terry branstad and amanda: governor terry branstad and iowa homeland security and emergency management director mark thursday surveying the damage in knoxville. the walmart walked around neighborhoods to get a first- hand look on all the damage. knoxville had storms with winds up to 110 miles per hour. there was one

injury reported in this storm. amanda: meanwhile, the weather observers in des moines who reported seeing a tornado at the airport wednesday are in danger of losing their jobs. these guys are at the airport 24/7 gathering all sorts of data while keeping their eyes on the skies. this is a crucial job while air traffic controllers communicate with pilots on the runways. but they say the f-a-a wants to replace them with computers to cut costs. the job could also be added on to the duties of the controllers. ""we see that as very problematic because the controllers are there to control the planes and they're already busy enough." " amanda: according to travers ... the f- a-a made a similar move two years ago when they decided to cut observers from 14 airports. they backed out quickly because the data wasn't as thorough. he hopes they take that experience into consideration. amanda: thursday marked ten years since history was made when 12 tornadoes touched down across iowa- one of the largest and latest

outbreaks on record. an e-f 3 made a diagonal path through the town of stratford- home to around 800 people. a decade later, those people are looking back. local 5's claire powell has their story. " wind, color of the sky, temp was different" "lots of time, with wild weather horses get crazy, but they never even bothered" on saturday november 12th, 2005, an ef3 tornado barreled down on the town of stratford. "she knew something was wrong, i was standing in the driveway waiting when she got there" in the middle of it all- dorris andersen rushed to pick up her grandson steven as the tornado took aim. "should i stop? i didn't. had i stopped i wouldn't be here" "debris all over, it was hard to get through town" as it passed, firemens radios rattled. "got there and got paged to go to driden street, lucille runyan place" larry runyan - lucilles son- was on the department. with one look, he knew. "we seen, looked to north, what used to be

there" lucille was gone. "lucille was mother of 9 kids, most right here sifting through what they can" (old footage) "i think we lost 23 homes so, it was tough" as nights turned into days, firefighters started organizing incoming volunteers in school notebooks. "just amazing the outpouring of help, schools came from webster city " notebooks they have to this day. "send up bus loads of kids, cleaning up, kids, kids" debris was found miles away and in some cases months later. "canceled check, from my dad from someone in mason city...." now 10 years have passed. the town, almost entirely rebuilt. one of the only empty lots, is lucilles. "time just seems like its been forever, but 10 years is too quick" everywhere. some tucked in garages. "thats it right there, old pick up" some etched in the city park (lucilles bench)

" "this is the beginning of a real dialogue. it's just something we've been trying to figure out how to get on the table." wichita state university president john bardo hosting a forum on diversity after recent events both on the local and national level. john bardo wsu president "national events that are going on gave us that opening to put it on the table. so what we're going to do now is to sift through everything we've been told. we're going to work through it as an executive teams." it was standing room only after 250 students, faculty, and community members

the quick thinking hero stopping an alleged kidnpapping. abc's tj holmes is here with that " this morning - an alleged kidnapping, stopped thanks to a philadelphia convenience store clerk might not realize anything's wrong here ... but what you're seeing is an alleged crime in progress. police say the man in this surveillance video abducted the woman who's with him...and was taking her around town to a-t-m's, forcing her to withdraw money. but this morning, she's safe ...all thanks to manveer komer - who sensed something was wrong the moment the walked in his store police say the woman was carjacked early wednesday morning by a man claiming to have a weapon. a short time later, they're seen on surveillance video pulling into the parking lot of a gas station in her car and walking into the store. the suspect gives a friendly wave to the clerk when he enters before they head to the a-t-m. unable to withdraw cash, the two go the counter where the suspect uses the woman's credit card to buy cigarettes ... but watch what happens next. the clerk comes from behind the counter and stops the woman at the door, physically putting himself between her and the suspect -- and tells her not to leave. [sot] "you come behind my back. i help you. no problem." the clerk confronts the suspect who you see reach into his
