elias: good morning iowa! i'm ???. it's x:00 a-m on wednesday november 18th thanks for joining us! elias: good to have everyone with us! and it's great to have central iowa's most accurate forecast with meterologist sam schreier! hey sam! sam: (sam adlibs) sam (sam adlibs) sam: weather adlib: after two very rainy and gloomy days, we try out best to break the trend today but i don't think we're going to have much success. mostly cloudy, cold, and wet skies are the primary weather conditions expected through the afternoon today. rainfall today will be very scattered and light, so if we do see any showers they will leave very little rain accumulation and they should primarily slide through the state during the afternoon. temperatures today are going to be steady and cold with our official high temp
5:01 am
afternoon high of around 52 degrees. it's possible early this evening as temperatures fall quickly we could see a brief rain/snow mix to even a few flakes fall in western iowa, but nothing will accumulate and it would not be long lasting. thursday is going to be sunny, but very windy and cold with highs in the mid 40s and wind gusts up to 45 mph. friday there is still a very good chance for snow in the afternoon to early evening. right now it looks like it will start as a wintry mix and turn into snow fairly quickly into the afternoon. snow accumulations should be on the lighter side with ground temperatures being as low as they are, but i still think in grassy areas we will see a general collection between 1 and 3 inches with a few isolated areas able to get 4 inches. the weekend looks pretty dry for everyone but cold weather slides into place with highs in the 30s saturday and sunday. elias: let's get into the top five this morning.... elias: the director of the iowa
5:02 am
international center says despite governor branstad calling for a halt in taking in syrian refugees, the center would still be happy to help them. the director also says the united nations and federal government are in control of allowing refugees into the country. elias: in the number two spot this morning... elias: republican presidential candidate bobby jindal is dropping out of the race. jindal says now is not the time to run, but did say he will support the party's nominee. he was set to host several events in central iowa throughout the rest of this week. those have been cancelled. elias: the third thing you need to know before you walk out the door... elias: a plane headed from los angeles to paris was diverted to salt lake city on tuesday after a bomb threat was called in from the ground. the plane landed safely, and passengers were bussed to a terminal. shortly after, another plane hedaed for paris was diverted to an airport in halifax, nova scotia. it's unknown if both incidents were related.

elias: number four... elias: french police launched a raid in a suburb of paris overnight in hopes to track down suspects of friday's attacks in the capitol. the suspects were thought to be hiding out in an apartment in the northern suburb, and a shooting broke out during the raid. three people were killed and another five have been arrested. elias: and finally in the top five... elias: and it turns out that morning cup of joe could reduce the risk of death. a new study out showed that people who drink coffee daily, even up to four cups a day, are less likely to die from a number of diseases, including heart disease and type 2 diabetes. elias: well it's not even thanksgiving yet.... but apparently there's a grinch in central iowa. apparently there's a grinch in central iowa. vandals hit the festival of lights display that's in the

process of being set up in dayton. it happened sometime saturday night after volunteers had finished setting up for the day. police are looking for who's responsible. but it's what the community is doing now that's got people talking. local 5's nikki davidson has more. (we just got these up friday) finding someone that like holiday lights more than beverly jondle... wouldn't be easy... last year dayton didn't have a festival of lights... so she decided to do something about it. 11:16:44 i just didn't want to see it die, i wanna keep it going... and beyond what most the last five weekends day and night... to make sure the community would have it's festival of lights. (i just wanted it to happen...so) she left saturday night...and came back completely wooden figurines (these were over 30 lighted reindeer beheaded...

(actually heres a candy cane here) she says the worst part is most of this stuff was donated... and has sentimental value 11:22:03 i have no idea why people would want to bust things up like they did. but this isn't going to be where this story ends... since word spread about the vandalism... jondle says shes' gotten eighty phone calls from people wanting to help 11:20:27 its totally great, it warms my heart up. they're donating new decorations... their time...and money... all to make sure come the day after thanksgiving... this place will be looking even better than before. 11:22:17 its still going on, no matter what it will still happen. elias: we're back with meterologist sam schreier... sam: (sam adlibs)
