5 news at 10 in hd .webrad/wx wall weather adlib: the snow storm has arrived in central iowa as the winter storm warning continues into the night. snow will continue to fall and accumulate into the evening hours with heavy snow possible in parts of central iowa from 3 pm to 8 pm . after this, the snow will start to taper off from west to east and finally end shortly after midnight for much of central iowa. most areas in central and northern iowa will see more than 6" of snow with some locations getting more than 8" possibly. lower amounts are expected in southern counties because of warmer temps and some rain mixing in. cold winds will increase later tonight causing some blowing snow, so traveling will remain very attempted to brave the storm tonight--you know it's bad out there. in fact, the dot is saying it's better to just stay home.

difficult into the overnight hours. ne winds of 15-25+ will also cause wind chills to drop into the 10s by saturday morning. the weekend will be dry but very cold. highs saturday will stay in the 20s. sunday will start out with our coldest readings yet this season in the 10s and then struggle to get above freezing in the afternoon. we will warm up next week, but more rain is likely by wednesday afternoon and especially for thanksgiving when i think it could be a very rainy day. at least it is easier to drive in rain, right? colder air will follow by friday and next weekend, but now you're going to have to watch where you park your car tonight. several metro cities have a snow ordinance in place. in des moines, you'll get a ticket if you park on snow routes. other cities with emergency parking bans include grimes, pella, norwalk, waukee, knoxville, ames, west des moines and bondurant. stephanie: with snow on the roads, accidents are inevitable. tonight our crews were driving back from ames on i-35

and saw this. cars all along the interstate, in the ditch. this is just more evidence that if you plan on driving during this storm, you need to play it safe. stephanie in rural dallas county, a car not only went into the ditch, but they wound up in a creek rescue crews were called out highway 6 and r avenue. there's no word yet on the condition of the driver and if there were any passengers. stay with local 5 for the latest on this accident. jack/otsl crews will be working through the night to get the snow out of kinnick stadium for tomorrow's 11 a.m. hawkeyes kickoff. more than 60- thousand people are expected tomorrow. not a capacity crowd, but close to it. and the game kicks off just a few hours after the snow is finally expected to taper off in eastern iowa. crews will be working all night to get as much snow as possible out of the stadium as it falls. but they say fans should still expect snow around their seats. steve roe ui director of athletic communications (

will be a little more difficult, if we get the significant amount of snow fall there will probably be snow in the stadium, but our staff will do their best and have the aisles and the concourse as clean as best as possible. one event persevered. stephanie/ram tonight was the big holiday promenade for the east village. there were some minor changes because of snow, but the big question was...is anyone going to show up? we talked to one shop owner in the east village for her thoughts on the turnout. "i think it's going to be a blast, i think people will enjoy trekking out in the snow." and she was right! despite the messy roads and heavy snowfall ... lots of people braved the conditions for the holiday promenade. this is the 14th year for the east village celebration. organizers did have to make a change because of the storm though ... the horse-drawn trolley was unable to make it for safety reasons. jack/otsl with all this snow, one event that isn't cancelled is the 37th annual off- road race at living history farms. runners were picking up their packets tonight. there are no changes to the schedule, but snow may mean some switch-ups to the course. "i don't think it'll be as cold as it was 2 years ago. i think this is a bonus, you get the snow, you get the water, you get the

some places getting more than a foot. that was the case for parts of our viewing area like wright, webster and story counties. jacob/dmc jack, stephanie...i spent my day trying to catch the storm at its very beginning stages. so, that meant heading up to clarion. clarion is in the midst of that thickest snows. you can see on this map all these areas that are in blue are "no tow." that means if you car gets stuck, they won't be able to pick it up until that ban is lifted. all of the main interstates are in orange, which means it's not a interstates are in orange, which means it's not a good idea to take them. for crews like this one, it meant making multiple for crews like this one, it meant making multiple them.

well this winter weather has me in the mood for some hockey. the iowa wild are home this weekend-- to face lake erie-- the wild trying snap a 7 game losing streak. first period iowa's leland irving keeps the score equal at 0-0 7:09 into the first with the big save at the top of the crease 2nd period though lake erie's jaime sifers just over a minute into the second, puts the monsters up 1-0. but the wild not going quietly grayson downing picks up his own rebound wraps it around and stuff the buscuit in the basket evens up the score 1-1. but the wild fall tonight 3-2 at home. jon: the dowling maroon's bid to make history as the first team to ever three-peat as class 4a football champions is on hold until monday. the announcement came-- and surprised a lot of guys on the team. now coach tom wilson will have to keep his kids focused on cedar rapids kennedy a few extra days-- something he's not worried about. facebook news so we were all a little disappointed but i think it'll be good for us. it's really tough obviously we're disappointed but we'll support what the athletic association thought was best and there's nothing we can control about it so we just kind of move on and do what's best for our team to get ready for monday. having another day of practice everyone is kind of excited and we get more time to play and stuff like that so everyone is getting excited because we get to practice in the gym obviously we try to control the things we can control we've got a job to do we're going to try and do the best we can and i think the kids will come through with that and understand that we're just trying to get them prepared and we got a job to do. it's disappointing but it'll give us another three days to prepare for that cedar rapids kennedy team and i think it'll just benefit us that much more now we just get to relax and see how it goes now that we've got a couple of extra days of practice we just get to relax go through plays just make sure we have the
