locally comes out of ames. elias: it's hard to pinpoint exactly where things went wrong for paul rhoads, but it may have started in 20-13... he certainly had some big wins in his time in ames, but ultimately it was the games he lost and how he lost them that sealed his fate. "2013 was a frustrating one for rhoads. a home opening loss to fcs opponent uni, was followed by a loss to iowa. then in what looked like a turnaround game for the cyclones ended in heartbreak.
5:31 am
a 31-30 loss to texas, which turned on this controversial play. rhoads let his feeling be known after the game. "and to make a play on the one yard line with their backs against the wall, clear to everybody and have it taken away from them, that's hard to express." iowa state would go on to lose 9 of its first 10 games before winning two straight for a disappointing 3-9 year. in what was supposed to be a better year, 2014 started off disasterous. another loss to an fcs opponent in north dakota state was followed by a loss to kansas state where the cyclones were shutout in the 2nd half, falling 32-28. the game that may have saved paul rhoads was a 20-17 win over iowa. cole netton kicked the game winner as the cyclones made it 3 wins over the hawkeyes in 4 years. after that, iowa state would finish the season 1-8, going 0-9 in the big 12. this season was a little better, but the cyclones still couldn't turn it
5:32 am
around rhoads record to this point is not especially pretty, 32-54, 16-44 in the big 12 and just 4-28 against ranked opponents. but perhaps nothing sums up paul rhoads more than what his former player jeff woody had to say... "he's genuine, i mean that's who he is. he is that impassioned, determined, outspoken guy who's got his players backs. i mean he's that guy. he's made a lot of very good men out of some pretty dumb kids, that turned out to be great human beings. he cares about winning and losing obviously because that's his job, but the thing that he cares about the most is how can i turn this kid into a great young man. and he's done that time after time after time and if his legacy goes down as losing games, but turning out great people he'd be fine with that. so he's a guy that loves his players and loves making young men, men and that's i think the biggest takeaway from what coach rhoads did at iowa state."
5:33 am
"but the guy who has the ultimate say, said it best in an interview with us earlier this year..." "in the end it is a business and we need to be successful and success is going to be determined a lot by what happens with the football program. at the same time you have to remember our recipe and our recipe is about our people and we have a football coach that represents this institution extremely well, that our fans have clearly shown, far greater than any other coach we've had, that they're willing to engage and support. for that reason i believe paul's the right person and we're going to give him every opportunity, but at the end of the day he knows it, i know it, our fans know it, you have to win, or win at some level in order to keep feeding that beast." elias: twitter was flooded with

flooded with thoughts from current iowa state players as current iowa state players as well as some distinguished alums. former bulls forward marcus fizer had this to say..."hate to see anyone lose their job." currentrunning back michael warren also said..."i'm thankful for the opportunity he gave me to play at this level." sabrina coming up on good morning iowa... elias: a group of ames high school students didn't let the snowy weather prevent them from surpassing one of their goals for this thanksgiving holiday. sabrina: but before we go...as you get ready to start your day...be safe out on the roads.... des moines police will have mobile radar set up at two locations... one at the ....4100 block of woodland w/b and a second at the....3000 block of easter lake dr. e/b so use caution while driving..
