kattey? kattey: jack ... he's a horse that is so good with kids ... they can command him just by using their voice. the family only had 'buddy' for a week before he went missing the night before friday's snowstorm. tonight they're hoping anyone who may have seen him might get them closer to bringing him home. it was a big day when 8 year old 'buddy' became a part of denise carroll's family. "everybody came running out of the house when we pulled in with the trailer" she'd been looking for a therapy horse ever since her family lost theirs to cancer two years ago. she got a big break when she reached out online. "he was donated from a lady in arkansas who had him since he was a yearling and did all of his training." all was well in the barn until the kids went to feed him friday morning. "they usually come right up and are ready for their grain and the three horses came up and there was no buddy." everyone searched for hours covering a three mile radius but found nothing. it was a heartbreaking blow to denise, who loves using therapy horses to help children. "my husband and i have done foster care for about 20 years, we've had a lot of children come through our home." including a lot of kids with special needs. she's adopted nine as her own, like jonathan. "it's good to know the fact that we have these things and to give these kids a chance to ride horses, to give them a chance at this moment in time where they can be happy and do what they want." "horses are so therapeutic for

children. when you have a child who's life is so out of control and there's so many different things going on and you get them in touch with an animal that they can trust and bond with" which is why buddy is not just any horse ... but a big help to someone who already dedicates their life to helping others. "there's kids that go through rough times and it's good to see them smile." kattey: buddy was last seen at their farm between newton and colfax, south of i-80. if you think you may have seen buddy or might know where he is, you're asked

(56:14) this young man dreams of a career in computer programming... this club brings him one step closer to that goal. 24:55 "it's not the legos that help me do that but the programming on the computers and the robotics that help me learn to grasp the idea" whatever their reason for being here...for building... ann echelmeyer hopes all her students take away one of life's most rewarding lessons. capital. jack: the paris attacks have started a conversation about whether or not syrian refugees should be allowed into the u-s. in iowa, no syrian refugees have ever resettled here, according to the department of human services. but tonight, a group wants to make sure iowa's doors are open to them in the future. they protested governor branstad's order to stop all state agencies from working on resettling syrian refugees. they disagree with how the governor handled the situation. samantha 10:37 why do we have someone in office doing these things? why can't he be more like governor ray who encouraged refugees, opened doors to those great people. jack: the group hopes mr. branstad will reconsider his decision and possibly make some time to meet with them and listen to their concerns. stephanie: pope francis says this year's christmas will be - quote - "a charade". he said holiday celebrations stand at odds with the fact that, in his words, "the whole world is at war". the pope spoke

and the college football playoff are all still in play for the iowa hawkeyes! who would've imagined this, this time last season!? one man maybe... alex giaimo has more. "(alex giaimo) what a difference a year makes. last season at this time, the hawkeyes were an underachieving team and people were calling for kirk ferentz's job. now the head coach has his team playing championship caliber football and his doubters? well they're now believers. (kirk ferentz) we've tried to look forward and that's what we've encouraged our players to do back in january and i've said this many times, you know, if you are going to be able to compete as a player or as a coach you better be able to take the heat as well as all the other stuff that comes that comes with winning. (giaimo) so what how does ferentz compare the state of his program to that of the national perceptions entering the season? (kirk ferentz) i've said it before im not big on national perception or anybody's perception because you know, other than there's a handle of teams every year, you can go out and say these guys are going to be pretty good probably but to me that's the college football afterwards you just never know who's going to do what and what's going to materialize etc. (giaimo) and and as far as impressing the cfp playoff comittee the

head coach says he doesn't think to much about it. (kirk ferentz) we try not to get to bogges down about it just like the college football playoff rankings that have been going on a couple weeks now. right now they really don't mean a lot it's really about the competition and what's going on the field. (alex giaimo) ferentz and his hawkeyes have already tied for the most wins in season in iowa history. they'll be looking to add another in lincoln on black friday. with your hawkeye headquarters report, i'm alex giaimo. " jordan/fullscreen well right now, the rankings like iowa! the hawkeyes are in the top 4 in the latest rankings. if the playoffs began today, iowa would play clemson! bama still 2, oklahoma up to 3. michigan state right behind iowa at 5. notre dame falls out of the top 4 to 6. baylor is 7th. ohio state falls to 8th. stanford and michigan round out the top 10... friday's heroes'

game between the hawks and huskers kicks off at 2:30 and can be seen right here on local 5 and don't forget we have you covered before and after the heroes game. thursday at 630, we'll have a 30 minute special on the heroes game where we take a look at the history of the rivalry and more. then on friday morning at 10 am, a full hour long pregame special including reports from lincoln... then as soon as the game is over, join us for local 5 news where we'll recap either a historic win for iowa, or historic upset for nebraska. jordan/bam: monday night, dowling catholic etched its name into state football history. the maroons became the only 4a team ever win a three peat. and they did it in pretty dominating fashion, thanks to their front 7. the maroons defensive studs helped combine for 5 tackles for loss including 3 sacks for a total of 38 yards! they also got two fumble returns for touchdowns from d-linemen atlias bell and ryan mells! i asked coach tom wilson before the game what dowling had to do to win, he said control the line of scrimmage. mission accomplished. "they really did what they've done all year.
10:25 pm
i think that back is really good. beyer is one of the better players i think i've seen in a while. i don't know what people are waiting on. i think nebraska's offered him recently, that kid's a good player and he's gonna be a great player in college and so just really proud we could at least limit him a little bit." the maroons will now turn their focus to a 4 peat as the dowling dynasty appears well on its way! the maroons do lose another big senior class including linebacker ross otte and both qb's in kurt walding and jt brown. but we saw how they did replacing a qb this year. and when you return a guy like jacob zachary who was unstoppable here, plus all but one player that scored a td last night, don't bet against dowling next year! jordan/3shot we'll be right back... you're watching local five news at 10.
