toledo blade, toledo did make a last ditch offer to campbell which would've made him the highest paid coach in the mac. missouri also reportedly made a play for campbell, but in the end isu won out. campbell will reunite with running backs coach lou ayeni who coached with campbell in toledo and originially recruited mike warren to the rockets. many experts are calling this a home run hire for iowa state... jordan/fs athletic director jamie pollard had this to say about campbell in a statment today: "matt's coaching and playing achievements are extraordinary, but we were even more impressed by his character, leadership and commitment to his family... pollard went on to say..."we are truly blessed to have one of the industry's rising stars lead our football program." fs campbell also released a statement today saying, "i couldn't be more excited to receive the opportunity to coach at iowa state. two years ago after we played the cyclones in ames, i called my wife and said you simpy would not believe this place... fs "their fans, the game-day environment and facilites are all incredible. i could see us living in ames and me coaching the cyclones some day. my family and i are truly humbled."

our very own cy-hawk analyst jeff woody says a guy like campbell appears to be a perfect fit for the cyclones... "so i really like the hire. hes a guy that likes to run the football. toledo's been in the top 25 in rushing the past two seasons. another think i really like about campbel is that he's not a conventional recruiter, where he does have a system that he wants to recruit guys to, but he's also not opposed to taking transfers, he's not opposed to taking juco guys, and at iowa state you can't play the same game that ou and texas and thososguys are playing, you gotta do it a little differently. so i think the writing's on the wall that this is a good hire, but we're not 100% sure yet." jordan/fs taking a look at campbell's bio. he's originally from football crazed massilon ohio and played at d-3 power mount union in ohio, winning 3 national titles as a player and two more as a coach. when hired by toledo in 20-11 he was the youngest head coach in fbs. he led the rockets to a 35- 15 record, 3 bowls, two bowl wins and two mid-american
