and 27-year-old tashfeen malik...both dead after a shootout with police. investigators say the shooters targeted a workshop and training event sabrina: in the number two spot this morning... sabrina: the latest on monday's double homicide in des moines...the victims, bryon howard and heather belieu. a criminal complaint accuses michael wanchanic of shooting the couple multiple times. even while belieu held her eight- month-old infant. wanchanic was taken into custody tuesday night after a standoff with police. he has been charged with two counts of first degree murder. elias: the third thing you need to know before you walk out the door... elias: following a lengthy debate, british parliament has authorized air strikes against islamic state targets in syria, with the first air strikes carried out this morning. the target, an oil field in the eastern part of syria. the attack comes after france asked the u.s.- led coalition to bump up the military offensive against isis. sabrina:

number four... sabrina: the state of texas has taken further steps to block syrian refugees from being resettled in the lone star state. texas leaders have sued the u-s government to block six refugees from from resettlement in dallas this week. the move comes after a non- profit said it would place refugees in the state while ignoring objections by the governor of texas. elias: and finally in the top five... elias: retail chain target has agreed to a 39- million dollar settlement with several u-s banks following the massive data breach that affected roughly 40- million customers. banks lost millions when they had to reimburse customers who false charges on accounts following the 20-13 hack of target's database. sabrina: new this morning...a higher tuition bill coming to students at the university of iowa. sabrina: the iowa board of regents approved a three-percent bump in tuition during their meeting wednesday. undergraduate resident students at the university will see the increase at the start of

are following the latest developments in wednesdays mass shooting at an office building in california... elias: both suspects believed to be involved in the shooting are dead according to police.. sabrina: and overnight they released the identities of the pair, who they say are responsible for killing 14 people. abc's lauren lyster is has the latest. "lauren lyster intro: those two suspects have been identified as 28-year old syed rizwan farook and 27- year-old tashfeen malik. authorities say they do not know the motive at this point and are not ruling out terrorism. and though both suspects are dead investigators remain on scene and on alert script: nats - shooting it ended much as it began - with a barrage of gunfire? captured on this cell phone video. nats - my house is getting shot at right now. four hours of terror in san bernardino? after gunmen stormed an office building killing 14 people. the final

in take a look at this today... elias: a city error turned into a big mistake in portland....on the city's leaf removal day. the 'no parking' signs were up, the tow trucks and parking enforcement were on the streets, but there were no tickets given out. some people still raced out of their apartments to move their cars. what they didn't know was that tow truck drivers had already moved the cars and then put them back. the city had apparently sent out an incorrect notification...givi ng the wrong date for removal. all: (reax)

we are leaning more about the events surrounding monday's double homicide in des moines...and the search for the suspect in the case... elias: the arrest of michael wanchanic came after a four- hour standoff with police tuesday night... someone spotted wanchanic at a

gas station in woodward. when police approached him, he took off in a stolen van. but the van broke down leaving wanchanic stranded. police say wanchanic eventually got cold and surrendered. now in criminal complaints we're learning more about what exactly happened to the two victims bryon howard and heather belieu. elias: local 5's claire powell walks us through the report. as monday's scene unfolded - you can see a confused step brother and roommate of michael wanchanic sitting next to the crime scene. he told local 5 news- off camera- wanchanic had been living with him, his stepmother, howard, belieu and their two children and was battling depression.. he said wanchanic was struggling with the one year anniversary of his fathers death when he shot and killed bryon howard and heather belieu. "probably wont make any sense to us" according to a criminal complaint filed wednesday morning, wanchanic "willfully, deliberately killed the victims by shooting

them multiple times." killing belieu while she held her 8 month old infant in her arms "children apparently in the home, theyll be taken to the hospital but are ok" thats when police say wanchanic hid the murder weapon in his room - grabbed a 9 mm and stole the victims van- leaving for slater. "we'll need to find mr wanchanic to get his side and how thatll help us and figure out what happened" 24 hours later, this was the scene. seen here in newly released dallas county sheriff dash cam video- wanchanic hiding in the broken down van on highway 141-- waving the handgun around threatening suicide. "had the vehicle lit, crawling around his van doing a lot of stuff,we could see the gun alot " after a four hour stand off- wanchanic said he was cold and you see him finally surrendering to police and deputies without any fight at all... elias: wanchanic has been charged with two counts of first degree murder... he'll be in court this morning look for more on this story

throughout the day here on local five. sabrina: meanwhile, family members are still in shock, and still grieving, after monday's unthinkable crime inside their home. and the house that bryon howard and heather belieu lived in...still has other tennants. one of bryon's best friends for 14 years lives there with his mother. while he's still not ready to go on camera, he says he and his mom are having a hard time even going downstairs, and are trying to figure out what to do with the bed that they were found on. meanwhile, family members are still trying to determine how they'll pay for funeral expenses. they have set up a go fund me page....the funeral services for howard and belieu are scheduled for saturday. elias: turning to national headlines this morning... elias: police have released the identities of the two suspected shooters who opened fire in california office building on wednesday.. the couple 28-year old syed rizwan farook and 27-year-old

leaders don't argue that there has definitely been a surge in crime. their main focus now is how to stop it before it happens. once city council member admits the recent drive bys and killings have him keeping an extra eye out. he says this is a result of a change in times and easy access to guns. 21:23:33 people are solving issues different than 30 years ago, now they just shoot each other. elias: moore doesn't think the majority of the crimes in des moines have been gang related. he says it's a combonation of domestic violence... and young kids with too much time on their hands. sabrina: a western iowa farmer is recovering after losing four thousand hogs in a fire. sabrina: the blaze happened in wellman late tuesday night. the controller at brenneman pork says he got a call that a hog building was on fire. luckily, no one was inside at the time. the building is considered a total loss. elias: at ((time check))
