the major candidates for the 20-16 presidential race will be making campaign stops in the hawkeye state. and one candidate will also be getting a major endorsement in just a little bit. amanda: u.s. labor secretary tom perez will endorse hillary clinton, which will be seen as a sting to opponent martin oh-malley. the former maryland governor helped launch perez's career by appointing him as secretary of the maryland department of labor, licensing and regulation in 2007. amanda/lam perez joins clinton at her campaign events in sioux city and fort dodge today. her event in sioux city is set to kick off in a few minutes -- reporter lukas voss is out there live. lukas, what's the latest? lukas voss hillary clinton is making another sweep through iowa. i'm at the carpenters training center in sioux city. it's no coincidence that the clinton campaign picked this location take vo labor secretary tom

today to make his official endorsment for the former secretary of state. in a statement released yesterday perez touted clinton's progressive record and described her as a fighter. take fullscreen he said clinton is tough, smart and understands the challenges that parents are talking about around the dinner table. back on camera lukas now, it hasn't been all good news for clinton. a quinnipiac university poll released this week showed those taking the poll found senator bernie sanders more electable than clinton against several top republican candidates. good news for the sanders campaign, but in that same poll clinton still held a sizeable lead over sanders as the likely democratic nominee. will be the only democrat in iowa this weekend.... but the majority of the republican field will be making stops in iowa including donald trump, ben carson, and jeb

carson joins fellow contenders rand paul, ted cruz, carly fiorina, and rick santorum in cedar rapids saturday for the rising tide summit... amanda: one event they won't be a part of...the iowa republican party's first- ever brown and black forum.. the forum gives candidates a chance to talk about issues that affect latinos and african americans. the iowa g-o-p says it was an exciting first- time opportunity for republicans, but it didn't work out this time around. charlie 9:35 it was supposed to happen today but you know, sometimes these partnerships don't work out on the first round. there's a lot of moving parts you need to get settled down and we just had some scheduleing issues and weren't able to make this event work. joe 14:58 it's a tremendous loss to them especially when latino community wants to participate in the caucuses both democrat and republican next febuary 1st. amanda: the democrat's brown and black forum remains on the calendar. it's scheduled for 7:00 p-m, january 11-th, at drake university

amanda: this month for the public to comment on the proposed bakken pipeline... amanda: this time the project goes before the iowa department of natural resources, which will hold a public meeting later this month on a permit needed by dakota access. you may be familiar with the proposed pipeline's path through iowa...crossing than a dozen counties... the project will need a permit from the d-n-r to owned land and water under jurisdiction of the iowa d-n-r. the department has scheduled a public meeting with a chance for iowans to comment about the permit and project. that meeting will be wednesday december 16th in des moines at the wallace state office building. iowa d-n-r expects to make a decision on the permit later this winter. amanda: another hearing continues in the decision process for the the oil pipeline that would connect the dakotas with illinois while crossing through the hawkeye state. since holding a meeting to allow public comments on the bakken pipeline, the iowa utilities board has been conducting

project in boone county. the final day for the scheduled public hearing will be monday...once completed their is no set timeline on when the board will make its decission. the hearing is scheduled to begin at eight thirty monday morning...and can be live streamed through the iowa utilities board web site... local five will also continue to follow this story and bring an update when a decision is made about the proposed pipeline. amanda: a great honor responders thursday... governor terry branstad stopped by the "carpet one floor and home" ceremony in urbandale, held to honor first responders a retired new york fireman, ed breen, who served during 9/11 presented the owners of the carpet one with a piece of steel from the world trade center. in return, carpet donation to responders and veterans. today-- treating the california as a possible terrorist attack. investigators are digging deep into the lives of wife team right abc's brian ross is here with the latest. in the same san townhouse where their infant daughter, sayed farook and his pakistani-born wife preparing to go to war. their weapons seen in these new photos released overnight by police. left behind, kill thousands of people, some 61- hundred rounds. their garage was a virtual bomb factory, with 12 unexploded bombs, described as similar to this one featured in an al qaeda publication. alarming at least one neighbor. aaron elswick: they were actually doing a lot of work out in the garage and she was kind of suspicious. but nobody called the police. chief jarrod burguan: they were well equipped. they could have continued to do another attack.

county health department.the widow of one of the employees he murdered said there were no warning signs. jennifer thalasinos: they were all friends with the man who did this, and even though they knew he was muslim they had no idea he became radicalized. i don't understand it. federal agents are now investigating the couple's international travel and contacts. looking for evidence of what turned farook and wife into killers. agents almost immediately went to the mosque he often attended in san bernardino. the imam, roshan abbassi, claims he was questioned by authorities at gunpoint. he would not answer questions about farook but told abc news he condemns all violence. roshan abbassi: the news of the shooting was shocking, unbelievable, unfathomable, left us all speechless and its act all muslims condemn.. also left behind as the heavily-armed couple headed off. in their

wanchanic made his first court appearance....he has been charged with two counts of first degree murder... he's accused of killing a des moines couple in their sleep earlier this week... these are the two victims -- bryon howard and heather belieu. funeral services for the couple are saturday... amanda: and now we know the name of the man who played a crucial role in helping police track down wanchanic... tuesday night chris (share-roan) charron was on his way to a woodward academy high school basketball but while on his the beige dodge everyone had for. local 5's claire story. double homicide, chris playing one scene over and over in his head "the video of the children being carried thats why on tuesday night while heading to announce a high school basketball game, he paid attention "thats when i heard the description of the cars license plate" that was until

" (lt. mike madden, san bernardino police) "it was unspeakable, the carnage we were seeing. the number of people who were injured and unfortunately already dead, and the pure those individuals that were still in need and needing to be safe."" amanda: the couple accused in the shooting died in a standoff with police... authorities say they had been in touch with people being investigated by the fbi for international terrorism. police found more than 3 thousand rounds of ammunition at their home, 12 pipe bombs and hundreds of tools that could be used to make bombs. amanda: iowa law enforcement have been taking steps to better prepare themselves in case of an emergency. story county is one of six sheriff's departments in the state to use the 10-33 program. the federal program helps bring in surplus military vehicles, to help combat standoffs or

story county has painted its vehicle to look like its patrol cars, and they can also use it for natural disaster assistance. the sheriff says he believes other counties need to consider using it to help for any emergencies. paul fitzgerald, story county sheriff: "we need to rethink the services we provide and rethink how we are going to better prepare ourselves, so we can better protect the public we serve." amanda: story county also has its officers train at its firearm course at least twice year, while its tactics officers are there for eight hours of training every month. there, they shoot guns, and also learn how to protect themselves from bullets, by setting up simulations along the course. amanda: happening today...time to winter in waukee! amanda/lam: the city's annual off this evening downtown district... holiday including the lighting of the winterfest tree, a holiday ice sculptor, a toy and food drive, visit from santa look for local five to be live

be a stressful across the nearly 400 thousand people iowa...but that's farmers come in. they're stepping up to give back stephanie kim has more. "the donations are rolling in at the iowa food bank. brad-"we know that farmers, and dozens of help out, you can donate non- farmers, and dozens of volunteers gathered at the food bank to celebrate a landmark. for the past 5 years, the iowa farm bureau and university of iowa athletics teamed up to donate more than 100 thousand dollars to feed hungry iowans-- that's 400 thousand meals for people across the state. brad- "it's one thing to raise corn, raise soybeans, and raise pigs. but to bring it from out farm to people in need is really special for us." brad is just one of the
