shooting spree last year gets prison time. sabrina/wxhang local 5's claire powell joins us now, and claire, you were at the sentencing today. claire/wxhang sabrina, pete polson - also known as the pleasant hill shooter- took the stand again today for his sentencing. claire: polson was found guilty on several charges-- including attempted murder -- stemming from a a shooting in pleasant hill on november 17th of last year. this morning, a judge sentenced polson to 55 years in prison- with a mandatory minimum of 27.5 years. the november 20-14 shooting severly injured two people -- a third person was narrowly missed. polson said he was heavily intoxicated at the time and didn't remember much from the shooting. all three emotional victims took the stand today - telling polson he deserves everything he gets. "my kids were in there. bullet went through my house. you couldve killed my kids. slam you dont care, theres a special place in hell for guys like you. hope you rot in prison and

claire/wxhang after the sentencing, polsons attorney said they plan to file an appeal within the next couple of days. coming up at 5 and 6 tonight, we'll have even more emotional reactions and statements from the victims and ththr families, sabrina? sabrina/wxhang it's definitely a day of closure for all those involved. thanks claire. sabrina: authorities in dallas county end up in a standoff earlier this morning... we are still gathering details about the early morning standoff that involved woodward police.. just before two a-m this morning local authorities were able to bring the standoff to a peaceful end. the woodward police chief said that they had negotiated with the driver of a vehicle for just over an hour, and that the person did have a weapon. we will continue to follow this story throughout the day, look for r more ahead on

are iowa dot com. sabrina: meanwhile, a metro child abuse case came to an end tuesday, with the sentencing of a pleasant hill daycare provider. christina williamson will spend 5 years in prison. she was arrested back in may after her husband saw video of her abusing the children. williamson had reached a plea deal in this case.. pleading guilty to two counts of child endangerment, in exchange for some other charges being dropped. the video of williamson used as evidence in the trial has also been released by police. we have posted to our website...we are iowa dot com....and want to warn you that it is disturbing., sabrina: this morning a roosevelt girls basketball coach and special education teacher is behind bars... sabrina: the educator turned himself in to authorities tuesday evening after a warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of sexual exploitation by a school employee...and assualt with intent to commit sexual abuse... 46 year old gerald "tig" johnson turned

everything they can grab. polk county sheriff headquarters is where people apply for and pick up their permit to carry a weapon in polk county. they're trying hard to keep up with all the new applications and issuing permits. bracelin 1:09 they're absolutely swamped. started seing an uptick in weaon permit applications beginning in october. take a look at a month by month comparison compared to last year in polk county. 100 more permits issued in october of 2015, more than 400 issued this november, and only a week into december there's a big increase compared to the whole month last year, 528 permits so far and most of them are new applicants. bracelin 1:54 out of that 528, only a little over 109 are renewals. sabrina: now, things aren't going to slow down after the start of the new year, in fact they could pick up even more. iowa's law changed in 2011

"we listen to people when they have feedback about how the caucuses work, and one of the things we heard is that some people can't participate, and certainly our military are so important to us and we just felt like that was something we really needed to concentrate on." iowans who are registered to vote but out of state, such as military members...can sign up for the

" ( natural sound: fixing bike) just inside the former scott county jail annex is a workshop full of old bicycle gears, tires and donated bikes that are need of desparte repair. all those parts are for the bicycle restoratoin program. it's designed to involve low risk-minimum security inmates

jail time --- a chance to give back to the community. officer don rupe provides direction, (natural sound: officer rupe: it will help straighten that (alice) practical training and safety instruction as inmates work to refurbish the bikes. for the inmates, it's a something broken. (natural sound: hammer) (alice) and make it shine again. (dylan jungjohann/community restoration worker) building the bikes is fun because you get to see them in the state when you get them from the police department or whatever they're kinda broken and stuff and you look at them and you're like wow i built that. it's a great feeling to look at it and know you fixed it" (alice) dylan jungjohann is a community restoration worker. he says the scott county jail has helped him turn his life around. there are incentives for working while serving time. officials say inmates have to pay 30 dollar a day to be at the jail. now if you work you only have to pay 5 dollars. officer rupe says this program also gives workers a chance hone a skill.
