night from hilton coliseum. iowa state is currently ranked number 2 in the usa today coaches poll. jon: the saying goes to be the best you have to beat the best. well that's exactly what northern iowa is out to do this weekend when they take on 4 time defending champs north dakota state. these two teams met earlier in the season-- with the panthers losing on a late game touchdown pass from carson wentz to derius shephard with just 18 seconds left. this is a rivalry that has built up through the last couple of seasons. but uni hasn't had a shot at them in the post season since the bison started their streak of national championships. since their last meeting-- these two teams have changed-- mostly due to injury. ndsu will likely be without their star quarterback carson wentz-- who has participated in a practice or two this week but hasn't played since their loss week 6 to south dakota due to a broken bone in his wrist. the changes in both teams are worth noting-- especially to uni head coach mark farley. "i think they've got a different football team because they're playing with different people. i think we've got a different football team than what we played with so i don't know that we can compare the last game to this game that was two months ago. we're down four or five starters from a when we played them but to me that's the strength of our football team right now is that the next man that's coming in is playing very strong football for us and maybe a notch up from the person that they replaced.
