than a hundred students means the district will have less money for its programs. they need to cut out eight hundred thousand dollars total by next year. an advisory committee submitted 16 cost-cutting measures, which included dropping some language and music classes. one of those up for cuts...japanese... lilah fidler, sophomore: "people should have other options, in case they want translation jobs, or anything that would involve economic growth or globalization." dan carolin, japanese teacher: "there's a misperception of japan not being an important business player any more, but japan is an established commodity in the world economy." sabrina: the school board is expected to make its final decision at its meeting tonight. that's at 7 in the learning resource center. sabrina: a developing story this morning out of northwestern iowa... sabrina: during a championship wrestling match saturday, a spencer high school student collapsed...and then died at the hospital... austin roberts had been fighting for a championship title during the spencer invitational wrestling tournament... the teen died

but there's still now word on what caused him to collapse. the death has been tough on his family and fellow classmates. " (terry hemann/superintenden t - spencer community schools): "there were a lot of tears, a lot of hugs and those types of things, but there were also some laughs, talking about stories about austin. austin was a student that was bigger than life in many ways, a large young man, 220- pounder student, with a laugh as big as any room you can put him in. good kid!"" sabrina: a crisis team has been providing grief counseling at spencer high school. a go-fund me account has been set up to help the roberts family. sabrina: lights are off in rain and weekend. jolly holiday lights was the season. it's a first in its 20 year history. the beloved christmas tradition put on by make a wish iowa takes around 14-hundred volunteers and three weeks to set up. make a wish says the cancellation may cost it more thousand donations.. that up to 40 wishes

sabrina: to this story. last week mercy hospital stepped raise money for make a wish. helped donate to the make a wish campaign by rounding up their purcahses at the starbucks in the hospital and making donations at the gift shop. those who donated were recognized around the hospital with these light-up christmas pins they were given. season can be a families dealing with the loss of a loved one... theres one to make things a little easier for through a tough time... local five's nikki helped one to know. (laughter) enjoying each others this season... family there's more eye. (everybody has a story, you won't know my story walking down the season is far from easy for them... their family has been broken -- they're dealing with heartbreaking loss. and left with just pictures and memories of what the holidays used to be. 16:30:48 it's hard figuring it out, its just different. everything is different, never the same. 14 year old nailea was everything a teen could be... very involved in school...well loved by her classmates, and someone people just liked being around.

sabrina: the animal rescue league of iowa (arl) is iowa's largest shelter, caring for pets each year. the arl serves people and pets from across the state of iowa through its programs, which include pet adoption, humane education, pet behavior training, spay/neuter, animal cruelty intervention and much more. history the arl has grown dramatically since its founding in 1926 - expanding its programs that serve both people and homeless animals across iowa. the most obvious growth is the number of animals the arl provides shelter and care for each

thousand animals a decade ago to more than 15,000 animals in 2013. through our proactive community outreach and spay/neuter programs, in the past few years we have begun to see a decrease in the number of animals we care for, but our work is far from over. other areas of growth include the arl's programs designed specifically to address the reasons animals end up in shelters, including spay/neuter, behavior training, and humane education programs. the arl's positive reinforcement training program has expanded to offer year-round classes, as well as free behavior advice for dogs, cats, rabbits and other pets. the shelter continues to spay and neuter all dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets and pigs that are adopted from our shelter. in addition to the animals that come through the arl's doors, the arl also serves the people of iowa through its many services.
