device, about the size of a quarter, called a cardiomems. dr. jerome pierson says, "we place this device in the pulmonary artery and it sends a signal to one of the receivers that will tell us an estimate of the pressure inside the lungs. and when we use this device, we become proactive and we're able to treat patients, some times up to 30 days before their start having symptoms." dr. jerome pierson and his nurse, lynett, are able to keep a close eye on george's fluid levels through the information transmitted directly to their computers. the idea is that, through this data, increased pressure on the pulmonary artery can be spotted even before weight and blood pressure changes appear, which are often used as indirect measures of worsening heart failure. dr. pierson says, "we've been able to make some changes just based upon our numbers that i think prevented george from ending up in the hospital again." for george and linda,

"it's still an uphill battle and it's proably going to be for the rest of my life, but it's going to be easier- i'm not going to sit there and wait until i fill up with fluid," says george. linda says, "just the fact that we can catch the fluid build-up early, is just a weight lifted off of my shoulders. they've actually really given me my husband back." on friday nights. hinkel also had success on the track, winning 5 state titles. but it's his impact off the field of play that his players will remember most... "wednesday night up in madrid, hundreds and hundreds of people, current and former players, friends and family came to remember randy hinkel. there were tears, but also smiles and laughter... after 29 years, it's hard to imagine what madrid football would be without him. but it's e ven harder to imagine how different life would be for the people he impacted... "he coached my dad, he coached my older brother and he coached my older brother who's a senior this year." these players were a part of coach hinkel's last team and it doesn't take long for the stories and memories to come pouring out... "during the middle of practice, he goes 'luke how you going to be in shape when you come back?' i'm like of course, 'i've been running and stuff' i haven't. he goes, 'well how bout you start running until i tell you to stop. about a half hour later, i hear him and mr. perkins yelling, because he forgot me." "he's just talking normal and we're all getting ready for the game and hinkel turns and he just screams 'are you ready!?' it was awesome, it got us all excited and that was one of my favorite memories about hinkel and i'm going to miss him." as much as people will miss coach on the field, it's his impact off the field that will resonate forever. "i'll always remember his passion that he had for the game of football but not only for the game of football but passion for us as players and the community and he always wanted us to succeed after football and in life." "he doesn't care about himself, he doesn't care about the wins or losses, he cares about what you're learning, what he can teach you for life, how he can prepare you for the future and that's why everyone's here, because he did that for so many people and impacted so many lifes."

good morning iowa! i'm stephanie angleson it's x:00 a-m on thursday december 24th. thanks for joining us! stephanie: good to have everyone with us! and it's great to have central iowa's most accurate forecast with meterologist sam schreier! hey sam! sam: (sam adlibs) sam (sam adlibs) sam: weather adlib: a winter weather advisory is in place across western iowa through the end of the day today as snow is expected and lots of people will be on the road travelling. snow showers will move through western iowa during the morning hours and slowly fade out across central iowa during the afternoon. accumulations will generally be around 1 to 3" west of the metro, but we could still see an inch or so here in des moines. grassy areas will be affected the most, but with the freeze overnight roads in western iowa will likely get a bit slick under the fresh snow
