"local 5 news at 5:30 in hd starts now. we are iowa " nikki: good evening. welcome to local 5 news, i'm nikki davidson. glad you're with us tonight. winter weather is headed our way.... 98 of iowas 99 counties will be under a storm watch tomorrow morning... for the latest on what you need to know when you wake up... we're sending it over to meterologist bree sullivan... bree? bree/wxcenter: a winter storm warning will be in effect for a vast majority of iowa through the day on monday and expire by early in the day on tuesday. overnight tonight, temperatures will dip into the teens and 20s as the storm lifts into the state from the south. the approaching winter storm will cause travel headaches for monday. western and central iowa should expect mainly snow, although freezing rain and sleet in the metro are possible. eastern iowa

government for information on snow parking bans in your area... nikki: our big story -- back to 1shot: a tragic christmas morning crash has left a fort dodge community devastated... according to family... a six year old girl has died as a result of her injuries in the collison... according to the iowa state highway patrol report... a jeep was traveling east about 5 miles away from fort dodge on d-20... when it drifted across the center line, and struck a truck traveling westbound.... both drivers... as well as a third adult and three small children were all injured in the crash and taken to unity point hospital we're learning that the six year old payton henry passed away while at the hospital... the fort dodge community is rallying around her family.... jana bartlett, brooke's aunt: "it's an absolute nightmare. it's an absolute nightmare. seeing these kids and the parents having to go through all of this is just absolutely devastating." nikki: a go fund me has

justin henry and their children... so far more than twenty thousand dollars has been raised since friday... nikki/1shot: perry police say at least five people have been injured in a two vehicle crash yesterday afternoon... it happened on highway 141 and 8th street in perry.... police are releasing few details at this point, but say the crash involved two vehicles and the driver that caused the crash will be facing charges. stay with local five for this developing story... we will release more information as it becomes available to us. nikki: police in newton are asking for your help locating a missing 12 year old girl... they say charlene rachelle brown was last seen at a residence in newton. the 12 year old is described as a white female, 5'2, with brown hair and brown eyes. she was last seen wearing white and blue flannel pajamas. if you have any information about her whereabouts, contact the newton police department at the number on your screen. nikki/1shot: a cow is found slaughtered on its owners property.... now the guthrie county sheriff's office is investigating whether the bizarre crime is linked to burglary at a nearby farm operation.... first a report

burglary at a farm operation near 270th and quail avenue south of monteith. a truck and car are believed to be involved. while investigators were collecting evidence they discovered a cow on nearby property had been butchered in its pasture near 320th and ranch trail north of menlo. they say it appears someone intitally shot the animal as if they were hunting it... officals think the crimes happened either on christmas eve or christmas morning. if any one has information, please contact the guthrie county sheriff's office. the information is there on your screen. nikki/ots: there has been another inmate death at the coralville corrections unit. 65 year old dennis duane richards died on christmas day. of natural causes from throat cancer. he was serving sixty year sentence for second degree murder and second degree arson. richards' sentence began on january 19, 2010. nikki: this is traditionally one of the biggest travel weekends of the entire year. but with awinter storm warning for the entire state of iowa.... local law enforcement is urging people to

roads, if at all possible. local five's jacob peklo joins us now with more. jacob/bam nikki, according to the u-s department of transportation, the number of people taking road trips of fifty miles or more increases by 54 percent in this period between christmas and new year's. between christmas and new year's. it's why troopers are saying get your travel done tonight, or wait until tuesday to hit the roadways again. michael clyde has worked a lot of holiday weekends, in his 11 years with the iowa state patrol. trooper michael clyde, iowa state patrol: "every year, it seems like people get in more and more of a hurry to get where they're going, and that always seems to be a factor right around the holidays is the speed." on sunday, he's performing his usual checks of the roadways, making sure all the cars or trucks that have skidded off the roadways are accounted for. nats with the potential for the whole state to be under a winter storm warning on monday, this flowing scene of traffic could look far different. trooper michael clyde, iowa state patrol: "if you are stranded, it's important to remember to stay calm, don't get out of your vehicle, call us and we'll put you on the list and we'll get to you as soon as we can." nats
