only a few days left in 20-15, and just over a month to go until the iowa caucus. the next few days, presidential hopefuls will make an end of the year push here in iowa...as they try to build momentum leading into the new year. elias: a pair of democrats and a trio of republicans will spend parts of the last days of 20-15 taking part in campaign stops across iowa. bernie sanders and martin o'malley are trying to cut into the lead of democratic frontrunner hillary clinton. republican frontrunner donald trump, along with candidates chris christie and marco rubio will also be back in iowa in late january. the second of two january debates will be held in des moines. democrats also have one more debate before the caucus, that one is in south carolina. elias: the new year will mark a new beginning for two sioux city churches...as they merge into one. morningside presbyterian and third presbyterian

the top story for the morning, concerns over the winter storm moving across iowa... elias: with eight to ten inches of snow in the metro possible, travel could be dangerous today with 98 of iowa's 99 counties in the winter storm warning, local law enforcement have urged people to stay off the roads if possible... even the most experienced drivers will want to take it easy with the predicted conditions. trooper michael clyde, iowa state patrol: "we always see people who think they know how to drive in icy weather, and those are the people that end up crashing their cars into ditches. you can't drive 70 miles an hour on snow and ice, you can't drive 60 miles an hour on snow and ice." elias: state troopers say if you get stranded on the road, be sure to say inside your car where it is safest.

as we wind down 20-15, we want to take a look back at the top five big stories from the past twelve months... today, we look at the top national and international stories that made headlines during the year. elias: we begin with the growing refugee crisis that has hit the globe... elias: hundreds of thousands of people have fled syria, afghanistan, and iraq...trying to find a better life outside of the war torn countries. the refugee crisis is being called the worst since world war two. a move to allow more refugees into the u-s has been met with protest, as more than half of the country's governors, including iowa, say they do not want to allow them into their states. elias: the year was also marked by mass shootings in the u-s. elias: the most recent in san bernardino, california, where a couple opened fire at a health center killing 14-people. authorities believe the islamic couple had become

growing concerns over the influx of refugees and immigrants into the u-s. in june, a man opened fire inside of a south carolina church killing nine. the incident re- opened the debate over the confederate flag, which has been taken down in the state. elias: the use of deadly force by the use of deadly force by police sparks protests... elias: deaths of unarmed black men, such as freddie gray, jamar clark, and walter scott sparked protests by black lives matter. the city of chicago released dashcam showing the death of laquan macdonald...who was shot more than a dozen times by a white police officer. the city's police force is now being investigated by the justice departmet. elias: next up, a big moment for same sex couples in the u-s. elias: the end of june was marked by celebrations, as the supreme court ruled that states could no longer ban same-sex marriage in the u-s. a five to four ruling by the court marked a major change in l-g-b-t rights. while the landmark decision extended the
