jack: happening now in the metro-- jack: power outages. the lights are just coming back on for more than 15-hundred people in urbandale. their power was out for several hours this evening. it wasn't directly from the snow. mid american energy says somebody hit a power pole! at last check, 132 homes were still not yet on the grid, but crews are working to restore them. jack: and if you have to do anymore driving tonight, here's what the interstates look like. this is a live look from the d-o-t traffic cameras of i-235 at 42nd street. the d-o-t reporting the conditions on the interstate as "partially

jack: there was plenty to be worried about on the roads earlier tonight. this video is from west des moines just a couple hours ago. as the snow piled up, so did the accidents. however, no major crashes to report in the metro tonight. jack/ots many flights out of the des moines international airport were delayed... or even cancelled today. some stranded passengers tell us.... they might not be able to fly out till the end of the week. local 5's nikki davidson gives us a look at what the airport says it's doing to minimize delays right now. look live: not many flights arriving or leaving the des moines airport today... but the airport says they have something new this

local 5 pre-game coverage from the rose bowl. local 5 sports director jon schaeffer was supposed to be arriving in pasadena, california today... but his flight was cancelled. so look for extensive coverage from giaimo starting tomorrow local five. jack/lam: here in des moines, public works has been out with crews roads. the city has 700 miles of residential streets to clear... which they will work on once all snow routes are finished. des moines crews are on 12 hour shifts. they began with pre-treatment yesterday, plowing today... and a final pass with rock salt later tonight, until all the streets are done. we ask people to not park on residential streets." jack: most metro cities have their snow ordinances in effect-- which means you can't park on snow routes. plows need open streets to clear the way. in des moines, they've also implemented their even/odd plowing system for neighborhoods with limited off-street parking. the neighborhoods involved in this can be seen on your screen. that means between the hours of 7 a-m and 7-pm you have to be on a certain side of the street. odd days of the month mean you park on the odd-address side of the street. if you don't follow the law .... it's a 35 dollar fine. jack: if you're curious, you can also track state d-o-t plows while they're on the clock. the dot has a website

arrows are where the plows are right now. around 420 trucks are out on the interstates and highways right now. jack: new at 10. jack/1shot: des moines police are asking for your help to catch a serial robber.. they say this same man is behind five robberies at three convenience stores in des moines. he never shows a weapon, but does threaten violence. here are the stores he's hit: a kum and go on hubbell. a git n go on easton. and another git n go on urbandale ave. two of the stores were hit twice by him. the suspect is described as a white man in his 20's, about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds. know who he is? call polk county crime stoppers: 223- 1400. jack: des moines' latest homicide victim was found shot to death at

des moines. police say 36 year old tacono conner was found dead overnight. 37 year old ami stolki was also shot but is recovering from her injuries at a hospital. police say they have a person of interest they're tracking down to interview. this is des moines' 21st homicide of the year, the second highest on record. " "it was 20 years ago when we had 20 in 1995, in 1990 we had 23, this is the highest since then"" jack: the investigation is still on going. tacono conners' wife told local 5 news he leaves behind seven children. jack: a des moines woman was killed in a bus crash in chicago today. the burlington trailways bus lost control on i-55 early this morning. 33 passengers were on board. four passengers were injured, and one was killed. that victim has been identified as 21-year-old nicole

underwood was a university of iowa student, and was headed to chicago to meet with her boyfriend to celebrate new year's together. burlington trailways says the bus was going 49 miles per hour in a 55 zone. the bus driver told chicago police he was in the far right lane, getting ready to exit when a pick-up truck veered into his lane, causing him to lose control. jack: and some sad news to pass along to iowa's radio listeners. a well-known reporter for w-h-o radio, cheryl pannier, has died. it happened christmas day at her home. she was just 54 years old, and an autopsy has been scheduled. funeral services will be held this thursday morning at mount olive lutheran church in des moines. cheryl co- hosted the dick and cheryl call- in show on saturday mornings. jack:

headlines now. jack/1shot: pieces in dallas after tornadoes substantial damage over the weekend. dozens of people were storms from north texas, up oklahoma, kansas, arkansas and missouri. the roofs off homes, mangled vehicles, damaged churches, downed power lines, natural gas lines to rupture. 46 weather- related deaths around the last wednesday jack/lam: there are only four days left until the grand daddy of them all -- the rose bowl. and what better way to prepare than to stuff yourself with prime rib? the hawkeyes took part in the 60th annual beef bowl at lawry's the prime rib restaurant in beverly hills on sunday.... and they won. the beef bowl began in 1956 and is known as college football's most enduring pre-bowl game tradition.

jordan/bam: we're now less than 90 hours until the 102nd rose bowl kicks off between iowa and stanford. the weather may have stopped some from reaching pasadena, but thankfully one of our own was able to make it thru the elements. alex giaimo has a preview from los angeles. underway new years day between iowa and stanford. the game kicks at 4 pm on espn. already in pasadena, jon join her tomorrow jordan/bam: from the gridiron to the hardwood...tomo welcome in the nation to tip off the big ten 13-0 michigan town tuesday and the hawks due for a win against sparty! after winning the first matchup between the two in fran mccaffery's first season, iowa has since gone 0-9 versus the spartans, but 4 of those losses were by 4 points or less.. anytime the #1 team comes to town it's a big deal, but when it's also the big ten opener, the stakes are even higher. "michigan state is the #1 team in the country, it's going to be a great matchup for us. they wanna get out and run, so do we, it's gonna be an uptempo game. it's going to be an awesome atmosphere here in carver, it'll be a fun one. you know we've never been able to beat michigan state, but we've had some close ones, we've had some very good games with them and i think we're very hungry wanting to get a win against them." our offseason has been really good and we're all ready for it. tuesday's game tips off at 8 pm on btn. the hawkeyes are actually 1.5 point favorites thanks to sparty being without denzel valentine. and finally, good news for iowa state's deonte burton. the junior transfer from marquette has been named the big 12 newcomer of the week after his performance versus cincinnati last tuesday. burton scored 12 points in 16 minutes going 5 for 6 from the field in the cyclones 81-79 win over the bearcats. the milwaukee native is averaging 9.5 points and shooting 62 percent in the two games since becomming eligible. the cyclones are back in action wednesday at home versus coppin state. jon/1bam we'll be right back... you're watching local five news at 10. brad:
