you don't get the tiger, the >>good morning. i'm marci gonzalez in for reena ninan. >> and i'm kendis gibson. our top stories right now that we're following on "world news now." the historic flooding turns missouri into aisaster zone. look at those pictures. hundreds of roads are closed including major highways and a section of the mississippi closed as well to shipping. at least 13 people dead. more details in a moment. the pentagon says u.s.-led air strikes in syria and iraq have killed a top terror leader with direct ties to the paris attacks. they say sharaf al muwadan was actively planning atacks against the west. the fbi is investigating the crash of a small plane into an anchorage office building. the pilot of that plane was killed and investigators say his wife worked in that building. e was not in the office at the time and in los angeles an actor on the hit tv show "glee" has been arrested on child morningty charges. mark salling was taken into

and those are some of our top stories on this wednesday december 30th. >> announcer: from abc news this is "world news now." good morning. we're going to start this h half hour with the devastating flooding in missouri as well as in southern illinois. >> the mississippi river is expected to crest tomorrow morning. but already the big river and its tributaries are overflowing the banks. at least 13 people have died. abc's rob marciano is there.e. >> reporter: along the rising rivers in the heartland an army of volunteers in a race against time. dozens of people coming together to shore up that levee so that the mississippi doesn't flood kimswick. parts of the town near st. louis already flooded. innion, missouri the mcdonald's surrounded by water. that gas station swallow up by the river. more than 500 roads closed across the state. the coast guard even csing

the flooding in this region already claimin at least 18 lives. missouri's governor activating the national guard and warning citizens it's far from over. >> you've got at least nine feet of vertical water or more coming, so be safe out there. >> reporter: residents here along the burbis river have evacuated but the water is beginning to recede slowly. as for the biggerivers, missouri, mississippi, they have yet to crest. rob marciano, abc news, union, missouri. also flooding problems in central and souththern illiis. two people drowned when they tried to cross a flooded area in their minivan. the car still hn't been found. the three days of heavy rain have also damaged more than two dozen homes soueast of springfield. many roads are still c closed there too. and it could be days before sewage flowing into a a mississippi river tributary coul be stopped. flooding disabled a treatment plant monday night cutting off its power. the entire plant could soon be underwater.

strickland's dog sam were hunting ducks sunday on this oklahoma lake when their boat capsized. here in oklahoma the men faced tough conditions. that day the tempeperature ner t above 36 degrees, and the winds were gusting at 45 miles per hour. moreland's's body was found monday, just before the trip he tweeted "in case we don't come back," he wrote he and strickland are going through winter storm goliath t kill ducks in oklahoma. hashtag into the storm. teams using sonar are searching icy waters for any sign of strickland. his wife helen tweeting "we love you craig miael. come home." strickland's friends and family are not giving up hope. clayton sandell, abc new oklahoma city. authorities say it was a pizza order on a cell phone that led them to ethan couch and his mother in a mexican resort city. couch is a texaxaseen who received probation instead of prison for a drunken driving wreck that killed four female. his defense had argued he was afflicted with affluenza.

twitter has updated its rules regarding abusive behavior and hateful conduc the social med giant has been under fire for not doing enough to thwart isis propaganda efforts. twitter says it ll not tolerate behavior intended to harass, intimidate or use fear to silence another user's voice. those who violate the rules will have their accounts deleted. there is word of a major blow to delaware's economy. du pont chemical is laying off more than 1/4 of its workforce in the state. that's 1,700 workers. the chemical giant is cutting expenses before its merger with dow chemical, which hasn't been approvoved t. du pont was founded in delaware 213 years ago. well, mcdonald's stock is soaring thanks in part to some menu changes. shares in the fast food giant are up nearly % for the year. hitting a record high yesterday. analysts say a big reason is all-day breakfast. that just went into effect. apparently having an egg mcmuffin forunch resonates with customers.

the coast guard even closing parts of the mississippi river. the flooding in this region already claiming at least 18 lives. missouri's governor activating the national guard and warning citizens it's far from over. >> you've got at least nine feet of vertical water or more coming, so be safe out there. >> reporter: residents here along the bourbeuse river have evacuated but the ter is beginning to recede slowly. as for the bigger rivers, missouri, missisissippi, ty have yet to crest. rob b marcianoabc news, , union, missouri. there are also flooding problems in central and southern illinois. two people drowned when they tried to cross a flooded area in their minivan. the car still hasn't been found. the three days of heavy rain have also damaged more than two dozen homes southeast of springfield. many roads are still closed there too. and it could be days before sewage flowing into a mississippi river tributary could be stopped. flooding disabled a treatment plant monday night cutting off its power. the entire plant could soon be underwater. it's uncertain whethe plant will be operational again.
