" local 5 news at 10 in hd starts now. we are iowa" stephanie/2shot a newton pastor is thankful to be alive tonight. good evening. i'm stephanie angleson. jack/2shot and i'm jack miller. pastor cory stout was helping dig someone's car out of a snowbank when another car came along and crashed into them. police say a drunk driver was behind the wheel of that second car. the pastor has deep cuts on his face. but his spirit, he says, is not broken. jack: local five's jacob peklo sat down with pastor stout tonight and joins us now with more. jacob? jacob/bam jack, we've heard of cars being hit by drunk drivers, but cory stout himself received the impact of one car smashing into another one. incredibly, stout sees this as an

even says he'd welcome the driver to his church with open arms. during his 10 years as a senior pastor in newton, cory stout has preached and practiced a message of helping others. cory stout, community heights alliance church pastor: "i'm not perfect, but i've certainly come to this place in my life where i've experienced forgiveness from god and know that he know invites me to extend that to others." around 8:40 wednesday night, stout was leaving his church, when he saw a car had slid off the icy road and was stuck in a snowbank. natural sound of car driving by cory stout, community heights alliance church pastor: "probably standing right here, kind of shoveling her out and i didn't see the other car coming, but it came down the hill and hit the car that i was shoveling out and that car hit me, it probably threw me back into the snow." an alleged drunk driver, 19 year old rey khalil started the chain reaction, badly injuring stout. cory stout, community heights alliance church pastor: "i'm on my hands and my knees and i'm bleeding and there's an accident and i can feel my head, and i can tell there's blood." his injuries afterwards were extensive. one cut closed by seven stitches. another... glued shut and the lower part of his cheek had what doctors called "road rash."

church pastor: "i realized pretty quickly that i'm going to need some help getting to the hospital." an ambulance crew arrived, but a friend took stout to the hospital. nats his injuries are slowly healing, but it's his faith that's driving his recovery. cory stout, community heights alliance church pastor: "it's been overwhelming for my wife and i, just to receive so many prayers from people and love from our church family. it's certainly been a blessing." as for the driver, who was booked for dui, stout says he hopes to one day meet him. cory stout, community heights alliance church pastor: "sometimes, bad things happen but god can turn those around for good. that's my prayer, god would bring good out of this, and that even for this young man, absolutely i forgive him and would want him to know that." jacob/bam rey khalil was taken to the jasper county jail. he was released on a $1,300 dollar bond and is charged with operating while intoxicated. live in the

news. we are iowa. stephanie: a webster county official is under investigation by the iowa attorney general. authorities say jeannette than- upa-korn was on paid administrative leave, when she allegedly went back into her office and deleted files off of her work computer. the board of supervisors asked the sheriff's office to look into the matter. they believe that thanupakorn had illegally recorded a closed meeting the assessor. state is getting involved because conflict of interest. sheriff james stubbs: "they have represented the accesor's office or would at certain times so there's a conflict there and that's why it ultimitely ended up with the attorney general's office. " stephanie: there will be a meeting on wednesday, where county officials could determine if the assessor will keep her job. the sheriff says this case is done at the local level, unless the attorney general asks for more help. jack: roads around central iowa are
