elias: the iowa legislature convenesfor the 20-16 session today. state lawmakers will be reviewing iowa's medicaid privatization and planned parenthoold funding, while tackling education initiatives...last year's session went long due to a lack of agreement on school funding. governor branstad plans to introduce a proposal for clean water funding. sabrina: in the number two spot this morning... sabrina: the three major democratic presidential candidates will be in des moines this evening as they take part in a forum designed to focus on issues that affect latinos and african americans. the democrat's brown and black forum will be held at drake university tonight starting at seven.. look for live coverage right here on local five news. elias: the third thing you need to know before you walk out the door... elias: more than a week after taking over an oregon wildlife refuge, ammon bundy and his group of protestors have

of one point three billion dollars, the largest prize ever offered in north america. the big payout will likely boost sales, and in turn means it could go even higher....the cash payout already pushing above 800-million dollars! sabrina: turning to some developing news this morning....a sunday fire leaves a local injured. sabrina: west des moines firefighters answered the call to a home on bradford drive around 3-30 morning... there the house flames.. started to collapse and the exterior wall fell and struck the injured firefighter was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening neighbors say outside for hours.

folks in ten southern states are paying a dollar-75 or less. usa today dot com reports in some states, a gallon of regular has dropped to a dollar-42! the price of gas could drop to a dollar a gallon in some areas. that hasn't happened since 19-99. elias: and 20-15 was a strong year for the the u-s jobs market. american employers added more than two and a half million jobs. 292-thousand of those jobs were added in december. it was the second best year for jobs gains since 19-99. americans saw their paychecks go up as well. wages grew 2- point-5 percent in december. it matched the gains in october-- which were the best in six years. elias: that's a look at your money this morning... coming up after the break... sam's in with central iowa's most accurate

a militia group joins protestors in oregon, as we take a look at national headlines... sabrina: today makes ten days since an oregon wildlife refuge was taken over by protestors lead by ammon bundy... now his group has been joined by armed members of the pacific patriot network. this new "militia" says they protect american's civil rights against a tyrranical government. a representative for the bundy crew says the group showed up on their own to provide security for the occupiers. sabrina: and drug kingpin "el chapo" guzman was recaptured friday...but an article released saturday now has actor sean penn under investigation. rolling stone magazine reports the drug kingpin met with penn for a secret interview in october. it was published saturday, along with video clips. guzman may not remain behind bars in mexico, ...he could be extradicted to the u-s to face charges. elias: the frigid temperatures didn't deter football fans

one littler girl, she had hoped to enjoy the winter weather. sabrina: however, her cancer treatment has caused a problem for her fulfilling that dream. but as local 5's mark carlson reports, some nurses came together to make a dream come true. [anchor:mark]mark [readrate:15] izabella saul, better known as bella, is a little girl... with a big smile... and a big dream that she brought with her from texas when she moved to iowa with her family around the new year. but here in snowy iowa nurses and hospital staff at the university of iowa children's hospital taking care of bella as she battles cancer -- had an idea.
