unfortunately a cold front tonight is going to send temperatures falling fairly quick this evening as the winds switch out of the northwest and lows fall into the 20s. friday looks like a cold with temperatures falling fairly steadily through the day with lots of wind. there may be a few snow showers in the morning in northwest and central iowa friday, but any accumulation would be very limited. saturday looks like another very cold and windy day with highs in the low teens but wind chill values in the single digits. another light snow is likely late saturday through the evening although at this point it looks as if any accumulation would stay under an inch. sunday is the coldest day we've got coming with lows below and a high barely above zero. next week looks fairly cold again with a few snow chances mixed in.

6:11 am
(daniel desousa/san diego county animal services) "finding rover is facial recognition app." here's how it works. once you download the app to your smart phone or tablet, you take a picture of your pet and it's scanned into the system. (daniel desousa/san diego county animal services) "the public can use to register their dog, and if the dog ever runs away, they can post that their dog has been lost." using facial recognition technology, the app searches through thousands of images of old and recently added pictures to try and locate your pet. this is jane. she's been in the shelter for over a week and is helping us with our demonstration. (daniel desousa/san diego county animal services) "it looks at 8 different points on the dog's face. if the dog comes into us, we take the same kind of photograph and if that dog has been reported as lost, it makes that connection." and another feature -- the app will send alerts to be on the lookout for your dog
6:12 am
also uses finding rover. and it also works in reverse. (daniel desousa/san diego county animal services) "if you just see a dog running loose down the street, you can take picture of it and it will still post it that way as well." in fact, in the last 10 days these families have all been reunited with their pets here in san diego via the finding rover app. (misha dibono, reporting) "so here's the best part: the app is absolutely free and it takes just minutes. the guy that developed it did it because he wanted to make sure that all these dogs would be reunited with their families." (daniel desousa/san diego county animal services) "it's amazing to see anybody get reunited with their pet. it's a member of their family. we see people break down in tears just because they have been missing this family member for a day." all: (reax) elias: elias: we have lots more good morning iowa
