orders about gun control, he's gotten a lot of support...but also a lot of backlash from presidential candidates. some believe the president's plans don't go far enough, while others say they're unnecessary because the laws on the books are already strong enough. this weekend, adventureland is hosting the metro's first gun show since the president's executive order. nikki: local five's jacob peklo joins us now with more on this story. jacob peklo, studio: "president obama has issued executive orders, designed to make it more difficult for anyone to purchase a firearm. but people at the altoona gun show say the changes aren't necessary." bob ducharme uses gun shows to meet with thousands of people about firearms. bob ducharme, owner of tactical creations: "there's, you know, 40 dealers in here, so they get to compare prices, they get to hold 300, 400 different guns and they get to feel which one feels best to them." some are hunters, others are looking for protection or want to learn how to handle a gun responsibly. bob ducharme, owner of tactical creations: "until people actually can get around guns and shoot them a little bit, and then they get comfortable. you don't know how many anti- gunners i've taken out to the range and now they own guns and shoot guns and are

resident: "they offered it here, and it was just a perfect time to go through and get that certificate and it really worked out well." because of the number of mass shootings that have taken place over the last year, many of the presidential candidates say the system is broken and just about anyone could leave a gun show with a dangerous weapon. but ducharme says that's just not the case. bob ducharme, owner of tactical creations: "gun show is the same as walking into my store. i've got to fill out the same paperwork, everybody here has to fill out the same paperwork." roger mcginley, des moines resident: "i think that perception has really been perpetuated by the media, as well as a lot of our politicians, including at least three of them who are trying to run for president." and for many of these buyers, there's one simple message to the candidates running for president. roger mcginley, des moines resident: "if you're not going to support the second amendment really strongly, you're not going to get my vote. that's just the way it is." jacob peklo, studio: "the most important thing vendors say about the current law is the need to better enforce it. according to the nra, more than 80-thousand people lied on their background checks, but only 44 of those

studio, jacob peklo, local five news. we are iowa." nikki lying on a gun background check is already considered a felony. people who are punished can receive up to five years in prison as well as fines. nikki: an officer involved shooting investigation is underway after a deputy shot a man in muscatine last night... it happened just after 10 pm ... when a muscatine police officer and a sheriffs deputy stopped a vehicle suspected of being stolen in the parking lot of the best western on cleveland avenue... officials say the man in the vehicle attempted to drive off and hit several vehicles in the parking lot while doing so... including one of the fully marked law enforcement vehicles... the deputy on scene fired his gun and shot the driver... who was then taken to the hospital. the name of the man shot hasn't this time. an investigation is being conducted by the muscatine police department, the iowa divison of criminal investigation, and iowa state patrol. nikki: a sex offender escapes from

release facility. now police are asking for your help finding him 26-year-old ross clouse was serving time for a third degree sexual abuse charge back in 2009. police say he failed to return to the facilitiy last night. he's described as a white man, with black hair and brown eyes and is six foot-three and weighs 254 pounds. if you have any information on his wherabouts, please contact des moines police or the polk county sheriff's department. nikki/ots: today.. the fourth annual midwest march for life took place at the capital building.. governor terry branstad joined thousands of people to fight for their rights.. this started out as the march for life in washington dc to commemorate the roe v. wade decision... and now it's come to iowa.. citizens marched and chanted to speak their opinions against legalized abortion. nikki: iran has freed four americans in a prisoner swap deal with the united states. the u-s government said it is the result of more than a year of top secret negotiations. a washington post journalist is among those freed... along with a marine veteran

a senior administration official said today the u-s -- in return -- is dropping charges against seven iranians convicted of sanctions violations. a fifth american is also being released by iran, but according to us officials is not part of the negotiated prison swap.... nikki: the u.s. sanctions against iran are over. president obama signed an executive order saturday, lifting sanctions against iran. this means iran has joined a special group of peaceful users of nuclear energy.... that includes the u.s., the u.k., france, germany, china and russia. secretary of state john kerry said iran's progress should be recognized. (john kerry, u.s. secretary of state) "iran has undertaken significant steps that many, and i do mean many, people doubted would ever come to pass. and that should be recognized, even though the full measure of this achievement can only be realized by assuring continued full compliance in the coming years." nikki:

has declared a state of emergency for michigan to help provide clean water for local residents. a large area of the state has contaminated drinking water.... this issue has been going on for months.... now fema will help decontaminate, providing water, water filters and other related items over the next three months. reverand jesse jackson says the residents of flint, michigan were let down by their officials. (rev. jesse jackson/civil rights activist) "the people are fed up and betrayed. they're assuming they could drink the water, bathe in the water, wash in the water and have clean air and and it seems to be a man-made disaster. if it is a man- made disaster, there are legal and political consequences to that." nikki: some protesters blasted jackson and film-maker michael moore for their roles in the protests..... saying they only appeared after the news cameras were on hand. nikki: here in iowa... we've been dealing with our own water issues.. last year...des moines water works filed a lawsuit against over the nitrate racoon and des moines rivers..

"this week in iowa" weekly political program this sunday. we'll talk trump/cruz and what's going on with the democrats' frontrunner flip-flop in iowa, plus a new goal to "get along" as a new iowa statehouse session starts. "this week in iowa" airs sunday at 9 a-m right here on local five. nikki/ots: a variety show and a singles' auction tonight in des moines raised money for a local charity. tonight, a date with 18 single men and women from across the metro were auctioned off to raise money for variety, a local children's charity. tickets were 20 dollars at the door. guests got to have a dinner and mingle ahead of the big auction. this year, the goal was to raise $10-dollars for the charity. organizers say it's a fun competition to be part of. doug vinsand, organizer: "we had a pushup contest on stage, we have a guy on stage tonight that has a rocky theme entrance planned. so, it's always entertaining. and the more entertaining it is

news in hd. home of weareiowa.com " nikki: moving indoors now.. nearly 500 athletes gathered today for the 20-16 crossfit circus.. the event was held at the state fairgrounds 4h building.. presented by crossfit 80-35.. it's iowa's largest team functional fitness competition.. hang cleans... power lifts.. and box jumps were all part of the event.. but building relationships and good sportsmanship are a big key too.. "when you come out here you compete but sportsmanship is untouchable we all cheer each other on the crowd is great the athletes help each other out everyone kind of comes together through the same sweaty workouts

jordan: on monday, i thought isu fans were panicking a little prematurely. then the cyclones lost at texas, moving them to 1-3 in big 12 play... 4 games into the season, i hate to say it, but today at k-state was a must win! iowa state looking to shore up its defensive effort they had to do it without hallice cooke who was suspended for violating team rules... isu down two but monte morris hits abdel nader on the back door cut-- and he flushes it. then it's georges niang with the pump fake and finishes with the finger roll. cyclones up 3. check out junior jordan ashton, giving isu some depth. he nails the three. then it's morris to jameel mckay for the slam! k-state closes the gap before halftime, but morris beats the buzzer to put isu up 9 at the break. 2nd half, check
