top five this morning.... elias: the storm may be gone, but a record amount of snow remains on top of the east coast. authorities are still cautioning against unnecessary driving, with airline schedules still in disarray. the snow keeping schools and government offices closed in baltimore and washington d-c. at least 28 weather-related deaths were reported from the storm. elias: in the number two spot this morning... elias: des moines police investigating the first homicide of 2016 for the city. sunday morening officers found the body of 71- year-old norma jean mcneeley at a home on pioneer road. at this time there are no suspects, but police do have leads in the suspicious death. more details are expected from investigators later today. elias: the third thing you need to know before you

elias: with exactly one week until the iowa caucuses, democratic and republican presidential candidates will be ramping up their appearances in iowa... tonight, c-n-n will hold a town hall for the three democrats will hold a town hall for the three democrats at drake university. then on thursday, republicans will take part in their seventh debate at the iowa events center... all hoping to gain more support before monday. elias: number four... elias: central iowans celebrated the big ragbrai news from the weekend... shenandoah, creston, and ottumwa have been selected as three of the eight overnight stops along this year's 420-mile ride. more than 100- thousand people are expected to take part in this year's ragbrai, which willtake off from grlenwood on july 24th. elias: and finally in the top five... elias: and some big news for the iowa hawkeyes...pella quarterback noah clayberg has committed to donning the black and gold. clayberg accepted a

team until january of 20-17. during the past two seasons, he led pella to a 28 and oh record, two state titles, and named the gatorade player of the year in iowa. elias: accusations of assaulting a special needs child resulted in a bus driver and an assistant being fired last november... now, an unemployment insurance appeals decision has made video of the incident available. local five's nikki davidson has a look at the events the school district says cost them their jobs. " "when a crying special needs student got on a des moines public school bus november 4th... bus assisant ruby taylor scolded him... (you are too big for all that) and threatned to have him kicked off the bus (get off my bus) once the student was seated it was taylors job to secure him in a wrap around seltbelt... the video shows taylor attempting to do that... but the student was able to get out of the

alone i'm not going to tell you again) which the school district says was taylor's fault in documents related to her unemployment insurance appeal they said she quote "did not secure the straps tightly enough" then the video shows her doing something else the school district says wasn't following their policies... quote "not watching the students, busy on her personal cell phone." several minutes into the bus ride the special needs student acts out... striking another student... (oh no thats what you're not going to do) and taylor physically uses her body to restrain the boy... pushing him into the bus seat to the point his cheek was "pushed against the glass" she keeps a hold of the student like this for seven minutes... when she releases him at his stop to a guardian... the boy attacks another student... then exits the bus. elias: des moines public schools conducted their own investigation...de termining police did not need to be involved. in a statement, they said

making less money. but theres one incentive proram that aims to get familys into the business. local 5's claire powell has more, in this weeks farm to family. it's only been three years. since the shinn's took over l-4 farms. live, laugh love and "its the only way to stay young is to learn, went with it. my wife said oh ok" the idea of farming had always been just that- an idea. until it became a reality. "yeah we got a farm, oh we have a farm" "not anticpate making a living, it was going to be a hobby farm the shinns are what you call the new kids on the block- surrounded by thousands of acres farmed by the same families for generations. but through finding this farm they realized something was getting lost. "how have we lost the connection of where does the food come from?" so the newly dubbed "farmers" started

"we will have that additional knowledge base to pull from especially in this lean year" they're hoping 2016 is their year. aiming to expand the newborn farm into something sustainable.
