the debate might be paying off a ttle. >> experts say that this debate was a front-runner's easiest win yet. without trump's presence there was no obvious standout candidate. and according to abc political consultant matthewowd -- >> i think the biggest winner of this politically was donald trump. i think if you pick somebody on stage, i think rand paul actually did the best. i ththought marco rubio won the first half of the debate but faded in the second half, but if you had to pick somebody that did well and seemed to do best without donald trump there, it was rand paul. >> and if you're looking for concrete numbers, an important poll will be released tomorrow from "the des moines register." dowd says if trump holds a lead in that poll, he'll likely win the iowa caucuses come monday. okay, and get this, last night trump still dominated the chatter on social media. >> during the debate he was the most talked about candidate on twitter and the most searched on google. on facebook these were the most talked about issues, immigration topped the list followed by isis and islam and muslims. and, folks, stay with abc news

debate. more analysis later on "good morning america." >> and we should note that the next republican debate will be right here on abc, saturday, february 6th in new hampshire moderated by "world ne tonight" anchor david muir and "this week" co-anchor martha raddatz. >> and in case you haven't had your fill of debates yet, the democrats add one more, hillary clinton and martin o'malley have agreed to another debate before the new hampshire primary on february 9th. that's a rersal for clinton who originally tried to keep them at a minimum. now she says she's waiting for sanders to agree. abc's jonathan karl asked sanders what's up. >> i wanted more debates from day one. >> reporter: i know. >> gee, a couple of months ago the clinton people weren't i wonder what has happened now that they want more debates? what do you think has changed? >> well, what's changeged is that clinton used to be the clear front-runner. now sanders is surging. debates can be risky for anyone in the lead. so, stay tuned to this one.

for providing material support to those three escapees om a southern california jail. nooshafarin ravaghi taught english as a second language at the jail. she's suspected of giving the inmates planning tools like google maps. authorities also released the photos of thisis van. escapees may be livi in. the four remaining militia wildlife refuge say they'll leave if no one is arrested. the group's leader, ammon bundy, has urged everyone to go home. the fbi, meanwhile, released this video which shows the group member lavoy finicum being shot by the stateolice. they say finicum was killed after twice reaching for a loaded weapon. the so-called affluenza teen ethan couch is in a texas juvenile detention center this morning. couch and his mother fled to mexico in december after a video surfaced appearing to show him at a party where people were drinking alcohol. that would be a probation violation for his 2013 drunk driving accident that left four people dead. now, later today, a judge

current one when you're infected. >> emergency w.h.o. committee will be convened on this national health emergency. circuit city coming back. once the biggest big box technology retailer, the company went bankrupt eight years ago and now the new circu cy plans to open as many as 100 stores by next year. the stores will sell small electronics with wider inventory online and market their own brand of inpensive computer accessories and cables just like shack. mcdonald's is testing the mcgriddle. it saw its biggest quarterly sales jump in years after it launched alt day breakfast in october. now rolling out the mcgriddle and biscuit all day long at 72 restaurants in tulsa, oklahoma, if they can figure out how to juggle the equipment to make it happen it could roll out nationwide.

safe. a massive sinkhole has forced the closure of a main highway in southern oregon. pictures you he to see. the slide started on t freeway, the 101, around noon after a storm dumped nearly an inch and a half of rain. the owner of a nearby diner cauring it all. take a listen. >> it really moved. >> well, the sinkhole has now undermined all four lanes of the heavily traveled 101. well, the doctor who inspired the movovie "concsion" says o.j. simpson may be suffering from a degenerative brain disease. dr. bennet omalu telling "people" magazine he strongly suspects simpson is suffering from cte. the disease can lead to a wide range of behavior problems and led to untimely deaths of many former players. in 2012 simpson actually considered arguing that he had a brain disorder when asking for a new trial on armed robbery and kidnapping charges in nevada.

of the psychedelic rock group jefferson airplane has passed away talking about songwriter, singer, guitarist paul kantner. he passed away in san francisco last night after suffering from organ failure and septic shock. kantner was behind such classics as "white rabbitnd "somebody to love" that you hear there. kantner was 74 years old. a mystery solved this morning after the greater new york area was rattled by what felt lika major earthquake. reports of the ground shakaking stretched from southern new jersey to connecticut and even long island. military officials now say it was a series of sonic booms that were caused by fighter jets conducting supersonic tests off the coast which broke the sound barrier. it was very scary for some people. >> yeah, it was. well, from the ground shaking on one coast to a mess-up by the ground crew for the super bowl. they're fixing a mistake this morning. >> they're preparing the levi stadium field in santa clara. and youan see
