credited to clinton. elias: number four... elias: ankeny leaders moving closer to building a new library and council chambers. the project will cost between 15 and 17 million dollars. the money will come from three funding sources -- capital reserves, civic trust funds and a bond that must be approved by voters. the current library will be renovated and house other city offices once the new facility is done. elias: and finally in the top five... elias: many hawkeye fans would probably like to forget about the rosebowl... but an iowa lawmaker isn't letting it go. senator mark chelgren has taken issue with stanford's halftime show, which made fun of iowa. now, he is pushing for a bill that would require the school to make a formal apology. it also stops any collaboration until the apology is made.

the statehouse...whe democrats are making a bold governor to privatize medicaid. elias: the governor's plan to change over iowa's medicaid has been met with criticism... even the federal the state was not ready on they moved the deadline of the march first. but democratic senators say it's whole to halt the plan.. "gronstal - 11:20 they november and signing people up left and rightr and they're point. we think it's timr eto pull the plug on this, go back to the old system, maybe someday come back to this issue." elias: house republicans say repealing the step in the direction... and further. the bill gets to it will likely be dead on arrival.

" --sot--chris martin how do you get this gig, do you campaign? how does it all come together, how did you get it? chris martin/singer, coldplay: we started in iowa 3 years ago, we had a bus, a small bus, and at that point not very many investors. we had barely enough money to afford one can of pepsi. pepsi stepped in they were very sweet, they gave us a bigger bus we got some stickers, coldplay for 2016 and we just got out there and we just worked our little butts off and low and behold, the voters of america said alright, you have a go."

5:18 am
elias: among this year's nobel peace prize nominees is -- donald trump. the republican presidential candidate has been nominated for the 2016 prize by a mystery patron. the nobel committee counts among its recipients martin luther king junior, the red cross and, in 2009, president obama. many nobel observers expect trump's nomination to fall by the wayside. they reminds us of others who were nominated but never won, like adolf hitler, benito mussolini, and vladimir putin. all:

"you're watching good morning iowa in hd. we are iowa." elias: 2015 was a roller coaster of emotions for the iowa state athletic department especially when it comes to basketball and football.
5:21 am
director jon schaeffer sat down with athletic director jamie pollard to talk about 2015 and what we can expect for this year. " the year didn't start the way jamie pollard expected-- he suffered a heart attack which is admittedly something he doesn't think about much these days. after watching isu men's hoops claim back to back big 12 championships it was on to the ncaa tournament where the hope was high-- but reality didn't live up to it. now the ncaa tournament didn't go as iowa state had hoped it would with a first round loss to uab what was your reaction to that? well it was disappointing for everybody because you were still living on the high of the big 12 championship and then we drew that first game the thursday game and you're early on thursday morning and um it was like it was over before it ever started and like a bad dream. but as you learn in athletics tomorrow comes whether you want it to or not and life had to go on and so we've put
5:22 am
on that spring as the mayor-- fred hoiberg moved on to the chicago bulls. one of the most beloved coaches in school history. head coach steve "he was the perfect person to follow fred. because he is extremely humble. most people would have run from fred's legacy because it would be stifling. and he's been able to embrace it. and work with it." then the attention turned to the football season. paul rhoads was under pressure to find success from the iowa state fan base. unfortunately-- the program didn't make the turn in the right direction. rhoads went 3-9 before being let go. "coach rhoads is a great football coach but that friendship piece makes it easier and harder. it's easier because we are so close that you were able to just work through it in a way that was good for everybody involved." "in less than two weeks pollard had already gotten the guy he wanted. toledo head coach matt campbell who fit the mentality of what it takes to coach at iowa state. "he wanted to be at a place where if we won
5:23 am
there were places he could have went where they would say when we win a championship this is what you do. that's not the kind of environment he wanted to be at he wanted to be at something where he could build it. that is kind of our mantra in our athletics department so he fit that." so expectations for 2016 couldn't be bigger from fans in both basketball and football. in 2016 is it too much for fans to expect a sweet 16 basketball team and a bowl bound football team? "absolutely not. that's what our coaches and our administration aspires to do i think we'd all be disappointed if we weren't in the you know got to that level in basketball with the team that we have this year. i do recognize it's hard but we are clearly one of the top 16 teams in the country and so i hope that happens. as far as a

"the fire itself is suspicious only because of the markings and the indicators that are there. we have people on the scene still processing it. we'll make a

5:29 am
voters. city leaders say it's the right time to make the move, since ankeny's population continues to grow so fast. david jones, ankeny city manager: "our library is about half the size of comparable communities' library, and it was time to address that and some of the critical needs in the city and this plan will do that." elias: ankeny city council has approved a plan that would start some reshuffling with city buildings. the current library will be renovated and house other city offices once the new facility is done. elias: many hawkeye fans would probably like to forget about the rosebowl... but an iowa lawmaker isn't letting it go. it wasn't the lopsided score of the ballgame with stanford that angers him - but the halftime show. maybe you saw part of it, the marching band that took the field basically making fun of iowa. there was a larger-than-life cow running
5:30 am
fun at farmers. a republican senator wants to pass a law requiring stanford to make a formal apology. " 40:51 what it says - future collarboaration between stanford and regents universities whould be put on hold until that apology's made publicly." elias: chelgren says he's a hawkeye fan, but he's not a sore loser - he says this bill is about the band and their halftime performance that was in poor taste. he says it's idependent of the football teams. chelgren says the bill is a way to patch up - what could be long term animosity between stanford and the state of iowa. other lawmakers don't antipate the bill getting very far at all. elias: we're back with meterologist sam schreier... sam: (sam adlibs) sam:

elias: of course the republican debate already drawing some criticism from a few of its participants.. due to the number of candidates, only one debate will be held saturday night... and under the criteria set by a-b-c to be included on the debate stage....presiden tial candidate carly fiorina has been cut from the roster... high profile republicans mitt romney and newt gingrich, along with candidates ted cruz and ben carson have called this a mistake, saying she should be included. elias: while clinton and sanders may be focusing on new hampshire... back in iowa, many questions still remain about the results from monday's democratic caucus.... some people say there precinct delegate was won by sanders, but somehow was credited to clinton and they aren't sure why. the confusion includes at least two democratic precincts in woodbury county in western iowa....and has some participants questioning the caucus process in iowa.
