around his neighborhood, the speed limit is 55. but a bill that's now in the iowa house could change that. tim hughes, elkhart resident: "we live in a residential area, where you hit a group of homes here and i think keeping the 55 is plenty fast enough." representative rob bacon introduced his proposal after a d-o-t study found the average driver went 62 down rural highways, rep. rob bacon, iowa state representative: "actually, i feel comfortable at 60 and most people i've talked to say let's just boost it up to 60 miles an hour and they feel very comfortable with that." other lawmakers agreed, quickly pushing the bill through subcommittee. adrienne st. clair, grimes resident: "55 mile per hour speed limit does seem fairly slow on the rural two lane highway, maybe going to 65 limits might be too fast." state patrollers have argued in the past, that greater speeds could mean more deadly crashes, especially in the country. but still, some feel a slight bump to 60 could work. nick nesbitt, grimes resident: "if it's proved to be a safe speed limit to move it up to and they think there's not going to be an increase in accidents
10:04 pm
bacon says driving technology has greatly improved since the current limits were set. rep. rob bacon, iowa state representative: "remember, though too, cars are a lot safer than they were when they were set at 55, the roads are wider, they're up to two feet wider per lane." and he says if drivers ramped up their speeds, law enforcement could choose how to enforce it. hughes says the law up their speeds, law enforcement could choose how to enforce it. also, there would be no reason for drivers to increase it by another five, just a few years down the road--so it would last for a while. live in the studio, jacob peklo, local five news. we are iowa. jack: there are several other states, including missouri that have 60 mile per hour speed limits on their two lane highways. we want to know what you think? is there a version of the bill you'd like to see? 60 or 65? or should it stay the way it is at just 55? jack: let us know -- we may use your comments on-air. you can post you thoughts on twitter and

his office said, "through managed care, iowans' health care delivery will improve by offering preventive services above and beyond what currently is available... and eliminating unnecessary or duplicative services." jack: if you had to drive in the snow this morning, you probably saw some crazy stuff out on the roads. though we got less than 2 inches, the slick spots were enough to cause a lot of traffic headaches. the morning work commute was slow, and lots of folks wound up getting involved in the crashes. drivers and the mechanics who fix up dinged cars were busy this morning. ""we're seeing it all front back side, i even saw a car with vandalism yesterday, just crazy times rightnow" " jack: west des moines auto body says they're booked auto body says they're booked with cars to fix until march. state patrol responded to more than 50 metro area wrecks today. there were some injuries, but state patrol
