her son was taken to another room for just a routine checkup. instead he was taken to surgery by mistake. abc's steve osunsami has the story. >> hi there, buddy! >> reporter: doctors call what happened to this newborn baby in tennessee a "never event," something that should never happen. but this past december, after jennifer melton gave birth to her healthy son, she says the staff at university medical center in lebanon, tennessee, took baby nate away for what was supposed to be a physical. >> at that point, the nurse started to mention the procedure that had been performed on him. >> reporter: when they brorought the baby back, the parents say they learned there was a terrible mistake. a doctor had performed a surgical procedure meant for a different child. >> at that point, i began to cry hysterically. essentially, they took our child, who was 100% healthy, and just took him out of the nursery and cut his mouth. >> reporter: the family gave us these medical records that show it was a frenulectomy, where they cut underneath the tongue so it moves better for children

batteries and the potential to spark fires. abc's david kerley covers aviation for us. >> reporter: this is the faa's own test of what can happen if a shipment of lithium ion batteries spontaneously ignites. these batteries can lead to "catastrophic aircraft loss," the faa is warning, and current t fire supession systems "cannot effectively control a lithium battery fire." they power our computers and tablets. and can heat and ignite. think about the house fires and the hoverboard fires suspected of being started by batteries that we've seen rently. what if it happens in a cargo hold? and it apparently has. two 747s have crashed. the packages of batteries they carried suspected of contributing. that's why the national transportation safety board is also out with a recommendation, that if batteries are carried, they are separate from other flammable materials, and the number of batteries be restricted. airline lots want even more -- that the batteries be listed as hazardous.

9 the second die dd outside a senior citizen center. the suspect was then killed, and they were killed because they were wearing a uniform. the justice department is suing ferguson, missouri, the move came a day after the city tried to amend an agreement to overhaul its police department. ferguson came under scrutiny when the fatal policice shooti of michael brown spaparked widespread unrest. the city is accused of a pattern of misconduct that includes routinely viviolating e rights of residents. attorney general loretta lynch accused ferguson of racial bias calling the practices egregious. in the meantime, in cleveland, the city there has sent a bill to the family of tamir rice. he's the 12-year-old shot dead by a police officer. the city wants the family to pay for the boy's ambulance ride and medical services that he received. neither the officer or his partner offered first aid to the dying boy. an attorney for the family said and i'm quoting here, this adds insult to homicide. the rice family considers this a form of harassment. some extreme weather on both ends of the country will start in the beach area in southern california where summerlike heat will continue today with many people coming down for a dip.
