sabrina: in the number two spot this morning... sabrina: the u-s justice department has filed a lawsuit claiming the city of ferguson, missouri continues to violate the rights of african americans --- even after the shooting death of michael brown. the filing comes after ferguson leaders voted to change the terms of a deal with the d-o-j over reforms to its police force and municipal court system. elias: the third thing you need to know before you walk out the door... elias: hopefuls throw following poor the new hampshire caucus, chris carly fiorina announced they their campaigns. neither has polled outside of single digits since joined the race for the white house. the g-o-p field is now down to six major candidates. sabrina: number four... sabrina: the hardwood for iowa state...

road to texas last night for a game against unranked texas tech. despite staying ahead of the red raiders for much of the game....,the home team forces i-s-u into overtime....where a hail mary three pointer puts them up by three and gives texas tech the win. elias: and finally in the top five... elias: the literary franchise that got a whole generation and more reading will return to the book shelves. an eighth installment of the harry potter series called "harry potter and the cursed child." will go on sale this summers. it's not a traditional book, buta hardback version of the script book for the two-part play, sabrina: back in des moines, police release more details about wednesday's officer-involved shooting. sabrina: senior police officer christopher brockert fired his gun following an early morning

he fired at 25 year old austin allen, who had felony warrants out of west des moines and kansas for driving a stolen vehicle. cops tried to pull over allen near southwest 14th and porter, but he wouldn't stop....even driving the car toward officer brockert.. that's when he fired the shots. allen faces several charges, including assault with a weapon on police. elias: new this morning...iowa's law enforcement and prosecutors have committed to fighting the heroin epidemic in the state.. elias: last night more than 150 people came together in cedar rapids to discuss the heroin problem.. speakers focused on how they're working to solve the problem through prevention, treatment and law enforcement. cedar rapids police say last year the city had about 250 cases involving heroin when you consider police and hospital data. authorities say a lot of the heroin is coming from illinois, meaning eastern iowa is at the heart of the problem. been touring central iowa this week sharing her story with students... marion blumenthal spoke with goodrell middle school, students about what it was like to live in a concentration campand eventually immigrate to the united states after her family was set free. she also left the kids with advice to practice acceptance. "as difficult as it is the horror of the holocaust must be taught must be studied and kept alive only then can we guard it from ever happening again " sabrina: blumenthal is one of the last living holocaust survivors in iowa. she is also the author of an award-winning memoir titled "four perfect memoir titled "four perfect pebbles." elias: and a cultural immersion night at drake university. students who recently visited the african country of uganda invited natives of that country to share their culture with iowans

elias: it's easy to accumulate medications... that pain reliever from when you had your root canal, or the cough syrup from your cold last winter... sabrina: but what should you hold onto and what should you pitch? kelly bowman has some tips to help you clear out the clutter, and how to store your medications properly... elias: meet charlie the red kangaroo. for about a year, charlie has served as a therapy animal at a veterans home in salt lake city.. he has also taken trips to special education classes and hospice care facilities. charlie is still young, but when he gets full- grown he likely won't be able to stay at the veterans home... the utah red cross will honor charlie next month for his service. all: (reax) sabrina: last night some exceptional teens were honored by the

"you're watching good morning iowa in hd. we are iowa." sabrina on your money now sabrina mounting problems for twitter....as the social media giant says it lost two million users in the last three months of 20-15. that news caused twitter stock to drop 12-percent wednesday. twitter has been struggling to win over new users for some time... launching new products to try to address the issue. sabrina: youtube plans to take on streaming services -- such as netflix and hulu. the online video site released three made-for- youtube movies yesterday....and is also launching a new series. it's clearly a response to similar moves by competitors. the original content is a part of youtube's "red" subscription service.
