warmer weather with highs climbing back into the 40s and possibly a brief 50! elias: let's get into the top five this morning.... elias: those speed limits on iowa's two-lane country highways are now under review... state lawmakers have two proposals before them that would move the speed limit from 55 miles an hour up to 60 or 65. a study done by the iowa d-o-t found that the average driver goes 62. some are in favor of the changes, but aren't sure if it would work everywhere. sabrina: in the number two spot this morning... morning... sabrina: the u-s justice department has filed a lawsuit claiming the city of ferguson, missouri continues to violate the rights of african americans --- even after the shooting death of michael brown. the filing comes after ferguson leaders voted to change the terms of a deal with the d-o-j over reforms to its police force

the literary franchise that got a whole generation and more reading will return to the book shelves. an eighth installment of the harry potter series called "harry potter and the cursed child." will go on sale this summers. it's not a traditional book, buta hardback version of the script book for the two-part play, sabrina: back in des moines, police release more details about wednesday's officer-involved shooting. sabrina: senior police officer christopher brockert fired his gun following an early morning chase... he fired at 25 year old austin allen, who had felony warrants out of west des moines and kansas for driving a stolen vehicle. cops tried to pull over allen near southwest 14th and porter, but he wouldn't stop....even driving the car toward officer brockert.. that's when he fired the shots. allen faces several charges, including assault with a weapon on police. elias: new this morning...iowa's law enforcement and prosecutors have committed to fighting the heroin epidemic in the state.. elias:

came together in cedar rapids to discuss the heroin problem.. speakers focused on how they're working to solve the problem through prevention, treatment and law enforcement. cedar rapids police say last year the city had about 250 cases involving heroin when you consider police and hospital data. authorities say a lot of the heroin is coming from illinois, meaning eastern iowa is at the heart of the problem. " dale woolery governor's offc. of drug control policy " elias: town hall organizers also worked to create awareness about what can lead to heroin use. police say prescription pain killer abuse is the gateway to heroin addiction.

elias: meet charlie the red kangaroo. for about a year, charlie has served as a therapy animal at a veterans home in salt lake city.. he has also taken trips to special education classes and hospice care facilities. charlie is still young, but when he gets full- grown he likely won't be able to stay at the veterans home... the utah red cross will honor charlie next month for his service. all: (reax)
