local 5 news, i'm jack miller. stephanie/2shot: and i'm stephanie angleson. stephanie/2shot: after months of fighting for a spot in the dow- dupont merger, today we learned johnston lost it's bid as a headquarter location. jack/2shot: instead the company has chosen wilmington, delaware on the east coast. but johnston isnt losing out completely. local 5's claire powell is here with details. claire/bam: there have been mixed reviews since this morning's announcement. instead of a headquarters for merging ag giants dow- dupont, johnston will now become a "global business center" for the company. dupont pioneer president paul schickler said "this choice will be an innovative choice for farmers and he's proud of what pioneer has accomplished." after the announcement, the iowa economic development authority awarded 16 million dollars in incentives. two million of that is forgivable loans to retain 500 research and development jobs. the city of johnston also approved a one million dollar matched incentive - in total giving 17 million to the

in hopes to reduce the amount of layoffs potentially coming with the merger. " " see some more loss of jobs in short term. but over long term we believe they'll do research activities here in johnston, employment numbers will go back up again, possibly higher than what we have currently" " claire/bam: dupont pioneer currently has 26-hundred employees. and the merger between dow and dupont pioneer is expected to be finalized in the second half of this year. reporting live claire powell local 5 news we are iowa. stephanie: thanks, claire. and with this big change coming to johnston. here are some numbers that show how the local community will be affected by the move. the city council reported visitors to the dupont pioneer headquarters in 20-13 spent nearly 3 million dollars, staying at hotels and eating at local restaurants. dupont pioneer makes up almost 40 percent of taxabale commerical value in johnston and 9 percent of all taxable value for the city.
