supreme court, could determine juris prudence of this country for the next 30 years, and therefore determine who do you want to be in the senate to decide who will be the next supreme court justice? it suddenly makes this one of the most historic elections of our lifetime. >> an actual historic election. >> a moment when basically the congress and the white house and the court could all change one night in november. it's a dramatic -- really, lets all of us sort of star struck for a moment. >> wow. folks, we have a huge episode tonight. we have ben carson's campaign manager, representative kristi noem.
9:31 am
and attend the undy run which red -- raise is money. >> welcome back. you have come a long way from california. what brings you to iowa? >> i'm here to get out the metage the kids need to vote and caucus on february 1st, 6:30 p.m., and try to get young people to vote. >> we're at the mock caucus at drake university. i see you're wearing a bernie sander. >> whatever you're going to vote for, just exercise your democratic privilege and do it. could be anybody. >> could be anybody. that's a very multicandidate message. you're wearing a sticker. so, is this your first time participating in the iowa caucus process. >> the caucus itself, yes, my third time in iowa. in 2080-2012, when i was college
9:32 am
ralph nader and never forgave myself. i found in the future to do something about that and try to right that personal wrong of mine. so, i'm trying to encourage people to get out there and exercise their rights. >> so you voted for nader. that a vote with the heart. why are you against that vote now? >> well, i'm not necessarily against it. what is exciting now i feel like i now have a guy with -- similar ideology, in termed of the environment and certainly socioeconomic policies but it's a much better -- much more viable -- a much better position to be a great president. >> you are at the front lines at the mock caucus and have actually been making calls at sanders headquarters. how is your candidate going to do. >> very positive.
9:33 am
especially first-time caucussers. caucusees. and is close to being dirty. caucussers. and so it's hard to tell, but as far as the excitement that is brewing on the college campuses, it seems palpable in his favor. >> i've seen photos of your making calls. have thewishans reached a point they don't want to talk to people anymore? >> my parents, my dad hated getting calls, even from a democratic surrogate, they hated seeing calls anywhere near dinnertime. so i'm wary -- i tiptoe around a lot of the calls. i go in very gingerly. i think sometimes too much so. so i say -- i kind of plant the seed i am bugging them.
9:34 am
>> hi, i'm -- this is justin, call from the bernie sander campaign issue is this a bad time? >> this great time. just finished dinner. >> at 5:30. >> the kids are already asleep. >> i hoch this didn't wake them up. probably did and i'm sorry, click, i'm the worse. i'm the worse. >> that's you. okay. haven't been making much headway on the phone bank department but home have been responding and people are undecided or you get a republican but even -- everyone i've called has been really, unlike my parents would have been, they've been very genial. >> are you going to be here through monday night? >> i have to leave tomorrow night but i'm hoping i have time to meet senator sanders tomorrow. >> justin long is here in iowa, campaigning for senator sanders, thank you for chatting. [cheering] >> welcome to a special episode
9:35 am
this is chad with the undy run can what's going on. >> having a lot of fun. >> this is not the only event. there's a bunch going on. >> there's a ton. 36 -- >> get that out of there. >> that's what you're going to see here. >> why the event today? what the cause? >> the cause is to support neurofibromatosis research. we do at lot of good. we're look are between four and five him in. >> who came up with the idea. >> three founders wanted to do something to support their -- one of their brothers that has it. he unfortunately passed away this august from complications with the disease, and we are just really out here to support and make sure no one else has to
9:36 am
come check us us. >> what compelled you to participate in the undy run. >> raising money for a fantastic cause. >> he's pretty happy with himself. >> things like that. it's my third year. >> why this is an important cause for you? >> cancer is so the worst and this is the least we can do. >> is this the coldest year it's been in. >> last year was colder. >> last year was colder? >> last year was 7 with wind chill. >> what do you do in town. >> i'm a teacher. >> why is this -- >> a nine-year-old, lives in rocksville, the cutest little boy and is really important to me. >> we'll chat with folks live
9:37 am
carson, carli fiorina. so much more in another exciting episode of "roske on politics." >> we will become a rich and great nation again. thank you. great honor. >> we have the top one tenth of one percent owning more wealth. >> what did iranian mullahs do, keep negotiating. >> the thing have been concerned about in this nation for the last few years has not changed. >> we're chatting with chief national correspondent for "the new york times" magazine mark leibovich. >> congress woman. >> state senator. >> senator tom harkin. >> sometimes you don't have to win if you come in a good second or third and no one expected it. that gives you a boost.
9:38 am
several times. >> the d.c. shadow senator, paul strauss. >> any candidate seeking to earn the awesome and sacred trust of the presidency of the united states has to come and engage with the people of iowa. >> the governor mike huckabee. >> senator joe lieberman. >> senator chuck grassley. >> haven't eaten anything other than fried snickers. can't describe it. it's like going to heaven. >> this is a dumb way to do it. at the end of the day, brad pitt will be in our debate. >> i think it's important because it's the first contest. >> a potential clinton-castro ticket. >> whoever the nominee is gets
9:39 am
is going to be. >> welcome back.
9:40 am
three children, jeb bush, jr., how is you dad doing. >> he's doing well. a great ground game. second to none. we'll fine out on monday. so, dad has been working incredibly hard and focusing on having a positive message. can been given slack to the guy with the crazy hair that's running but it feels good out there. >> i would agree with that. governor bush's campaign has been very positive. what are your or the campaign's thoughts on donald trump sitting out the debate tomorrow night? >> we'll see. i still don't know -- i don't necessarily believe he is going to sit out. i think dad has a $20 bet with the campaigners to see if he actually really shows up or not. but dad has been going after him for a while, calling him out for what he is or isn't. he isn't a conservative. laying out a real detailed plan on the future and how to turn the country around. so, we'll see. >> we're at the -- this is drake university. this is actually a mock caucus
9:41 am
and you are of this demo. how is the governor bush campaign been reaching out to young people? >> we are on over 450 campuses around the country, folks in university outreach. we're on top. bernie might have more campus presence than us but something that dads cares about a lot. millenials are the largest percentage of voters, so if you got them out in september you have a ground game to get young people engaged. >> iowa, i believe, your dad is fifth. in new hampshire he is climbing. but about the next couple weeks. >> it's interesting and really incredible. the majority of folks here, for 30, 40, 50, 60% of votes make up their minds in the last two or three days, sometimes the week before. so there's still a lot of undecideds out there. iowa feels good.
9:42 am
good. so the good news is we'll fine out then. >> how was it growing up a bush? when you realize your grandfather was president, your uncle was president. hough is? >> pretty wild. i don't know anything else. but very blessed and very proud of the public service my grandfather has done and uncle, and my aunt laura and my mom, have spent a lot of time trying to help other people and believe in public service. so, yeah. honored. >> a few years ago your father was here, campaigning for his father, and another 10-15 years are you going to be here on your own campaigning. >> i have to get back to my day job. getting back to my family, and just working hard and hopefully get dad in office, and that's it. >> governor jeb bush's youngest son, jeb bush, jr. >> so, i'm going to talk about my history with voting, and so
9:43 am
when i say vote, you say commit to caucus, show up. i actually thought it would be fun. a lot of events you can attend as a diligent public service but caucusing is a cool, sexy way to meet people. one of my first questions do people ever sleep together after a caucus? people give each other cash to convince then to join their corner at the caucus. the first, maybe the second illegal. but i'm hoping that -- i'm so bad that -- glad i have the opportunity to be part of a caucus myself and hope you have the experience. report to me online. let me know if any romantic connections are made. and i tell you about my history
9:44 am
citizen, which is that -- it took me far too long to start voting. i have been of legal age for more than four years before i cast my first vote in the 2008 presidential election. not that it didn't care. it's that i didn't believe my caring mattered. it was impossible to comprehend that one young woman standing in a long line to check a box made a difference. how is it when you came -- incomprehensible system? so many of us felt this way in the past. our country is just too big to set in a real difference and there's something maybe -- >> well, i'm here to tell you -- trying to disaabuse you of this motion. it's something i wish i had done sooner and am thrilled to do now.
9:45 am
when i worked for president obama's campaign for re-election. they encouraged young women to vote using a sexual innuendo or two because i cannot help it. my first instinct was just to say no. after all i was -- i was 22 before i cast my first vote. i hardly read the newspaper and i didn't feel like a role model but i talked to a friend, who is with me today, i dragged her here. and she said to me, actually, this is the way you use an audience should you be lucky enough to have them listening to your voice. it's important to report that politics aren't just for people who never made a mistake, never messed an episode of press press -- "meet the press." >> we're incredibly lucky to be

process. >> welcome back. the state of california has 53 members of the house, here in iowa we have four. south dakota has one and we're looking at him, christi noem. welcome to des moines. >> thank you. thank you for the warm weather. >> behind us out the window almost looks like pittsburgh, a chilly day. what brings you to our state. >> campaigning for marco rubio. i have been a big supporter of his and truly believe he is the best man to lead this country, and we're in a tough election season. the caucuses-coming up. i'm hoping everyone will get engaged and have some conversations with the folks here about what is the best direction for our country. >> quite a few candidates running on the g.o.p. side. what become marco rubio's campaign struck you. >> we truly need somebodies who
9:49 am
wants to put in action what he believeses he is extremely conservative and has a big plan for feel dealing with the challenges our country faces. the issues in iowa are like my state of south dakota. agriculture is important. trade agreements, ethanol is a big part of the future. these are all things that marco and i agree on and support and as well as national security issues and providing the kind of fiscal responsibility that we need in our budgeting process. so i'm always looking for the best conservative that can win a general election and lead this country, and marco can get the job done. >> speaking of challenges you have a new speaker in the house of representatives. what are your thoughts on the speaker. >> i'm very. i pressed with the leadership. it's a challenging time in the u.s. houston of representatives. even the republicans aren't on the same page and paul brought everybody to the table help has
9:50 am
that is what happened under boehner. he consolidate the power and control in his office, and paul says, listen you got a problem with a bill or amendment, talk to the member who has it. i'm not going fix stuff for you. you came here to work if i have a great idea, it's my job to go out to other members of the house and make sure i get the votes to get it passed itch love that. one thing that frustrated me the most in d.c. is how broken it is. i had a tough time getting a position on a committee or getting my bills heard because it was all controlled by chairman and leadership. now we can do our work and bills can pass on their merits and i

responsibility back to us. welcome back. here with general bob dees. you're the chairman of the carson campaign. >> i was hi national security adviser in march and got to know him. he met and saw we were like-mind
9:53 am
spent days together working non security issues and i can say that the narrative he doesn't know anything about that is totally false. >> okay. >> i've spend 30 years in the military. i think he has the right reflexes to be our commander in chief. figure out who has more 2:00 a.m. calls than dr. ben carson or dealing with life and death scenarios. he is steady in a crisis you. get all those things, he knows how to integrate the subject matter expertise, best minds across america to solve problems. sender served in the military. >> 31 years in ethyl mary, part of that was commander of the u.s.-israeli joint task force for missile defense, and another commanding forces in korea and then also a lot of fun was being the assistant planner of the
9:54 am
>> in israel, what do youd a vie him? >> israel is our stalwart ally in the middle east so always support israel. strong military relationships and want to inspire new confidence in the israeli people and at the israeli leadership. our current president has sounded an uncertain trumpet and has stiff-armed israel in many ways. and also, the iran nuclear deal that president obama and secretary kerry and others worked is -- has our allies and distrust us and bahrain and ohman and qatar and the uae and saudi arabia, kuwait, jordan, egypt, they're wondering if america has their back and it's bat question in light of america's recent actions, and also the iran nuclear deal stimulated a response that maybe

it's sometimes humannous, witty, clever, but there's nothing compared to 15 minutes, 30 minutes with dr. carson and hearing him dive deeply into various issues our nation faces and also listening to his heart. it's heart for the american people. and so if you look at the -- across all the candidates, is volume important or values? is -- >> volume or values. excellent. >> well, rhetoric or results. or wild proclamations or common
