hunt. looking for answers after a deadly rampage leaves six dead. the suspect, jason dalton, now behind bars. the chaos beginning at 5:42 p.m. saturday evening. a woman shot several times in the parking lot of this residential but she survivives. four hours later, in this car dealership parking lot, a father and his son shot and killed. within minutes, the gunman opens fire outside a cracker barrel l restaurant. killing four in their car. including a former teacher, and wounding a 14-yearld girl. >> dispatch all units. suspect vecle in a shooting. last seen at cracker barrel. >> reporter: just after midnight, police spot the suspect's vehicle and take him into custody without incident. the victims, police say, apparent selected at random. >> this is your worst nightmare. how do you go and tell the families of these victims that they weren't targeted for any reason other than they were

>> reporter: 45-year-old dalton had no criminal recocord, and worked as an uber driver. his neighbors, in disbelief. >> it's scary. that could have been us, my daughter that got killed. >> reporter: authorities investigating whether the alleged gunman was taking fares in between shootings. matt mellon claims he was dalton's passenger just 70 minutes before the first shooting. he says he called 911 and feared for his life. because dalton was driving erratically. his fiance even warning others shooting. >> we were driving through medians, driving through the lawn. speeding along andnd finally once he came to a stop, i jumped out of the car and ran away. >> reporter: uber in a statement saying we're horrified and heart broken at the sense senseless violence. we've reached out to the police to help in any way that we can. investigators recovered a gun from dalton's vehicle. he is expected in court tomorrow

rescue by the coast guard caught on camera in washington state. the helicopter arrived just in time to save three people in the water. two surfers and someone who had tried to help them. the heavy waves knocked around the coast guard crew. no one, not the man and the two women nor the crew were injured. one person is dead and more than a dozen others injured after two avalanches this weekend. this is in british columbia. the fatality was a snowmobiler. another man is in critical condition after sunday's avalanche. both accidents happened near golden, british columbia. that's in the west of the province. about 150 miles west of calgary. the avalanche canada service has warned of unstable conditions over there. it's not just the snow tha can be a danger while you're slushing down on the slopes. get up to the top as it risks that you take. >> there are many. and we had those twos recent chair lift accidents that are raising red flags with many skiers everywhere.
